6 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Freelancing is the kind of job that promises to free people from a regular nine-to-five employment to one where the hours are flexible. Such choice is a blessing for people who are held back by other demands but still want to earn an income or make good use of their skills. Freelancing means that there can be more than one source of income, often short-time assignments also known as “gigs”.

It is unsurprising that the conventional image of today’s freelancer is young, laptop-carrying citizens, hurrying for gigs in a shared workspace or coffee bar in an attempt to strike a better work-life balance for themselves. In fact, those in their 30s and 40s make up the largest amount of the freelancer population in the United States and other developed countries. The US is also seeing a rise in freelancing in the retirees. Such is the appeal of the gig economy, and it does not seem to be decreasing.

Is the gig industry truly all sunshine and rainbows, though? While such an industry appeals to many folks with different needs and wants, the lack of certainty makes working in the gig economy unstable. The absence of a steady source of income makes it difficult for people to cope with emergency. Not working permanently (长久地) for a company also means one does not get to enjoy the additional benefits, such as health-care welfare, typically afforded to a permanent employee.

Moreover, instability (不稳定性) leads to insecurity. As gigs vary and assignments may not occur frequently, it is difficult to plan for the future, highlighting one of the biggest problems of the gig economy: unreliability. When life, in this increasingly uncertain and complex world, lands you in trouble, it makes perfect sense to have a permanent job, to have a steady footing in order to deal with it.

In a word, there are many benefits that come with short-term employment and more flexible, convenient working arrangement. However, there are two sides to every story. The key here is to be the captain of one's ship and master of one's fate.

7 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Tourism can be both good and bad. Yes, it brings in money for the local economy and creates lots of jobs for locals, but it may also bring some problems.

One growing problem is tourists who want to prove that they have visited a destination. Tourists have used paint, rocks, or even keys to write on the Luxor Temple in Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, Stonehenge in the UK, memorial stones at the bottom of Qomolangma, and many, many other places. Thousands of tourist sites are being destroyed by tourists who “love them to death”.

Another big problem in some places has been tourists disturbing (打扰) the local people and life. Some tourists wander around and take pictures of local people without asking for their permission. For example, Chiang Mai University in Thailand and Yonsei University in South Korea have great numbers of tourists visiting their campuses and walking through their libraries and other public areas, taking pictures of students and disturbing their studies. Another example is Sanlitun, a neighbourhood in Beijing. China. Some tourists love to party there late into the night, making it difficult for locals to sleep.

The number of problems from tourists is endless: walking in large groups without considering others who need to walk by, crossing roads without thinking of local traffic laws, and many more. The only way to solve the problem of the terrible tourist is to make sure that you are not one! Be the best, kindest, most polite tourist possible.

8 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

65-year-old Richard Oslen was interested in adventure and hunting. This time he hunted on a land near Watford City, N.D.. In the cold winter, he set out to try a new place. He didn’t take his cell phone, thinking that it was not a must. He walked more than half a mile with two dogs to a wheat field.

Keeping an eye open for a bird taking flight, Richard stepped on a thin crust of ice on a river. The ice broke into pieces and dropped him four feet to the bottom.

Realizing that he was in trouble and was going to hurt himself, Richard decided to come to land quickly. However, his left leg was hurt, so he had to reach for his shotgun, unload it and use it as a crutch(拐杖). When he was partly up, he lost his balance and fell into the river again. This time one of his feet got stuck between two rocks. Richard told himself that if he didn't get himself out of that river, he wasn't going to have a very good night.

Richard managed to make his foot free and climbed more slowly and carefully. Richard suddenly realized the difficulty of the task before him.The accident happened at about 2 p.m., and it was almost 5 p.m. with the road far away as the sun was setting.

Although Richard met with many difficulties, he didn't give up. He was stubborn and sure that he must be persistent. With his gun's support, he tried jumping with his right leg. Once, twice, … he failed again and again, feeling extremely tired. After a longer break, he made a desperate attempt. Luckily, he managed to climb out of the river and lay on the land, gasping. Temperatures dropped, and his hands and feet soon were completely numb with cold.

Paragraph 1:

Richard' s dogs had been playing in the field and finally came up to him.

10 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Once upon a time, eating alone was just that: sitting down in a restaurant on one’s own and eating a meal. Everyone did it sometimes, and when they did so they might be a little embarrassed. To eat alone might suggest that you didn’t have any family or friends, or didn’t like people. There was a kind of shame attached to it. Nowadays, however, there is more and more solitary(独自的) eating.

People choose to eat alone for various reasons. “Foodies”—people who have a passionate interest in different cuisines(美食)—do it because all they need for their pleasure is the chance to eat good food. They don’t want company or conversation, but only the joy of eating some special dish.

Other people eat alone because it’s simply practical for them to do so. For instance, it’s estimated that nearly a third of all the customers of fast-food restaurants eat alone. They are served with their food fast, eat it fast and then leave fast—because they have a meeting to make or a child to pick up from school.

But for others, the appeal of eating alone is quite different. It’s an experience of freedom. For the hour that it takes to have a meal, they can forget all the pressures of their lives. For a brief window, they don’t have to deal with their family or job. They can relax and let their mind wander. Maybe they will bring a book, a newspaper or perhaps they will shyly spy on the people around them. Part of the appeal of this new trend is surely that a meal taken alone is like a little holiday from the busyness of modern life, in which we have so much to do all the time. David Annand, editor of US-based Conde Nast Traveler magazine, who delights in dining alone, speaks of his pleasure in the “rhythm of a meal in a restaurant—its ebb and flow(人来人往), the regular arrival and departure of the waiter.” This restaurant rhythm allows him and others, he writes, to sit back, observe, and think.
