4 . Tips to Start Doing Things That You Do Not Like To Do

Even though it is there on our to-do list, we give it less priority (优先权) because we dislike doing it.     1     On the other side, if you put effort into doing difficult things or those things you do hate to do, you will be able to do harder tasks with confidence later in life. Here are some good-to –know tips that will encourage you to start doing things that you do not like to do:

Stop hating the task.     2     To become a confident and better person, you should start loving to do difficult things, especially the ones you do not like to do.

Look at the bigger picture. If you meet a difficult task, instead of shying away from it, take some time and think about it. What is the major reason behind doing this task?     3     you need to look at the bigger picture instead of just thinking about the task.

Overcome your fear. One thing that stops you from carrying out the task is fear. You may develop a fear, thinking that the task is very difficult or you are not comfortable when doing it. You can never overcome fear by running away from it.     4     Why not face it now and become braver?

5    . If you think you have enough time on your side, you may not put enough effort into carrying out the task. So, if you limit yourself to carry out a certain task in a set period, you will not waste time but make the best use of it and accomplish the task.

A.Do not think about the failure.
B.Set a time period to complete it.
C.Sooner or later you have to face it.
D.What will happen if you complete the task?
E.Life would be boring without difficult situations.
F.Successful people do things they do not like to do, too.
G.Instead of giving it a try, we may stay away from it completely.

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章主要论述的是人生中有很多的失败,但有时候,只有失败才能给我们带来更好的机会或更大的成功。

5 . “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade (柠檬水).” It is a good saying, but life throws at us more serious problems than lemons, doesn’t it? What do we do when we lose a family member? What do we do when we have been through events that leave us feelings? Can any failure be turned into success?

Most of us realize we can learn one or two things from failure. When we fail, we think, “Well, I won’t try that again! ”or “I won’t trust anyone again! ”But this is not useful learning. It is suggested that we ask challenging questions. For example, “How could I try that again?” There are a lot we can learn and get from failure if we keep asking good questions on how to do better next time.

Failure or pain can be good for developing our character if we choose to face it in a positive way. Our own suffering often makes us understand others better. It can give us wisdom or knowledge to share with others, which can prevent them from similar failure. If we have been hurt by others because of another person’s poor character, it may improve us to be better persons.

Failures can make us experience many things that we didn’t experience before. If you lose your job, it doesn’t mean you lose everything and probably you may get more. As we know, no job often leads to self employment; no job has been the beginning of many highly successful businesses. It is common that we don’t like changing, but change, even unfortunate change, brings new opportunities. Sometimes only failure brings us better opportunities or greater success.

9 . When I see my children avoiding the food on dirty plates in the sink or cringing at the wet sand sticking to her hands, I’m reminded of a time when I was unwilling to get my hands a little dirty.

My parents owned a 500-acre ranch (牧场) in Montana when I was young. We had the usual group of animals to care for: cows, sheep, horses, chickens, dogs and barn cats. There were always fences to fix and things to plow or burn. I probably didn’t help as much as I should have, could have or would have if I’d been a little older.

One cold day, I was checking on the sheep with my mother when she spied a sheep in trouble. The poor thing was trying to deliver her lamb and needed our help. My mother calmly held the sheep’s head and instructed me to grab hold of two tender legs.

I hesitated, and must have had quite a look of panic on my young face. The little things were definitely not something I wanted to touch. But I worked up my courage and put my fingers around them. My heart beat in fear and excitement as I pulled with all my strength. I can still remember the feel of the unexpectedly soft legs and their sharp little hooves (蹄) as if it happened yesterday. I remember feeling happy to see “my lamb” being licked (舔) clean by her mother.

Looking back, I’m so glad that I didn’t refuse to get my hands a little dirty. If I had, a wonderful memory would have been lost. Sometimes you need to get your hands a little dirty to experience something amazing and pure.
