1 . Have you ever been in a situation when you are unwilling to carry out the tasks that need to be done?
Jump out of bed at the beginning of the day. Research tells us that turning off the alarm clock and going back to sleep are bad for us. You might think lying there and enjoying the warmth of the covers would make you more energized later, but the opposite happens.
Tell yourself you can do something. Action changes everything. One moment you're passive (被动的)and frozen, but the next you're changing things, simply because you act. You are not decided by what went on before. If you do feel stuck, try telling yourself your action statements: I am up at once and I am productive! And definitely no “if only” statements.
Celebrate success and milestones.

B.Set some goals that are likely to be achieved. |
C.We are actually more tired throughout the day. |

2 . Have you ever gone to a museum or a show and been completely blown away by a piece? If you haven’t, go out and get cultured. I’m a student at the College of Visual and Performing Arts where we create all kinds of art every day.
First of all, we need to be inspired. You may think that’s easy. In fact, anything can serve as a concept of a work of art.
The process can take weeks, months, and even years to be fully realized. Once completed, we need to share it and find an audience and provide an environment to display our work.
Creating art is an art in itself. It is really not as easy as many people think.
A.Outsiders think our jobs easy. |
B.We should be quiet and creative. |
C.We might choose other fields as well. |
D.Resources are also a huge factor in making art. |
E.The hard part comes when we put our ideas into reality. |

3 . A Few Benefits of Working a Part-Time Job as a Student
Working while studying seems like a total drag, but there are many benefits of working a part-time job as a student.
●
● You gain independence.
● You learn to manage your time wisely. Going to classes, working a part-time job, socializing with friends and making time for your hobbies make for a busy schedule, but juggling (尽力同时应付) so many different tasks can help you improve your time management skills.
● You build your professional network. No matter where you are working, a part-time job gives you the chance to network with other people. For example, you might meet a client who’s working for your dream company.
Working while studying has its advantages, but if you feel that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, then you should consider discussing your hours with your manager or looking for an alternative part-time job.
A.Once you find the right balance |
B.You learn to manage your money |
C.You never know who knows who |
D.Naturally, you’ll bond with some workmates |

5 . Do you like the idea of running your own business from home? Most of you do, and the first things you say you like about it are being your own boss, having flexible hours and working in your pajamas.
Being your own boss is definitely one big advantage.
Working in your pajamas may seem appealing initially. But it can also prevent you from actually getting your work done.
In order to run a successful business from home you need to have a good mindset.
Taking off too many hours each week will damage your financial stability and long-term success. Set goals and limits on your time. Build your business first, before taking advantage of what working from home offers.
A.But it can also become your downfall without care. |
B.Flexible hours are another huge plus of working from home. |
C.Once it's achieved, you'll have more opportunities to develop business contacts. |
D.You may find it more efficient to get up, exercise, then shower and dress for work. |

F.One of the biggest drawbacks is that it is so easy to allow yourself to have excuses. |
G.While these benefits sound great, the reality of working from home can be a little different. |
6 . How to Choose Your Purpose-Filled Career
When you think about choosing a career, you often do it in the following two ways.
Think about a well-paid job that you can do and doesn’t sound so bad. Maybe a doctor, engineer or lawyer? Or maybe that’s out of your educational reach, so you choose office or retail worker.
However, there’s another way that is perhaps better:
There are endless ways to do that. The point isn’t how you serve the world, but just serving the world in some way will help you feel filled with purpose.
A.These are all great choices |
B.Think about what you like to do |
C.You can identify your purpose and work out how to get there |
D.Each of these is just one of many possibilities filled with purpose |
E.Try to do something to serve a community or make the world better |
F.The sooner you complete the training requirements, the sooner you will make a living |
G.If you choose a purposeful and enjoyable job, you’re always further along than most people |
7 . A few steps to finding purpose at work
When was the last time you felt that you had made a difference at work? Do you regularly find yourself rolling your eyes in Zoom meetings or counting down to your lunch break?
Define your purpose. Finding purpose doesn’t have to be about saving the world.
Find your place. Once you’ve figured out what matters to you, look at where you work.
Get out of your own way. Be it in the company you work for, an organization you admire or a different industry altogether, decide on what role you want to play - and then work out how to get there.
A.Plan your path. |
B.Does it fit your purpose? |
C.All in all, find the ‘why’ in what you do. |
D.Focus on your unique strengths and experience. |
E.Figuring out the meaning in your career is helpful. |
F.It’s about working out what ‘purpose’ means to you. |
G.If so, it might be time to work out what your purpose is. |
8 . Finding a Summer Job
Thinking about a summer job? To find a job that's right for you, make a list of your interests and strengths, as well as your dislikes and the things you need some improvement in, and keep them in mind as you look for a job.
As jobs become harder to find, you may have to take whatever is available and that's OK.
A.Why do you get a summer job? |
B.What's the right job? |
C.Learning to readjust goals is another important life skill. |
D.A job should be about learning as well as making money. |
E.Work experience can also help you feel good about yourself. |
F.Some companies and businesses offer bright students short-term training. |
G.For example, if you love books or writing, a job in a bookstore or library might be perfect for you. |
9 . You don’t need to be a world-class mountaineer to stand out in a job interview. Here’s my advice on how to nail the most common interview question.
Most people are so eager to show off what they’ve been involved in. Don’t worry, and there will be time for that. The interviewer has reviewed your resume and will ask you plenty about your expertise. “Tell me about yourself” is a question you’re certain to be asked at any job interview.
Everyone has something interesting to share about themselves. I’ve heard people talk about everything from being a world-class sushi chef to an ice carver.
Another way to think about the question is: “What gets you up every morning?” The person also wants to know what your sense of passion and purpose is. That volunteer work on a farm cooperative in South America, for example, shows you have a global perspective.
A.Take a risk to get personal. |
B.Showing honesty is one of the most important things. |
C.Running your first 10 kilometers shows you like a challenge. |
D.And then everything you say about yourself will be questioned. |
E.It's also important to tell it in a way that makes you memorable. |
F.Too many people respond to it by giving a recital of their resume. |
G."Tell me about yourself" is an invitation for you to share brief information. |
10 . The volunteer work experience is a great way to give back to the community.
As you are considering the volunteer work experience you want to get, you might start by considering your interests and where you hope to take your career. If you really enjoy working with kids and want to become a teacher, volunteering in an after-school or tutoring program can be a great place to start.
A.It also improves your job skills |
B.If you don’t know how to hunt for a job |
C.Certain skills can help you get volunteer chances |
D.You should find a larger organization in the community |
E.Such nonprofit organizations can really need volunteers |
F.If you like animals, animal rescue centers can be your best choice |
G.Once you’ve narrowed down the type of volunteer work experience |
