Many people like sweet food. And being an Indian, sweet is what we all fall in love with every day. According to a study, 30 grams of sugar is enough for us every day.     1     Though sugar can provide you with a short-term pleasure or delight, it’s taking a healthy hour from your life. Here are the reasons why sugar cannot be a part of your healthy hour and avoiding it can keep you healthy.

2     With high consumption of sugar, you start storing fat in your body. With eating extra sugar, you are unable to store nutritious food, which can lead to a start of unhealthy lifestyle. Brain needs only minimum amount of sugar for functioning.     3     As we know, cancer cells are fond of sugar, which can even break down your immune system. Therefore, sugar plays a great role in the loss of your health.

These are the changes in the inner body, and outside it can raise the bacteria in teeth, thus ruining your white teeth.     4     Eating large amount of it can result in wrinkles(皱纹) on your face. Sugar is really not sweet as you think.

So, next time you have desire for some sugary food, stop and think. Do you really want to change your healthy hour into an unhealthy hour? The healthy life isn’t far away. Eat less sugar and good changes are coming in your way.     5

A.Sugar can result in overweight.

【推荐2】Healthy eating may offer young children an unexpected gift—it might help them become better readers.

Researchers in Finland found students' reading skills improved more between first grade and third grade if they didn't eat a lot of sugary foods or red meat, and if their diet consisted mainly of vegetables, berries and other fruits, as well as fish, whole grains and unsaturated(不饱和的) fats.

The researchers observed 161 Finnish students. They were between the ages of 6 and 8(first grade to third grade). The researchers reviewed the children's diets and their reading ability using food diaries and standardized reading tests. A healthier diet was associated with better reading skills by third grade, regardless of how well the students could read in first grade, the researchers said.

“Another significant observation is that the associations of diet quality with reading skills were also independent of many other factors, such as socioeconomic status, physical activity, body fat and physical fitness,” said Eero Haapala, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Jyvaskyla.

Does that mean parents of picky eaters should be concerned about their child’s reading abilities? Not necessarily. Although this study found an association between the foods young children ate and their reading skills, it didn't prove cause-and-effect. Still, the researchers said parents, schools, governments and corporations all have an opportunity to enhance academic performance in schools by making healthy foods more available to children.

1. In which aspect do children benefit from healthy diet?
A.Building self-confidence.B.Developing reading skills.
C.Gaining high grades.D.Having physical activity.
2. What did the researchers take into consideration when observing the children?
A.The differences of grades.B.The amount of sugar and meat.
C.The performance in first grade.D.Food diaries and reading abilities.
3. What do we know about picky eaters?
A.Their parents should be worried.B.Their reading abilities are uncertain.
C.Their diet is likely to have much sugar.D.Their performance in school is unsatisfied.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.A mathematical method.B.A postdoctoral researcher.
C.A scientific study.D.A learning program.

【推荐3】This time of year many of us are determined to get back into shape. But if you are having trouble fitting into your tight jeans, it may not be your fault. Scientists now believe that willpower alone is not enough to lose weight. They say success depends on your genes, hormones (荷尔蒙) and psychology.

A study of 75 people by BBC Science and Oxford and Cambridge Universities has looked into why one-size-fits-all diets are often not successful. The scientists divided over-eaters into three groups—people who feast, people who constantly crave food and emotional eaters. They tailored (定制) diets to the needs of each group.

Feasters can’t stop eating once they start. This is because they don’t have the hormones that tell them when they are full. Scientists designed a diet for this group paying special attention to high protein foods that make them feel full for a long time. This included fish, chicken, basmati rice and grains. Bread and potatoes were not allowed because they do not fill you up for long.

Constant cravers always feel hungry. Scientists say that certain genes stop the messages the stomach sends to the brain saying it is full, meaning the cravers always feel like they need more fatty, sugary food. Dieting seven days a week is very hard for these people, so scientists put them on a normal, healthy diet five days a week, and eating whenever they feel stressed. To help them change this behaviour, scientists offered them group support in meetings and online as well as a diet.

During the study, people from all three groups lost weight on the tailored diets, with feasters losing the most and constant cravers losing the least.

So what about you? If any of the eating habits sound familiar, perhaps you should consider a new approach to slimming for now.

C.Emotional eaters are more likely to lose weight than constant cravers.
D.Scientists will find one-size-fits-all diets for those who want to lose weight.
3. The passage is mainly about______.
A.Three factors that determine our success in getting back into shape.
B.Three approaches to losing weight according to eating habits.
