On Monday morning, I was on my way to school when suddenly as I saw a boy knocked down by the car. In a hurry, I ran over and found the boy was serious hurt with much blood on his face. Immediately, I call an ambulance and the boy was taking to the nearest hospital. To my relief, the boy was fine and would recover in a few day. I went away without giving his name. I was late for class, and I felt happy for what I had done. As a proverb says, “Help others is the source of happiness.” I feel it our duty make the world a better place to live in.

6 . There is a famous story about how Walt Disney was inspired to build Disneyland. The story goes that during an afternoon visit to Griffith Park located near the Burbank Studios, Walt took a seat while his two young daughters rode the merry-go-round. Walt thought there should be a place where both children and their parents could enjoy spending some time together in an environment that would be both entertaining and pleasing to the eye, so with this thought came the idea for Disneyland.

Walt's original plan was to build an eight-acre park located near the Burbank Studios that would be a place for his employees and their families. Those plans were put on hold because of the start of World War II. By 1952, Walt had created a special department that was devoted to planning his dream.

Finally in 1953, the first steps in building the park happened when Walt employed the Stanford Research Institute to make a survey to determine the best possible location for the future park. Considering population growth and the future freeway construction(建设),they finally found a location in Anaheim and 160 acres of land were bought for the site of the new park.

The building of the park was very expensive and to collect money for the project, Walt developed the idea of the ''Walt Disney's Disneyland'' television show. It turned out to be a marvelous idea—not only gaining the money to build the park but also presenting the park to the American public.

Construction officially began on July 21,1954, and it was an ambitious(野心勃勃的)building schedule of less than one year to complete the new park for the projected opening day. Walt watched over the park's construction and progress continued with just a few minor hold-ups. Finally，the park was ready for the Opening Day on July17,1955.

When the summer heat hits countries like China and Japan, woman often carry umbrellas to protect themselves of the strong sunlight. However, a few men are seen doing such in these countries. At most, they might wear a hat－carry an umbrella would be considered silly and even inappropriate for a man.

However, this belief had been changing in recent years. In several parts of Japan, including Tokyo, men are being encouraged use umbrellas to protect them. People are starting to believe that Japanese men do and still be manly.

8 . Next time you’re in a public place, take a look around you, and count how many people are using their phones. I can tell you now that it is probably more than half, whether you’re on public transport, in a cafe or simply walking down the street.

I’m not saying that I am not an example of this, but it always amazes me how people can spend so much time on their phones without actually talking to anyone in particular.

For example, I recently visited London and travelled on the tube while I was there. Apart from the people asleep, almost everybody else was on their phones, and because of the nature of the tube, it is difficult not to see exactly what they are all doing. Of course, being underground it is difficult for you to get any signal, which rules out texting or using the Internet, but there is still plenty you can use your phones for. People were playing games, reading articles and listening to music, and I am sure that as soon as they emerged from the train station they would start texting or calling or checking their emails.

Recently, my smartphone broke and had to be sent off to the warehouse for repair for a week or so. In the meantime I had to use a really old, basic phone just to keep me in touch with my family and friends. All I could do on this phone was send text messages, make calls and play one game. And I loved it. I loved being free from the Internet, and I really didn’t mind not having constant updates about what my friends were doing or what the latest celebrity story was. It allowed me to spend more lime taking in my surroundings.

However, I knew that as soon as I got my smartphone hack I would be one of those people once again. Perhaps I should just go back to using the basic phone and forget my smartphone.

9 . Dear Sir,

I’m writing to request a valuable chance to be one of the host family for the British students. Locating in a beautiful and quite neighborhood, our large and fully-equipped apartment meets all their needs. Apart from the convenient public transportation, our own car can also take him to some nearby places of interest. With fluently English and an outgoing personality, I’m sure I will have no difficulty communicate with them. Above all, we were hosted two British students last year, through that we’ve gained lots of experience. In addition, my mother’s expert cooking can guarantee them the wonderful chance of tasting delicious Chinese food.

10 . Birth order plays a vital role in deciding the characteristics of a child. And when it comes to the middle child, it certainly plays a huge role. The middle children go through some things only they can understand.     1    

Mostly, middle children have to share a room.     2     They need to share a room with an elder one because they're too young to sleep alone. And just when they think they'll finally have a room of their own, a voice is heard saying, “Dear, please share the room with your younger one, as he's too small to sleep alone.”

Middle children tend to share clothes with their siblings (兄弟姐妹). Their cupboard is full of hand­me­downs from their older sibling, and they need to wear his clothes.     3     They can always show off their elder sibling's clothes and things at school. Also, they get to pass their own clothes to their younger sibling.

    4     They're liked by both, because they can relate well to both generations. On one hand they can recall how much fun it was watching Garfield and Friends, and on the other hand they can talk about the latest video game released in the market.

Siblings' talking is one interesting thing about a middle child. They are not as boring as they appear.    5     Also, thanks to the divided attention at home, middle children are independent and need not rely on anyone.
