Complaints and Appeals
UNSW Global is committed to delivering a high standard of education and training services to all of its students. One way that UNSW Global fulfills this commitment is by ensuring that all students, both domestic and international, have access to a forcefully-expressed and fair complaints and appeals process. The process for how complaints and appeals are dealt with under the Complaints and Appeals Policy, is extracted below.

•teacher quality feedback
•class and timetabling changes

1. Complete a Stage 2: Formal Review Form and email it to complainsndconduct @unswglobal. unsw. edu.au. Hardcopy forms are also available from, and may be submitted to the Student Services Center.
2. Lodge the Stage 2: Format Review Form within 10 working days of the issue arising or receiving a response to your Stage 1: Informal Complaint.
We will:
1. Refer your complaint to the appropriate person for investigation and resolution.
2. Acknowledge your complaint within in working days of receiving your Stage 2: Formal Review Form and, in some cases, contact you to arrange an interview.
3. Send you a written statement of the outcome of your complaint, including the reasons for the outcome, within 10 working days of the acknowledgement of your complaint, or of any interview conducted.
Examples include:
•bullying and harassment
•decision to cancel enrolment
•refusal to issue a refund
•refusal to allow leave of absence
Stage 3: External Appeal Process
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of a Stage 2: Formal Review Process, you may refer the case to an external body for an independent review (see section 9 of the Complaints and Appeals Policy).
If you start with an external appeal, so that your enrolment can be maintained during the appeal process, you must inform us in writing by emailing complainsandconduct @ unswglobal. unsw edu.au.

I looked around at the graduating class of our small Christian school and wondered how we had grown up so fast. After that weekend we would go our separate ways. Many planned on attending college far away, as I did. Others had jobs lined up and few were thinking about marriage.
Directly in front of me was a friend I’d known for six years; we had been on many adventures together. He grinned, looking a little smug(洋洋得意的). He and a couple of students had played one last triok before they graduated: The night before, they’d slipped into the principal’s home and used rolls of toilet paper to decorate his house and yard. I eyed the principal on the stage. He gave no indication that anything was wrong.
We moved slowly up in line. My friend walked across the stage and received his diploma. Then my name was called. I took a deep breath, nervously climbed the steps, crossed the stage under the hot lights and stopped in front of the principal. He gave me a big smile, shook my hand and handed me my diploma. I couldn’t wait to open the diploma case and find my name, certifying that I had graduated. However, when my friend opened his case, we all burst out laughing. Instead of a diploma, a single square of toilet paper was placed inside.
Our high school principal had a great sense of humor and took this opportunity to play a trick back on the boys. I thought they were required to clean his house and yard, but they got off easily. They were allowed to graduate.
Sometimes we get lucky when we do something wrong. However, sometimes we don’t. I often wonder how those who do wrong things get rid of troubles. We have decisions to make throughout our lives. The surest way to stay out of trouble is to avoid it in the first place.

Located in a home built in 1896 in Florida, US, the program serves students in grades 2 through 12 and will accept kindergarten students next year. It also offers an after-school program for students who attend traditional schools, as well as evening programs for adults and educators and weekend events for families.
There is a different atmosphere from that of a traditional school building. Tables and brightly colored walls are white boards. In the science room, students are studying climate changes at a weather station, while in the music room, a student is solving an equation (等式) with his academic coach while he connects music theory and maths.
The daily schedule at the school also stands out. “ We don’t assign boring or exhausting homework.” said Space of Mind founder and CEO Ali Kaufman. “ Instead of homework, we ask that they go home and take a video of themselves applying a lesson they learned or cooking a meal for their family that they learned how to make at school.”
For lunch, instead of traditional cafeteria dishes such as pizza, the school offers organic meals made out of products from local gardens and farms. “ Our students also run a business at the Delray Beach Green Market on Saturdays so they can understand sustainable living practices and how to run a business,” Kafman said.
“ We are also the first school program in Florida to start and end each day with 15 minutes of meditation (冥想),” Kaufman said. “ The positive results we have been seeing in the students from meditation are amazing. We are really about infusing social, emotional and creative skills with academic and life skills.”

But in early June of senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I was surprised to look at him, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work? I murmured something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have broken up my perfect record.
I finally agreed to a compromise. I would share the honor with five other students. I agreed to introduce my friend Judy, who would then give her own, full-length speech.
Graduation day soon arrived, I’d been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came. My name was announced. I managed to reach the stage without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and heading back to my seat. I accomplished something I’d never dreamed of — I spoke in front of hundreds of people.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to take part in class at college, to give oral reports, and to eventually break free of my shyness. I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation — or ever. But I’m glad I did. I no longer hesitate when I’m faced with the prospect of doing something I feared. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.

【推荐2】Persuasion is to convince someone to agree with you, just like art which also calls for special techniques to accomplish. According to the ancient Greeks, there are three basic tools of persuasion: ethos, pathos and logos.
Ethos is a speaker’s way of convincing the audience that he is trustworthy, honest and reliable. One common way a speaker can develop ethos is by explaining how much experience or education he has in the field. After all, you’re more likely to listen to advice about how to take care of your teeth from a dentist than a fireman.
Pathos is a speaker’s way of connecting with an audience’s emotions. For example, a politician who is trying to convince an audience to vote for him might say that he alone can save the country from a terrible war. These words are intended to fill the audience with fear, thus making them want to vote for him. Similarly, an animal charity might show an audience pictures of injured dogs and cats to make the viewers feel pity, so they will be more likely to donate money.
Logos is the use of facts, statistics or other evidence to support your argument. An audience will believe you if you have convincing data to back up your claims. Presenting this evidence is much more persuasive than simply saying “believe me”.
Although ethos, pathos and logos all have their strengths, they are often most effective when used together. So, the next time you listen to a speech, watch a commercial or listen to a friend try to convince you to lend him some money, be on the lookout for these ancient Greek tools of persuasion.
1. What is the purpose of persuasion?A.To advise somebody to support you. |
B.To help someone have special skills. |
C.To convince somebody to realize his aim. |
D.To talk someone into being honest. |

C.Both make the audience support them. |
D.Both persuade people to donate money. |

In South Korea, a nation more used to holding back its emotions, at least one hospital is encouraging patients to let loose on their regular basis.
Laughing, for those cancer patients and their families, is a weekly exercise at Seoul National University hospital. It is something that does not come easy for them, but an hour of laughter therapy (疗法) is all it takes to fight depression that often follows chemical treatment. Lim Song Li, a therapist at the hospital, was once a depression patient herself. She now is a laughter therapist and says when you laugh, blood vessels expand, and sugar levels drop, producing an abundance of hormones (激素)linked with happiness and pleasure. But in Korean culture, where Confucian tradition dominates(主导)social behavior, laughing is not a nature thing. Korean men are taught not to cry more than three times in their lifetime. And the sound of a Korean woman's laughter should not be heard outside the fence of her home. But inside this hospital, they are letting it out. By the end of the session, they make belief laughs somehow become their own.
If laughing requires effort, more natural to Koreans, it is singing. The sing-song star therapist, famous for her therapy sessions to fight housewife depression,Jeong Ji Song says singing is an easier way to express inner feelings, especially for Korean women brought up in the conservative background. For some, these classes can be a stress-management tool, but for many more who suffer from depression, learning to sing out their heart can be a healing process.
It not only helped Ying Seung Woo come out of severe depression, but also presented her with a new career. After taking up singing therapy, she found a talent in herself-cheer-leading. And now she is taking courses to become a certified therapist.
