On Monday night, Cindy' s nine-year-old daughter Daisy announced she was going to practice one last time for the upcoming third grade talent show. The following day, she' d be performing "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten, which they both knew would be a crowd pleaser among her young classmates. She had prepared herself for the show for nearly two months, during which she herself made the final decision to sing to the guitar. She had learned to play the guitar for two years.
As she began to play, Cindy closed her eyes, imagining for a moment what the children' s faces would look like as she began to play and sing. Most of her classmates had never heard this girl sing, let alone play the guitar. As she shared her musical gift in that spotlight moment, Cindy knew it would be hard for her to contain her smile. Cindy guessed that she would be a little nervous before so many students and teachers. But she wouldn't be invited to witness what would happen. She was a little disappointed.
"Parents aren't allowed to come to the third grade talent show, Mom," she said matter-of-factly two weeks ago, breaking her heart right in half.
“What? You must be mistaken," Cindy said, feeling inappropriately emotional about this news. They were only students of the third grade. They should be accompanied by their parents on such important occasions. They may be nervous. Her mind was full of kind thoughts and love, but she said nothing. Perhaps that day she had something unhappy so she was unwilling to talk much with her. Perhaps her school would give out invitations to all the parents welcoming them to appreciate their children's performances. She decided to offer her puzzle, so she asked with caution, "Would parents be invited to the show?"
"No. No parents. It's just for kids. " she said, doing nothing to soften the blow…that is, until she saw the look on her face. Tapping her hand gently, she said with confidence, "Don't worry, Mom. I'll be fine.”

2 . The signs appeared practically overnight. They appeared everywhere. Each featured just a few uplifting words in simple black type:“Don’t Give Up. ”“You Are Worthy of Love. ”At the high school in Newberg,Oregon, two students killed themselves that year,so the town of 25,000 instantly understood the messages. For days, what no one could figure out was who had planted them.
Amy Wolff had. She felt necessary to address Newberg’s grief. She planted the signs anonymously(匿名)because she wanted them to be about their message, not any one person.
Yet as Wolff saw the deep influence her signs had on her neighbors, she decided to share her message publicly. Instantly, her mailbox was flooded with requests for more signs. She asked a friend, graphic designer Jessica Brittell,to print more. “We decided to just ride it out, just keep going until the orders stop,”says Wolff.
That was in May 2017. Since then, the Don’t Give Up Movement launched by Wolff has spread from Newberg to the hearts and yards of people in every state and several countries. Wolff charges only the cost of materials and shipping. “It’s a terrible business decision if we wanted to function like a business,”she says.
One of the most heartening elements of the Don’t Give Up Movement is that it has gone viral in a remarkably human way. People have taken to planting the signs in their lawns, taking selfies, and then posting them to share.
“It was the best feeling in the world that I could have an impact outside of school by using these products,”says a teacher,in Texas teaching a lesson in unity after his classroom moved online. “This was a good way to let them know that we care even when we can’t see them. ”
Wolff's message is about to grow yet again. “But there has never been a more fierce backdrop to the power of hope and sympathetic action than right now,”Wolff shares.

7 . As my husband and I drove down a country road, we passed a fire station with a sign that read, "Are you ready for the next storm?” Our area had just been in the path of Hurricane Irma, causing downed trees and outages. We were stuck in the dark and cut off from the outside world.
We have had our share of storms in the past--a snowstorm and other heavy snows that knocked down trees, sometimes up to a week at a time. Those days in a cold house weren't fun, but we learned so much from those early storms, things that made later storms easier to bear.
Now we have stored up flashlights, lanterns and candles. We bought a battery-operated radio to keep up with the news. We stocked up on batteries so that we'd have plenty for extended power failures. We make sure our grill(烤架) is ready and its tank is full, and we purchase food that can be easily prepared and then cooked or heated on the grill. And we don't forget to buy emergency chocolate! We have book lights to read in the dark. We keep our car gas tanks full and have emergency cash on hand.
We're ready for the next storm, but we wouldn't have learned to do all those things if we hadn't encountered a storm in the past. The same is true spiritually. Those little storms in our lives are never fun, but they prepare us for the big storms--the big trials--that will come our way, They can teach us some valuable lessons.
Are you ready for the next storm? Now is the time to get ready. . . not when the storm arrives.

Life is full of various experiences, some of whom are unforgettable. I still remember the hiking experiences with my classmates for 16 kilometers to Hailongtun two years ago. That summer day, we set off early in the morning, think it would be great fun to walk for such long a distance. However, with the weather is getting hotter and hotter, I found their legs heavier and heavier. What’s worse, my feet began bleeding because long time pressing against the shoes. At one point, I even wanted to give up. And I managed to drag the rest of the way to the destination. Though not pleasant, this journey was impressive and rewarding. I have learnt that life is the long journey like this. No matter what happened, we should never give up.

10 . At the age of 4, I began attending the choir at St. James Church. My mother decided that joining the choir would provide me with musical instruction. I was initially joined by a lot of kids at St. James, making choir a fun, social task, but as I grew older, one by one, my friends began dropping out.
St. James was situated on the Upper East Side, one of the fanciest areas in New York, while I came from the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick. Some children at the choir proudly showed off the signs of their good education whose cost was nearly as much as my mother’s yearly wage, while I wore my uniform of jeans and a Tshirt. They knew me as the girl from Brooklyn, the chorister who went to public school. This discrepancy (差异) made me very uncomfortable.
I begged my mom to let me follow the path of my friends, but she replied with a “NO”. As the years went on, I continued to bother my mother. Her answers began to lessen in severity. She said “Just do it for one more year” or “Are you sure?” Not seeing much hope, I began to withdraw my constant requests. Gradually I enjoyed finding my voice every week in church. After years in the choir, people started to acknowledge me for my voice rather than my address and I began to appreciate music and my habitual complaints (抱怨) about the choir were completely gone.
Through the choir, I learned that if you continue with something long enough, you will receive some sort of benefit from it and maybe even grow to love it. Because of the choir,I found my voice in a small church. Because of the choir, I am willing to go wherever life will take me with an open mind.
