文章大意:这是一篇说明文,如何在生活中变得更加快乐、如何保持更加快乐。大学心理学讲师根据自己的研究提出了四条建议。

2 . Based on his own research at Washington University in St. Louis and other scientific studies, psychology lecturer Bono offers the following tips for getting and staying happier in your life.

1     Looking forward to an enjoyable experience can make it all that much sweeter. Wait a couple of days before seeing a new movie that just came out, plan your big vacation for later in the summer, and try to take time to enjoy each bite of dessert. On the opposite, get negative tasks out of the way as quickly as possible — any delay will only make them seem worse.

People who focus more on process than outcome tend to remain motivated in the face of setbacks. They’re better at sticking with major challenges and prefer them over the easy route.     2     Because it celebrates rewards that come from the work itself. Focusing only on the outcome can lead to premature burnout if things don’t go well.

3     Find an activity that allows you to get together with friends on a regular, ongoing basis. A weekly happy hour, poker night, or TV show ensures consistency and motivation in your social interactions. People with high-quality relationships are not only happier, but also healthier.     4

The next time you are attracted to use your phone to look through social media, look through your list of contacts instead.     5     The happiness you get from a real connection with another person will be far greater than any comments or likes you get on social media.

A.Anticipation itself is pleasurable.
B.Decrease unnecessary socializing.
C.Find someone to call or FaceTime.
D.This “growth mindset” helps people stay energized.
E.Facebook and Instagram often overstate how much better off others are.
F.Nothing is more important for our psychological health than high-quality friendships.
G.They recover from illnesses more quickly, live longer, and enjoy more enriched lives.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要讨论了哭泣在生活中的作用和好处。

6 . Tears can ruin make-up, bring conversation to a stop, and give you a runny nose. Tears leave you embarrassed and without energy. Still, crying is a fact of life, and your tears are very useful. Even when you’re not crying, they make a film over the eye’s surface.     1

When tears fall, they reduce stress. But we tend to fight them for all sorts of reasons. “People worry about showing their emotions, afraid that once they lose control they’ll never get back.”    2     After we cry, the feelings that caused the tears often disappear.

Sometimes people become much stressed and can’t cry. Whatever emotion they are feeling—shock, anger, fear, or sadness—is being held back.

3     Psychologist Vera Diamond explains that her treatment often consists of giving people permission to cry.     4     Patients practice crying just to become used to expressing emotions. She suggests safe, private places to cry, like under the bedcovers or in the car. Crying is a way of easing tension, but people don’t like it when others cry because it makes them tense. They too may be holding back a need to cry. And they’ll do just about anything to make tears stop.

In certain situations, such as at work, tears are not appropriate. It’s good not to cry during a tense business discussion.    5     You should also act out the whole situation again and be as noisy and angry as you like. It will help you feel better. “And,” she adds, “Once your tears have taken away the stress, you can begin to think calmly of ways to deal with the problem.”

Tears are a sign of our ability to feel. If you find yourself near someone crying, deal with it. And never be afraid to cry yourself.

A.She gives crying exercises.
B.They cry for different reasons.
C.But everyone has the need to cry.
D.But once you’re safely behind closed doors, don’t just cry.
E.However, when you come home from work, it’s okay to cry.
F.The fact is that no emotion lasts forever.
G.It contains a chemical against infection(炎症).

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

If you are constantly lack of confidence and worried about what other people think about your shortcomings, you will never get to where you need to go in life. This was what I learned from my own experience.

My name is Peter. Before I was born, the doctors examined my mom and found there was something wrong with my face, and actually it was worse. With my “weird” face, I knew I was not an ordinary ten-year-old kid. I had never been to a real school before, not because of the way I looked, but all the surgeries I had. Mom homeschooled me. I became stronger, though. So maybe it was time for me to go to the real school.

One day, I happened to hear Mom and Dad talking about me quietly. “We can’t keep protecting him.” Mom whispered to Dad, “We have to help him learn to deal with it. We can’t just keep avoiding situations that… ”, but she didn’t even finish her sentence because she saw me. “Go back to sleep, Peter,” Mom said softly.

“Everyone will stare at me at school,” I said, suddenly crying.

Mom came over, putting her hand on mine. “Honey, you know if you don’t want to do this, you don’t have to. But we spoke to the principal (校长) , Mr. Green and told him how funny and smart you are. When I told him about all your surgeries, and how brave you are, ‘Wow, I have to meet this kid.’ ” Mom smiled at me.

“He is really a nice man. Besides, a real school is really good for you. Peter, you will make lots of friends and learn things you have never learned with Mom.” Dad added, raising his hand as if to swear.

“But… I don’t want to go. I am afraid... ” I said in a low voice.

“How about at least meeting Mr. Green before you make up your mind?” Mom asked.

I nodded, unwilling to accept the arrangement.

8 . How to Stay Up In Down Times

Not only is life hard, it can unexpectedly become harder. One day we might be comfortably taking a walk, and then suddenly it seems like everything is going wrong.     1    , there are ways to approach your situation.

Express gratitude. Be aware of what you do have, whether it’s a fantastic friend or wonderful partner. Try to make a list of things you are grateful for every night for two weeks. Write your friends a letter telling them how they have helped you.     2    .

Volunteer. Many studies have shown that community service is more satisfying over the long term than focusing on your problems.     3    . You can become less focused on the bad stuff you’ve been dealing with. You even form a connect ion with others in the process.

4    . It might seem nearly impossible to find something pleasant in a difficult situation, but it can be helpful. Maybe you’ll go through some personal growth and change because of what happened, or you’ll become closer to someone.

Change negative self-talk. It’s always too easy to think the same negative thoughts over and over again. However, you can learn to change this.     5    , replace it with a positive one. If you find yourself thinking “It’s all my fault” or “I’m not good enough”, stop and remind yourself of how well you’ve been dealing with problems and how others appreciate you.

We can’t change what happened to us or our beloved ones. We can change how we react to it.
