Arts Crafts (Thursdays): Is your child crafty? If scissors and glue are their thing, then this is the club for them! This afternoon club provides plenty of time for students to create their own works of art. We will dismiss by car line at the SLC patio at 4: 15 p. m. 25 seats are available per session.

This year, we’re introducing a new and innovative approach to club enrollment—a lottery system. All families will fill out one Google Form with their child’s club choices to enter the lottery.

2 . English Summer Camp for Teens
Located on the campus of Columbia University in Manhattan, New York, our camp offers English learners between 14 and 17 years old from all over the world the chance to improve their English language skills. The camp also offers students many exciting activities and excursions(短途旅行)in New York. We have residential and day camp programs.

Full-board residential accommodation:
All students are accommodated in single rooms in the university residence that features wireless Internet, a fitness center, student’s laundry facilities and outdoor seating areas. Bathrooms are shared. We offer health y food choices, with plenty of varieties and special diet options.
The camp capacity is only 200 students and we get application s from over 40 different countries, thus the number of students coming from one country is limited.
We don’t have application deadlines. However, all enrollments are subject to space availability. We recommend that you reserve your place as far in advance as possible. Many parents and students are “early birds” and make their decision 6 to 8 months in advance.

4 . A Color Run at School
What Is a Color Run?
The event is usually a five-kilometer untimed run. Participants are doused(浇涂上)from head to toe in a different colored powder at each kilometer mark. This activity inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi is perfect for promoting community and happiness.
A color run is a fun event perfect for schools. It is a way to promote health and activity among children. Schools can choose whether they want to host a color run by themselves or have one organized by an event organizer.
Why Should I Take Part in a Color Run?
Taking part in a color run will help you improve your overall physical health. It’s a great way to burn calories and get out. You will also be able to meet new people.
How to Set Up a School Color Run?
To set up a school Color Run, you will first need to decide what time you want it to start. Then, you will need to contact the principal at your school. They will then tell you if there is enough space available at the named location. You will need to inform the class teachers and include information in the student handbook. Next, you should contact the parents/guardians of the students at the school through a mailed letter or email. With everything listed above completed, you will have your event organized and ready to go!

5 . What is spring break?
Between tests and after-school activities, we all deserve a much-needed pause from school to relax and regroup. Entering spring break, a glorious week set aside in the middle of the semester for students to take time off and unwind(放松).
When is spring break 2023?
The dates of spring break 2023 vary from school to school, but most take place in March or April. You can check your school’s calendar(校历) to see when spring break 2023 is scheduled.
How long is spring break?
Again, the length of spring breaks differ across the country. A majority are just one week, but some spring breaks(mostly among colleges and universities) are two weeks long.
What should I do over spring break 2023?
Spring break 2023-will be here before you know it, but that means you should start planning if you want to travel. Looking to escape the cold? Booking a trip somewhere beachside or poolside, taking advantage of spring skiing, snowboarding, or other late-winter activities. There are many, many options. Staycations(就近度假) are also perfect for connecting with family and friends, binge-watching(一口气看完)a new series on Netflix, planning a local museum trip, picking up a new hobby, going for a hike, or finally making a dent in your TBR list. Super scholars might take this time to prepare and get ahead on their studies. If college year is fast-approaching, you could even plan some college tours and arrange in-person visits to some of the campuses on your list.

6 . Middle school students in Valdosta are learning the importance of agriculture.
Lowndes County Extension agent (代理人) Joshua Dawson, helped seventh-grade students attending J. L. Newbern Middle School build raised bed plant boxes to grow crops. Dawson’s work with the school gardens began in 2014 as a part of the Valdosta School Garden and Orchard Project. Through support from local businesses and members of the community, it is used to introduce Valdosta elementary and middle school students to gardening and agriculture.
Some of the crops grown in the gardens include sweet potatoes, collards, carrots and kale. The harvested (收获的) produce is served by the schools’ dining rooms during lunch and students are allowed to take produce home depending on the harvest size.
Helping Dawson with the gardens are members of the local Master Gardener program. With his daily responsibilities as a County Extension agent, Dawson depends heavily on their support. “Without the Master Gardeners, I don’t know if any of this would be possible. They look after the gardens and work with the teachers more closely than I, and provide necessary feet on the ground for a lot of things,” Dawson said.
At the beginning, the students expressed worries about working in the garden, but Dawson said those doubts disappeared quickly. “I like watering the plants and working with the soil” said Anthony Aikens, a seventh-grader Anthony, who said his favorite subject is science, wants to be a zoologist or a full-time gardener when he grows up.
Dr Elena Ponder, principal of J. L. Newbern Middle School, said this project has attracted many students. She said working in the garden provides students with a cross-curriculum (交叉课程) where they apply different skills to solve problems. “Once you plant a garden, you have to attend to that garden. That shows you have the work ethic (职业道德), patience and time to put into something. That will translate into work-related skills they can apply to jobs in the future,” she said.

Overview: It is available to high school seniors and current college students. You must submit an essay of between 500 and 750 words on one of the following three topics: How have you advanced the spirit of giving? How has the spirit of giving affected you personally? How will your present education allow you to be of service to others?
■Ocean Awareness Contest
Deadline: June 15, 2021
Award Amount: Up to $1,500
Overview: It is open to students between the ages of 11 and 18. Students are invited to learn about the climate crisis and its impact on oceans, discover solutions and create work that explores hope in action.
Submissions are accepted in visual art, film, music, or poetry.
■Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest
Deadline: September 19, 2021
Award Amount: $25,000
Overview: Essay contest on Ayn Rand’s novel, Atlas Shrugged. There are 59 prizes, and first prize is $25,000! To enter, submit an 800 to 1,600word essay on one of the specific topics about the novel, which can be viewed on the scholarship provider’s website.
■Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
Deadline: October 31, 2021
Award Amount: $20,000
Overview: It is a scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors, who are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. Applicants must be expecting completion of a high school diploma at the time of application and planning to pursue a degree at a postsecondary institution.

9 . How to Choose Extracurricular Activities
From sports to clubs to outside organizations, there are many activities to take part in outside the classroom.

10 . In early November of 1942, my geology (地质学) class was supposed to go on a field trip to see the mica mine (云母矿). Although it rained, everyone showed up on time. I was the only girl in the class. We all fit into two cars.
Near Deary, Mr. Tier, our teacher, went into a store to ask about the direction, while townsmen looked at us with curiosity. On the store owner’s advice, we drove out into the hills for a few miles. Then we left the cars. We were afraid they would get stuck in the mud.
Eventually, we located the mine near the top of the mountain. There was a very small hole, running about two or three hundred feet into the mountainside. The passage (通道) was so narrow that we could touch both sides with our hands, and not tall enough to allow us to stand up straight. The first boy held the torch; we took hold of the backs of each other’s coats, in a line, and followed him in, ducking our heads. After getting in, we were disappointed because it was not the mine our teacher was looking for.
The rain was coming down hard as we started back to the cars to go home. Back at Deary, we went into a drugstore and stood around its big heating stove to dry out. The clerk was a middleaged lady. Seeing our entirely wet hair and clothes, she handed each of us a cup of hot water immediately and asked if there was anything wrong with any of us.
Hiking eight miles in the rain had not reduced our interest at all. We all felt we had a wonderful time, even if we didn’t find the mine.
