1 . I took a job as a receptionist for a vet almost five decades ago. As a keen animal lover, I accepted the position on the condition that I wouldn’t have to assist with any wounded animals. I couldn’t bear to see any creature in pain.
At the end of my first week, we were closing the office for the day when a young man ran up to us holding a severely injured Doberman puppy in his arms and begging us to save his life. The four- month-old pup had been hit by a car.
The doctor and I ran back into the operating room. The only place the skin was still attached to this poor little animal’s body was around one shoulder. The vet worked tirelessly for what seemed like hours, stitching him back together again. That was the easy part. The puppy had broken multiple bones, including his spine(脊椎). If he survived the next few days, we were quite sure he would never walk again.
That day forever changed my life. The vet mentored me, and I became his assistant in all things medical. One of my first jobs was to give that Doberman puppy daily physical therapy. I remember moving his tiny legs to try to keep his muscles from withering.
Weeks went by until one day, I felt this little fighter push back ever so slightly. And he continued to push back till he could finally use his legs.
Fas-forward about a year, I walked into the clinic’s crowded waiting room and called the name of the next client. Suddenly, a huge Doberman who had been standing quietly with his owner on the opposite side of the room broke loose and rushed toward me. I found myself pinned against the wall with this magnificent dog standing on his hind legs, his front paws on my shoulders, washing my face with abundant and joyful kisses!
I am still amazed at the display of love and gratitude the dog had for me that day all those years ago. I went on to be a vet tech for 14 years, and since retirement, I’ve volunteered at a no-kill animal shelter.

2 . Distinguish Between Work and Home Modes
When working at home, slowly moving from bed to the sofa five minutes before you start can also be your biggest challenge.
* Be realistic
A wide, open day working from home can feel full of possibilities. 145 things on the to-do list? No problem!
*
In the office your day is broken up by everything from meetings to lunch breaks and even toilet breaks, but when you are at home, it can be easy to just work for long, unbroken periods. In order to be productive, you should impose structure on yourself, for example, 45-minute to 60-minute chunks of focused work followed by a short break.
* Take some breaks
It can be difficult to tear yourself away from your laptop, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take breaks. Leave your desk for lunch and take advantage of being at home to walk the dog for half an hour in the afternoon. You'll return feeling refreshed and more productive for the rest of the day.
* Be sociable
A.Work in short bursts |
B.Manage disturbances |
C.Don't fall into the trap of being over-ambitious |

3 . Cedar, a third-generation beekeeper from the countryside of New South Wales, Australia, says that he was inspired to try and design a simply hive (蜂箱)after his brother was stung (蛰)during one of their honey-gathering tasks.
The young guy knew that there must be a clever way to gather honey without having to wear protective suits, open the hive, and disturb the little bees. After several years. Cedar and his father Stuart finally perfected their invention—the Flow Hive, which can save beekeepers hours of work simply by channeling all of its honey into a tap that can be turned on and off at will.
Four years after their initial success, the Flow Hive has had a big influence on honeybee populations around the world. The father and his son say that they have successfully shipped over 51,000 hives to 150 different countries. Since they introduced the hive in 2015, the number of beekeeper in the US alone has increased by over 10%.
Their success is particularly significant since honeybee populations have been steadily decreasing as a result of habitat loss. That's why now Stuart and Cedar Anderson are donating their hive earnings to international honeybee advocacy groups.
“We’re proud to have donated 100% of profits from the sale of our Flow Pollinator (传粉昆虫)House to nine local pollinator projects in Australia and the US that are at work protecting wild habitats all around the world," said the Anderson in a statement. "Pollinators need large areas of habitat to grow healthily—the more we can do to conserve native habitats, the more opportunities these tiny environmental champions will have to do their important work."
