文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了父母如何处理孩子的问题。

1 . Kids always have many doubts like: why do people have to die? Are mistakes always bad? Can you be happy and sad at the same time? Children often say that they lie awake at night thinking about things like why the world has the colors as it does, the nature of time and whether dream are real. These are not the kinds of questions that can be answered by googling them or asking Siri.

When children raise these questions, adults tend to respond with explanations that try to resolve the issue, at least temporarily. It’s natural to attempt to comfort a kid who is feeling puzzled by the world. But simple explanations may not be what the child wants. Sometimes, kids simply want to talk about their questions and thoughts.

Most kids start wondering about big questions almost as soon as they learn to speak, and they continue to think about them throughout childhood. Being full of curiosity about things that most adults take for granted, children all over the world are wide open to the mysteries in human life. But as they get older, kids ask questions less and less.

While children do need adult help and guidance, parents don’t always have to be in position of the experts providing the answers. Thinking with children about their bigger questions can make way for a more mutual kind of interactions. Because these kinds of questions tend not to have settled and final answers, discussions about them allow parents and children to wonder together. In this way, adults feel less pressure to be the experts.

Most of children have few long-held assumptions about bigger questions. Kids often suggest original and creative ways of looking at them. Talking with kids about what they are thinking without always feeling compelled to offer answers can help them explore their own concerns and ideas.

1. How will adults probably react when kids ask questions according to the text?
A.Attempt to raise their curiosity.B.Help surf the Internet for answers.
C.Give them simple explanations.D.Praise their courage and bravery.
2. What can we learn about kids’ asking questions from paragraph 3?
A.It needs adults’ guidance.
B.It starts from a very young age.
C.It helps improve their academic performance.
D.It makes a difference to their speech.
3. Which can best replace the underlined word “compelled” in the last paragraph?
A.Respected.B.Forced.C.Inspired.D.Convinced.
4. What does the text mainly discuss?
A.Why children ask big questions.B.When parents join in kids’ questions.
C.How parents handle kids’ questions.D.What kinds of questions children raise.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了如今人们手机成瘾,我们与手机的关系变得如此亲密,以至于我们的关系从功能性变成了寄生性。对此作者提出了一些戒掉手机瘾的方法。

3 . What object has the mystical ability to provide you with access to a whole new world, where you can read books, send messages or go online chatting, post pictures on social media platforms or watch TV Dramas anytime? What can entertain you day and night? Yes, you know the answer-your handphone.

Clearly, the handphone satisfies all our wants and needs, leaving us craving more. And over time as our days with this amazing pearl from technology melt into months and years, we become so intimate with our phones that the nature of our relationship morphs from one of functional to that of parasitic. According to a survey report by ConnectedLife, Singaporean youths spend an average of 3.4 hours a day on their phones. This may not seem like a big number to you, but think: what could you do in three hours? Cycling at the park with your family; revising your work; helping a friend with his work. Time wasted is life wasted.

Our phones now take on the antagonist’s role. When we try to engage in other activities, they blink their neon flashing lights non-stop, tempting us to give them one more click. We then watch our grades at school sink, our social skills plummet, our concern for others around us drop, sliced away from the real world, sliding into the digital one. Is the sacrifice worth it? No, phone addiction must come to a full stop today. How?

One way to stop addiction is to install applications to monitor the time you spend on your phone daily. You will find many mobile applications that help track the exact length of time you spend on your phone, notifying you if you exceed your targeted timing. A wake-up call, these alert you to become more self-aware of how long the daily phone usage is, and if you have already exceeded the limit. Each day you can start afresh with a new target, with a new sense of what you need to do (and what you do not).

Another method is to keep your phone switched off and to place it out of sight. Just as the common saying goes, “Out of sight, out of mind,” when you do not see that black screen, you will be less inclined to twitch and itch and check what is on the screen. Why shut it down? Well, when your phone is switched off, you would be unable to check it for updates so frequently, and hence less likely to keep pressing the ‘on’ button to read the message your friend just sent you, or the update on who just liked your post on social media. When switched off and kept away, the chances of you succeeding in what you need to focus on are higher. Although there may be a yearning for your phone, keep in mind the many different tasks you need to do instead and work on them. Procrastinate only on using your handphone; when you feel like turning it on and pulling down the notifications bar, smack your hand and tell yourself firmly, “Later!” These seeds of discipline, if grown into habits, will mature into a tree bearing much fruit.

There is one takeaway from the above two methods that effectively cuts the Gordian knot-busy yourself with other activities and push the complaints of the loss of bonding time with Mr. Smartphone out of your mind. After all, these joys are only short-term, and will be your regret in the long run. Now is the time to live your life like a human being. Be alive in this world, full of hopes and dreams, beauty and wonders. Taste the sweetness and bitterness of being human, and watch yourself grow into that tree. Cherish your youth while you can. You do not want to regret.

Oscar Wilde once said, “To live, is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist, that’s all.”

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。越来越多的中国年轻夫妇放弃了大型的正式婚礼,而选择在非传统的地点和咖啡店举行小型的、亲密的婚礼。文章主要介绍了传统婚礼和新式婚礼的不同。

5 . Young Chinese couples are increasingly abandoning large formal wedding ceremonies for smaller, intimate ones at unconventional locations and coffee shops, wedding planners said.

When Sun Hongxu started a wedding service business in Beijing in 2012, she found most weddings were celebrated in a “typically Chinese way” at venues such as hotels and restaurants, with a large number of guests, often 200 or more. There were friends and relatives of the young couple, or their parents, sitting at 20 or more tables, waiting the bride, groom and their parents enter the venue. Then the couple exchanged vows and rings.

The newly weddings would give out presents and even cash to show their appreciation for the attendance of their guests. Despite some couples not wanting such traditional nuptials, they felt obliged to meet the wishes of their parents who thought this was what a wedding should be like.

However, a reporter released in July by wedding service website Hunliji and science and technology media platform 36Kr shows that the generation born after 1990 is against formal weddings with too many complex procedures. Instead, they are paying more attention to having a happy and joyful small wedding that reflects the personalities of the bride and groom. They may only choose to have a meal with their family members, or have a trip with his or her lover in a romantic site. In their eyes, it is more meaningful , economical and unforgettable.

According to a survey, the average cost of a wedding in 2020 was 231,000 yuan, 3.7 times higher than five years ago, the reporter said.

However, it added that the majority of young couples take cost into consideration and spend reasonably on their weddings. XuLin, a wedding planner in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, said compared with those born in the 1980s, who took into consideration their parents’ wishes for grand traditional indoor weddings, couples today prioritize their own wedding preferences.

1. In the second paragraph, the underlined word “vows” means __________.
A.special giftsB.a name for a kind of flower
C.private wordsD.promise in a formal occasion
2. Mary was born in 1995, she hopes her wedding is __________.
A.grandB.complex
C.formalD.simple
3. According to the text, which statement is wrong?
A.The couples in 1980s seldom care about parents’ feelings.
B.Today more new couples prefer smaller wedding.
C.The cost of wedding today is higher than before.
D.Parents in 1980s wanted a grand wedding for their sons and daughters.
4. The passage is mainly about _________.
A.the differences between traditional wedding and new wedding
B.traditional wedding is more popular.
C.fewer people like the new wedding
D.the cost of traditional wedding.

7 . BEIJING — A bullying incident at a primary school in Beijing should not be bushed off as “a joke that went too far”; rather, faces should be dug out and action should be taken to prevent similar events from happening on campus again, according to experts.

Huang Zifang, a psychologist specializing in children's growth issues, said schools should be careful about taking bullying incidents as mere pranks.

“Instead, they should work to find out the root cause of the incident in a timely manner, guide the children involved to face and handle the incident in a correct way and teach them to behave properly to avoid-similar situations,” Huang said.

She made the comments after a mother in Beijing posted a description online on Thursday of how her 10-year-old son was bullied at Zhongguancun No 2 Primary School, a top school in Haidian district.

The mother wrote that her fourth-grade son was the target of bullies who threw a toilet wastepaper basket at him, striking him in the head. The boy was also mocked by his classmates, she said, bringing on acute stress disorder — a mental illness triggered by severe anxiety.

The mother also wrote that the school described the incident as “a joke that went too far” and that the parents of the boy who threw the basket believed their son was “just being naughty”.

The article went viral, with many internet users recalling being bullied at school.

Shen Xua, a volunteer from Beijing who has traveled the country for several years to work with schools to reduce bullying, said schools should take responsibility for such incidents and try to make the bullies understand that their behavior is “vicious and harmful” and “not allowed”.

“In the long run, a reporting system should be established to root out bullying on campus. Students should be given specific channels to report what they experience to teachers before further measures are taken to deal with incidents,” Shen said.

Huang, the psychologist, said that schools and parents must pay more attention to the ethical development and mental health of children, rather than just looking at their academic performance.

On Saturday, Zhongguancun No 2 Primary School released a statement on its social media account saying that it had talked to the parents on both sides and would make further efforts to achieve an outcome satisfactory to all parties.

1. What does Shen Xua stress according to the passage?
A.A reporting system should be set up to root out bullying on campus
B.Schools should pay more attention to children’s academic performance
C.parents should make the bullies understand their behavior is harmful
D.Police should be often involved in dealing with bulling incidents at schools

A.They didn’t take it seriously.B.They blamed the bullies quickly.
C.They reported it to the police station at once.D.They called the parents on both sides immediately.
3. What is the possible meaning of the underlined word “mocked” in Para. 5?
A.Taught the skills for an activity.B.Laughed at in an unfriendly way.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章指出了充足睡眠的重要性,以及现在人们的睡眠问题。但也提醒我们不要过多担心和改变自己的睡眠模式,适合自己的、自然而然地睡眠是最好的。

8 . Daily life has its satisfactions: The perfect reply to a friend’s text message; The first after-work drink; The sound of another government U-turn. But do any really compare to the joy of going to sleep? That moment when the mess of 21st-century existence disappears into the non-judgmental hug of a bed?

Somehow we have pushed this pleasure to the back of the queue. A third of American adults report sleeping less than the recommended seven hours. Many of us feel under-rested. For some, the problem is modern life: emails, to-do lists and screens. For other people, it’s the demands of work or family. Then there are those who can’t sleep when they try. In 1895 the Earl of Rosebery resigned after barely a year as British prime minister, unable to overcome his insomnia (失眠症). Up to 1 in 10 adults meet the criteria for insomnia.

Stressing ourselves out about a lack of sleep can make the problem worse. In his book Overcoming Insomnia and Sleep Problems, Oxford professor Colin Espie writes about “orthosomnia”, where people are so focused with sleeping well that they become too anxious to do so. The marketing of sleeping aids adds to this.

Espie says we each have a sleep pattern that, like a shoe size, we figure out through trial and error. Genetically, some humans are larks (百灵鸟) and some are owls; the larks may just have better cardiovascular (心血管的) health. For an owl to try to fight their natural schedule, and sleep earlier, wouldn’t necessarily help.

Once we weren’t urged to sleep until we were dead. Now we are told to sleep or we’ll be dead. Nowadays sleep is becoming something that people hope to excel at. About that I’m unconvinced. A goodnight’s sleep is a great pleasure. As far as possible, it should also remain a simple one.

1. What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us about sleep problem?
A.The criteria for insomnia.B.The dangers of poor sleep.
C.The causes of inadequate sleep.D.The sleep situation of American people.
2. What can we learn about “orthosomnia” in Paragraph 3?
A.It is caused by extreme anxiety.B.It will worsen the sleep problem.
C.It refers to the sleep environment.D.It can be improved by sleeping aids.
3. What can we infer from Espie’s words?
A.Sleep pattern is related to humans’ gene.
B.The owls have better cardiovascular health.
C.The sleep pattern of the larks is healthier.
D.It is necessary to fight our natural schedule.
4. What does the underlined phrase “excel at” mean in the last paragraph?
A.Figure out.B.Be good at.C.Give way to.D.Compete with.
