文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了在选择语言学习应用前需要考虑的几个因素。

1 . Apps are becoming increasingly popular nowadays, and for good reasons. They can help you out in just about every area of your life, like keeping fit, communicating with friends and even learning a language.     1     Here’s what you should think about before downloading an app for language learning.

    2

Any seasoned language learner will tell you that the beauty of mastering a foreign language is the world which it opens up to you. This is a world of diverse sources of information, from newspapers and books to TV, radio, music and even real people. Would you limit yourself to one medium in your native language? Probably not, so why do so in your new language?

Establish your purpose and plan your habits

Do you want to be fluent in weeks or are you in it for the brain training? The good apps are designed to help you arrange your studies around your timetable.     3     These apps encourage habit building, because the successful formation of a habit ensures your safe and regular return.

Make it social

4     I mean that you need to socialize for real. I owe the speed of progress I made in Italian to the support from Jim, my partner in study time. Find a friend to accompany you. Take an evening class. Borrow a book. Buy a book. Book a week away and attend a language school. Just don’t forget your phone!

If I may speak sincerely, the combination of apps, the language school, Jim, evenings out, and a choice book or two proved extremely effective.     5

A.I recommend it.
B.Learn from diverse sources.
C.Remember that an app is just a tool.
D.I don’t mean that you post your progress online.
E.I encourage you to use apps as often as you can.
F.The best apps adapt themselves according to your behavior.
G.However, you need to know how to use them properly to really benefit.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章讲述了许多人花多年学习一门语言却无法做到流利交流,他们想知道成为通晓多种语言的人的秘诀,于是作者弄清楚了一些学习外语的方法。

4 . I love learning foreign languages so much that I learn a new language every two years. When people find I’m a polyglot(通晓多种语言的人),they always ask me,“How do you do that?” Honestly, my answer will be, “I don’t know. I simply love learning languages.”     1     They want to know why they spend years learning even one language, never achieving fluency, and what’s the secret of being polyglots.

2     And what do we have in common? I decided to find that out. I went to several events where language lovers gather to practice their languages, asked dozens of polyglots about methods they use, and heard dozens of approaches. Everybody seems to have a unique way to speak several languages fluently.

3     All these polyglots talked about language learning as if it was great fun. They found ways to turn language learning from a boring subject into a pleasant daily activity. You should have seen their faces when they were showing me their colorful grammar charts and handmade flash cards.     4     The methods are various, but they make sure it’s something enjoyable.

I realized it’s actually how I learn.     5     Then interesting programs became my choice. So all is clear. If you don’t like writing words down on paper, type them in an app. If you’re a shy person, apply self-talk at home. This is how polyglots learn languages, and the best news is that it’s available to anyone willing to take the learning into their own hands.

A.How can those with little talent be fluent?
B.But people are never happy with the reply.
C.There’s no shortcut to learning languages for anyone.
D.One of them even made recipes in a foreign language.
E.That made me wonder, too, how other polyglots actually do it.
F.When learning Spanish last year, I was bored with textbooks.
G.Polyglots simply found ways to enjoy the language-learning process.

5 . If you live in a place where most people speak the language you are learning, you may use the language for several hours each day. But you may not have these chances to practice English. You may even be self-taught.    1    It is not very difficult, but it does take effort and practice.

Think in single words.

2    In your head, try to name each object in your surroundings. As you continue with this, it becomes more of a habit, so things are going to pop up into your head – computer, telephone, chair, and desk. Whatever it is, wherever you are. You can also do this at home when you wake up and before you go to sleep.

    3

Another exercise is describing in your mind objects you don't know the words for. An example would be if you couldn't think of the word “garage,” Hinshaw says. “If you're looking at your house and you see your garage, but you can't think of the name in English. You can say, 'The place inside where I put my car.”

Think in sentences.

The next exercise is thinking in simple sentences. For example, if you are sitting in a park, you can tell yourself things like, “It's such a beautiful day” and “People are playing sports with their friends.”    4

Describe your day.

Another exercise experts suggest is to describe your daily activities. You can mentally make plans in the morning when you wake up.     5    So the skill level is a little higher.

A.Describe unknown words.
B.Guess the meaning of a new word.
C.This would require future verb tenses.
D.A good first step is to think in individual words.
E.Hinshaw says doing this can help learners of any language.
F.Once this becomes easy, you can move on to more difficult sentences.
G.The good news is that thinking in English can bring you a huge step closer to fluency!
