2 . Online learning is now becoming very popular around the world. As we know, it allows people to learn at home and people can learn the courses from anywhere in the world. Anyone who wants to learn something can enroll (注册) into a good school offering online courses and complete their education. Besides being convenient, there is no age limit; one can take a course anytime and at any point in their career.
Online learning also means that people have more time for their own life while continuing their education. They are able to learn when it’s convenient for them, and in many cases the courses can be completed in less time than at a traditional school. People can go to work during the day and finish their homework at night. Parents can spend time with their children and then complete online classes when their children are at school or asleep. Since people don’t have to take part in any classroom activities, it does not do any harm to their lives. They can work and learn at any time of the day and at their own speed.
Many people find that online courses are less expensive than traditional ones. Classroom teaching is usually expensive and not suitable for a lot of people. Through online learning, one can save a lot. People don’t have to spend more money on traveling, staying in hotels or eating in restaurants. Online courses are a good choice for those who are short of money but want to learn something and improve themselves. According to the U.S. Department of Education, students learning online have not only saved a lot of money but also performed better than those learning in traditional schools.
Of course, online learning requires a regimented lifestyle and the ability to learn on one’s own. For people who are not strict with themselves, online learning can be a real challenge. For busy people who take online classes, time management can be a challenge. They have to decide for themselves when to work on class tasks and how long they will need in order to finish the work. So, people must think about all of these things before making a choice.

4 . My cellphone rang while I was working on my computer. I looked at the phone and saw it was my 17-year-old son, Tom. I quickly picked it up. “Mom, I got a 71 on the test. I did it.” With those few words, I could feel my heart start to pound.
Living in New York State, students cannot graduate from high school unless they pass at least five exams: one in English, one in science, two in history and one in math. For most students, who work hard, attend class, and do their homework, it isn’t that hard. But for Tom, who is dyslexic(朗读困难的), it is such a real challenge that some teachers have feared he would never be able to even attempt, never mind achieve.
We were honest with him about his trouble, letting him know that there was nothing to be ashamed of. Some people learn differently. If he was willing to work, we would help him find a way to do as much as he could in his academic career. All that was standing in his way was this math test. He had taken it three times and did better each time, but he continued to fail. He was starting to get a bit tired of me saying this was a marathon not a sprint(冲刺). My heart broke each time we would get the failing results.
“Mom, thanks. I love you. Thanks for believing I could do this.”
For one of the few times in my life, I really had nothing left to say. For that one brief moment I knew, really, really, knew that everything we did to help our son achieve what he wanted was worth it.

6 . The Internet can provide a wealth of educational resources for small children, if you know where to look.
Enchanted Learning
Enchanted learning is a great website for children, and I know several teachers who rely on it for materials for their classrooms. Most of the information is free, but for $ 20.00 per year, you can purchase a membership that allows you to have access to the site without the advertising. The pages here are great. There are colored pages and worksheets for toddlers (学步儿童) and school-age children.
Starfall
Starfall is another good educational website for small children. Teachers often use this website in classrooms. It emphasizes reading skills for early learners. The website is aimed at first-grade-level learners, but it has tools that can help all children from pre-K to second grade. The website has reading activities, worksheets to download, and a store where you can purchase educational materials for your children.

8 . When I was in third grade, my parents let me join an advanced preparatory math class, Sigma, despite the fact that I had never displayed a liking for math at school. I stepped into class on the first day thinking that I would spend a year at Sigma before leaving.
On the first day of class, we took an hour long test I merely did the best I could and tried to figure out how to do the problems I hadn't learned how to do in school. However, what I hadn't expected was to come first! Before that day, I had never believed I was good at math at all. But as the year went on, I consistently got the highest score.
When I was in eighth grade, I joined my school's math team where I was one of the top four students chosen to represent my school at a statewide middle school math competition. By that time, I had created a reputation for myself at school as a math girl. But what drew me to the math team was that it was the first community I felt like I was a real part of. It was a home where I belonged, where everyone was as excited about problem solving as I was.
I stopped going to Sigma when I was in ninth grade, but I still stayed in the math team. The math team isn't like Sigma - a place to make you believe in yourself, to take endless tests and compete to see where you are placed relative to your classmates. The math team is the community where I have pushed myself to my limits and have seen other people push themselves. And most importantly, the math team is the place where I have met some of the kindest people I know today. Thank you, math team, for giving me friends and people I will care about even after I go off to college in less than a year and a half. Thank you for making me feel loved.

A.No more tests. |
