1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

Have you ever felt the need to grab a pen and start writing your thoughts on a piece of paper? Tom had always been a lover of stories, and of words that come together to create vivid imagery (意象). He would spend hours writing down his thoughts and ideas, crafting worlds and people with his pen and paper.

But when it came to his parents, they didn’t believe how much he enjoyed writing. In fact, they discouraged him, telling him that he should focus on more practical career fields like becoming a lawyer.

The annual writing competition arrived once again, which was a time to show creative writing as well as the vivid imagination of students. Although Tom had a burning passion for writing, he had always hesitated to enter the race. He was worried that his parents would disapprove of him spending so much time writing, leading him to miss the competition in previous years. But this time, he decided to take a chance and see if he could win this race. Perhaps if his parents saw how talented he truly was, they would come to support him.

Days passed as he carefully prepared his writing, pouring his heart and soul into every word. When he finished, he read it over and felt proud of what he had written. He prepared to hand in his writing, but his parents still believed he was wasting time. He still decided to submit his entry anyway.

Weeks went by before the contest’s results were announced. Tom waited anxiously, wondering if his writing was good enough to win a prize. He checked out his mailbox every day after school.

3 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Amanda felt as gray as the sky outside when she looked across the table at her little sister. Li sat on her seat, drinking from her cup.

“Mom, why does Li hate me?”

“Honey, she doesn't hate you. Li is still getting used to you,” Mom said. “It's only been two weeks.”

“But look,” Amanda took a cookie off her dish and held it out to Li.

“Want to eat it?”

As soon as Li saw Amanda reaching over, her eyes widened. Li quickly got down from her seat and raced to her room.

“See?” Amanda said to Mom. “I thought being a big sister would be fun.”

Over a year ago, Amanda’s parents said that they were adopting(收养)a daughter from China, and Amanda had danced with excitement. She'd dreamed of taking her sister to the park, reading books to her, and teaching her to ride a bicycle. That hadn’t happened.

“She runs away whenever I get close,” Amanda said.

Mom took Amanda’s hand. “Think of how frightening it is for her. She’s in a new country with a new family.”

“I just wish I knew how to help her,” Amanda said, thinking of Li's frightened eyes.

Amanda went into the family room and sat down on the sofa. How could she help Li? She’d sung songs to her, drawn pictures for her, and made funny faces. None of that had worked.

Amanda turned on the TV. She stopped to watch a film about a dog and a cat. The film was in another language. The show looked funny, but she didn't understand any of it. It made Amanda remember when they were in China. She had gotten frustrated(沮丧的)when people talked in Chinese.

That' s it. Amanda turned off the TV and sped to her room. She found the CDs Aunt Linda gave her last year to help her learn some Chinese.

Amanda tiptoed(踮着脚走)to Li's room. Looking in, Amanda saw Li curled up(卷缩)in a ball on her bed. She could hear Li sobbing(哭泣). Amanda knocked on the open door.

Li moved to the back of her bed.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

Little Andy was a 10-year-old kid. He had a younger brother named Johnny. Andy was the elder one, but unfortunately he was the troublemaker rather than his brother Johnny. Besides, he often put Johnny in trouble in front of their parents by lying to them so as not to carry responsibility for his actions. However, they trusted Johnny and believed him more than they believed Andy because they knew the two kids well.

Andy tried to make friends in school, but they quickly discovered how he was used to lying and how he loved to play tricks on others. Moreover, Andy always put others in trouble, which was really annoying to them. As a result, people around him stopped believing him and gradually stayed out of his way.

One day, when their parents were out of the house, Andy and Johnny were watching TV. After a while, Andy found Johnny asleep on the sofa. So Andy went to the kitchen and wanted to play a trick on Johnny. He used flour to make some easy bombs and hung them on the door trim line so that when Johnny went to the kitchen and tried to open the door the bombs would fall on him. Then Andy went to the bathroom quietly to color the soap with paints so that if Johnny washed his hands, his hands would be colored. Suddenly, their parents came back and they found that Johnny was sleeping. Their father was going to the kitchen to wash his hands, and their mother was going to the kitchen to prepare food for them. Andy tried to stop them but failed. Soon Johnny was awakened by screams. He looked at his parents and didn't know what had taken place. Their parents both had colored hands and came out of the kitchen covered with flour.

Paragraph 1:

They were extremely angry and asked who did that.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Father’s Day was in two weeks. I didn’t know what to get Dad. Last year I made him a photo album. This year I wanted to do something different.

At dinner, Dad accidentally dropped his favorite blue tie into his soup bowl. The tie was ruined. I suddenly knew what to get Dad for Father’s Day!

“How much does a tie cost?” I asked Mom the next morning.

“Depends,” she said.“ Some can cost twenty dollars. Do you have enough money. Carter?”

“No, ” I said sadly.

When I got to my room to change into my school clothes I noticed a hole in my shirt.

“Mom, I need you to sew(缝补) my shirt, I said loudly, rushing out the door to the school bus.

At school I picked at the hole in my shirt. I thought about how I could come up with enough money to buy a tie. I took a deep sigh, and played with the hold some more. As the hole grew in size, an idea sprung into my mind.

After coming home from school, I dug through my closet trying to find other worn clothes.

“Mom! "I yelled down the hall heading towards her.

Can I cut these clothes up to make Dad a patchwork(拼缝) tie for Father’s Day?” I pointed out the holes to Mom.

“ I guess,” he said.

“And,” I added, “Can you show me how to sew and make tiny stitches(针脚)?”

“Yes, Carter. Let s start now before Dad gets home.” Mom said, heading for her sewing supplies.

I followed Moms instructions and started making a patchwork tie. I gently pressed my foot on the foot pedal(缝纫机脚踏板) . Suddenly, the needle stopped and the machine made a horrible sound. “No!” I said.

“Try again, Carter, ” Mom instructed.

I took a deep breath and gently applied the pedal again. Unluckily, I failed again.

6 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

For nearly twenty years, my life was about two things: smoking cigarettes—and trying to quit smoking cigarettes.

When I married Cassie ten years ago, I threw my pack of cigarettes and swore I was quitting.

When we bought our first house eight years ago, I celebrated it by pulverizing (粉碎) my pack of cigarettes with my shoe heel.

When my son, Cole, was born five years ago, I threw my cigarettes into a garbage can.

I even began working out—running days a week, rain or shine. I lost forty pounds but I never was able to outrun those cigarettes.

You know cigarettes are deadly—but every cell in your body screams out for that nicotine. Then, one day the willpower I had lacked arrived from most unexpected place: an unclouded corner of my son’s mind.

As Cassie was driving Cole home from kindergarten, they passed a cemetery (墓地), which made the boy ask: “Mom, what’s under tombstones?”

Realizing there was no delicate answer, she frankly said, “Dead people.”

“Is that where Dad’s going to be because he smokes?” Cole asked. “I hope not,” Cassie replied. “Dad shouldn't smoke,” Cole said, his voice rising in anger. He kicked the back of the front seat. “Dad’s stupid for smoking. When I'm twenty, he’ll be dead.”

Cassie was speechless, shocked by Cole’s innocence. Then, just as quickly as he had exploded, Cole calmed down. “I hope he comes back as a ghost and talks to me,” he said peacefully. “Like Obi-Wan Kenobi did to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.”

When I arrived home from work that evening, Cassie recounted the story to me.
