It was a beautiful day for sightseeing. We were a group of students just out for some fun. The weather was perfect for a picnic, so when lunch time came, we set our sights on a small park. Since we all had different things to buy, we decided to get what each of us wanted, and meet back on the grass in a few minutes.

When my friend Joy headed for a hot dog shop, I decided to go with her. We watched the seller put together the perfect hot dog, just the way we wanted it. But when we took out our money to pay the bill, the seller surprised us.

“You are the first customers to visit, and the first order is given to you for free,” he said.

After we thanked him, we joined our friends in the park, and dug into our food. But as we talked and ate, I was distracted (分心) by a man sitting alone nearby, looking at us. I could tell that he hadn’t showered for days. Another homeless person, I thought, like all the others you see in cities. I didn’t pay much more attention than that.

After we finished eating, we packed our lunch bags and prepared to throw them away.

Suddenly, a strong voice came from that homeless person.

Joy asked me to wait for her for a minute and ran to the hot dog shop.

4 . A young English teacher saved the lives of 30 students when he took______ of a bus after its driver suffered a serious heart attack. Guy Harvold,24, had ______ the students and three course leaders from Gatwick airport, and they were travelling to Bournemouth to ______ their host families. 7 . On Nov. 29, 2011, my little sister Lily was born. The whole family welcomed her arrival with open arms. We were excited to have a new _________ to our family.

The smallest things would keep her entertained for long periods, and she would _________ the same routine happily throughout the day. At the age of three, Lily was taken to the hospital by my parents. My family were heartbroken to learn that our loved one would probably be unable to live a _________ life. Unaware of what exactly this would bring, we made a decision to consider autism a _________. The diagnosis(诊断) brought our family closer, and we realized a deeper _________ for one another.

Raising a child with a developmental disability is a(n) __________ experience. Lessons are always drawn from mistakes, which always happens in daily life. However, through it all, our family is always there watching over her, __________ a comfortable and safe environment for her at all times. For those normal people, my story might make you more __________ what is really important in life. As for me, autism has actually been a combination of strength, courage and hope. It should not be viewed as a burden, but rather as a present to the families fortunate enough to __________ a different lifestyle.

Last Saturday David was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman with a boy of about eight years old. When David passed them, he heard the woman yelling: “How stupid you are! You’re good at nothing.” David stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing. He just stood there, looking upset.

David was reminded of his English teacher Mrs. Brown in middle school. After he entered middle school, David lacked self-confidence because he was often made fun of by others. He was often told that he was good at nothing, which David believed.

But one day it all changed. That day, in an English writing class, Mrs. Brown asked them to read a novel. They were asked to write a new chapter of the novel after they finished reading it. A few days later, David handed in his story. He didn’t give it much thought. But the next day to his surprise, the comment “well done” from Brown came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written. When David read that, he almost burst into tears. He had never expected to be praised. He suddenly gained some self-confidence.

That day after he returned home, he wrote another short story and gave it to Mrs. Brown the next morning. And again he was praised. David became very interested in writing. He often wrote short dories and asked Mrs. Brown to read them and correct them for him. Mrs. Brown always gave him good advice to improve them. One year later, David joined the school newspaper and became an editor of it. He gained his confidence and was hopeful about his future.

He succeeded in entering college and kept writing. Several years after graduating from college, he had his first book published, becoming famous as a writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs. Brown’s encouragement. Without her encouragement, his life might be very different now.

Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy.

The mother was ashamed when she heard that.
