A visually-challenged man from Beijing recently hiked (徒步) 40 days to Xi’an, as a first step     1     (journey) the Belt and Road route (路线) by foot.

On the 1,100 kilometer journey, the man Cao Shengkang,     2     lost his eyesight at the age of eight in a car accident, crossed 40 cities and counties in three provinces. Inspired by the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation     3     (hold) in Beijing, Cao decided to cover the route by hiking as a tribute (致敬) to the ancient Silk Road.     4     friend of his, Wu Fan, volunteered to be his companion during the trip.

Cao and Wu also collected garbage along the road, in order to promote environmental     5     (protect). Cao believes this will make the hiking trip even more     6     (meaning). The two of them collected more than 1,000 plastic bottles along the 40-day journey.

In the last five years. Cao     7     (walk) through 34 countries in six continents, and in 2016, he reached the top of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s     8     (high) mountain.

Now, Cao has started the second part of his dream to walk along the Belt and Road route. He flew 4, 700 kilometers     9     Xi’an to Kashgar on Sept. 20,     10     (plan) to hike back to Xi’an in five months.

While he was lost in thought,     9     (luck), he fell over a stone and all the eggs dropped onto the ground. He was very sad. That    10     (bring) an end to the man’s beautiful dream.

Once there lived a rich man    1    wanted to do something for the people of his town. But first he wanted     2    (find) out whether they deserved his help.

In the centre of the main road into the town, he placed     3    very large stone. Then he    4     (hide) behind a tree and waited. Soon an old man came along with his cow.

“Who put this stone in the centre of the road?” said the old man, but he did not try to remove the stone. Instead, with some difficulty he passed around the stone and continued on his way.     5     man came along and did the same thing; then another came, and another. All of them complained about the stone but not tried to remove    6    . Late in the afternoon a young man came along. He saw the stone,     7    (say) to himself: “The night    8    (be) very dark. Some neighbors will come along later in the dark and will fall against the stone.”

Then he began to move the stone. He pushed     9     pilled with all his strength to move it. How great was his surprise at last!     10     the stone, he found a bag of money.

Normally, my two-year old cat, Tiger, hates it when I use my tablet (平板电脑) because it takes my attention away from him. July last year, I had    1     terrible fall from the ladder(梯) at home and was on the floor for six     2    (hour). During this time, I was     3    (able) to move and couldn’t get to the phone to call for help. Tiger stayed by my side until he    4    (disappear) suddenly under my bed. “What’s he up to?” I wondered.     5    my surprise, he started to push something towards me. It was my tablet,     6     had fallen off the bed and onto the floor. Tiger     7    (probable) didn’t know what it was,     8    he knew it would make me happy.

Thanks to Tiger, I was able to contact a friend of     9    (I), who then called emergency(急救) services. It took me the next eight days in hospital     10    (recover). When I returned home, I bought Tiger a big fish to thank him.

Since Brad Ryan began to take grandma Joy on trips to the breathtaking landscapes of America, they     1     (go) through dozens of cross-country adventures.

In 2015, Brad Ryan visited his 85-year-old grandma     2     (live) a simple life on her own, and then he hoped that spending some quality family time with her would help to lift her spirits. When he told     3     (story) of his travels to his grandma, she regretted not seeing more of the world. From then on, the pair travelled to 29 National Parks in total, and had many adventures along the way,     6     has even affected his way of life.

“Life for her now is a lot     7     (rich). It was the look in her eyes that impressed me a lot. "Ryan said , "I love my grandma. She has taught me how to live, I’ve learned to slow down and see the world in     8     different way. There are so many viewpoints and knowledge we can gain     9     our elders. Even if some day she does pass away, I can go back to these places to feel her spirit and feel     10     (connect) to her."

A wonderful experience happened to me this Saturday on my way to a mall. Two children ran towards me     1     bottles in their hands, asking if I wanted to have bottled water. It was so     2     (surprise) that I was unsure whether this was for real. I wondered if they     3     (do) fund-raising. I asked them where     4     (they) parents were and how much a bottle of water was. Then two adult women came to me and explained     5     the children were doing, “We are teaching the children     6     (give) without getting anything in return.” What a great idea!

An exchange of ideas opened up between me, the mothers and the children. We were no longer strangers to each other. We were having such a great time     7     (chat) and I ended up helping them give away the rest of the bottled water.

One young lady was so     8     (thank) that she said it was the best thing     9     happened to her all day since she had a “bad” day at work. A couple accepted the water     10     (happy) and kept on thanking us. After all was done, the children and I gave each other a high-five. I really had great fun that day.
