Vacationers traditionally like to make use of every second of the day, People rush from site to site, eat all day, and feel tired at last. And when they get to their hotel room at night, they find it hard to sleep. Noisy traffic and flashing city lights aside, many people simply don’t sleep well when they’re away from their own bed. Fortunately, sleep tourism addresses these issues and more.
In order to help them sleep well, special sleep suites (套房) have been thoughtfully designed to offer quiet and darkness. Hotels are investing in artificial intelligence mattresses (床垫) that control climate and have cushions to relieve pressure points. The mattresses can also track sleep statistics and offer vacationers feedback on their sleep patterns.
Some feel that these sleep suites are a result of the problem that many people suffered from a loss of good sleep. “There has been heightened attention to sleep during that time, and likely, because so many people have struggled with this. Now, I think there’s just been a huge shift in our awareness and prioritization on wellness and wellbeing,” said sleep researcher Dr. Robbins.
Sleep suites are a huge advance in tourism and are now found in wellness hotels worldwide. Each offers different ways of helping tour its sleep. Many provide a menu of relaxing teas and a comfortable bed. You can even devote your trip to sleep wellness. Some spa hotels offer a lounger with headphones and mask, and energy healing.
No matter which sleep suite you choose, the goal is to sleep well so you can improve your health and wellbeing. Sinking into a comfortable bed should be the best part of a trip! The hope is that more hotels adapt to this wellness trend and return to the original purpose of a hotel room, which is sleep! Now you can tour around by day and have sweet dreams by night.

There are some aspects (方面) of our unhealthy lives that we cannot avoid. I am thinking of such features of modern city life as pollution, noise, rushed meals and stress. But keeping fit is a way to reduce the effects of these evils. The usual suggestion to a person who is looking for a way to keep fit is to take up some sport or other. While it is true that every weekend you will find people playing football and hockey in the local park, they are outnumbered a hundred to one by the people who are simply watching them.
For those who do not particularly enjoy competitive sports—and it is especially difficult to do so if you are not good at them—there are such separate activities as cycling, walking, jogging and swimming. What often happens though is that you do them in such a leisurely way, so slowly, that it is doubtful if you are doing yourself much good, except for the fact that you have at least managed to get up out of your armchair.
Even after you have found a way for keeping in shape, through sport or gymnastics, you are still only half way to good health, because, according to the experts, you must also master the art of complete mental and physical relaxation. It has to do with deep breathing, emptying your mind of all thoughts, meditation, and so on. Yoga, as practiced in the West, is the most widely known and popular of the systems for achieving the necessary state of relaxation. It seems ironical (讽刺性的), though, that as our lives have improved in a material sense we have found it increasingly necessary to go back to forms of activity—physical effort on the one hand and relaxation on the other—which were the natural way of life of our forefathers.

The best time to deal with worrying is during the day when you have important things to do and don’t have time to get caught up in mental cycles for hours and hours.
Worry early.
Set aside 15 minutes during the mid—to late—afternoon just for yourself. Once the timer starts, give yourself the freedom to worry about one topic at a time. Think of it as a to—do list that you go through one by one, except what you’re checking off are topics you feel the most anxious about.
If you find yourself worrying during the day, tell yourself: “Look, I just need to put off this to the next emotional worry time.”
Practice helpful worrying.
On a piece of paper, create two columns labeled as “Problem” and “Solution”. Come up with a short list of current problems you’re dealing with. Focus in particular on what you’re likely to ruminate about tonight.
Then fold the paper up and put it next to your bed. Say to yourself, “I have a plan.”
A.There’s no magic switch to completely turn off rumination. |
B.Like eating, drinking and breathing, we need sleep to survive. |
C.Make sure you don’t get distracted by anything or anyone else. |
D.Use this same technique if your worries pop up again at bedtime. |
E.It turns out that you’ve already spent focused energy on these problems. |
F.Here are two ways to stop ruminating at night and they only take 15 minutes to do. |
G.Under “Solutions”, come up with the next one or two steps you could take to deal with each problem. |

How long is the Camino de Santiago? That depends. Some take on the all-Spanish 1,000 km Via de la Plata route from Seville to Santiago to Compostela, while the most popular route, from Saint Jean Pied de Port in France—sometimes called the Camino Francés or French Way—is 790km.
A popular 116 km hike, ideal for 10 days of leisurely walking, is known as the English Way—not because English Christians prefer camping and pub stops to walking, but because it is believed the route, from Ferrol on the Galician Coast, was used by pilgrims (朝圣者) arriving from Britain and Ireland. The English Way starts with coastal views and passes through the small towns of Pontedeume and Betanzos, and lots of wooded and agricultural areas.
Top Tip
With a Pilgrim’s Credential, you qualify for lodgings (住宿), which have bunk beds (双层床铺) and shared facilities and cost from just £5—6 a night.
When to Go
This part of Spain has relatively mild weather year round. March to October are likely to be best for sunshine, but rain is always possible here.
Do It Yourself
Fly with Vueling(vueling.com)from London Gatwick to A Coruña, with returns £100, or take a boat from Plymouth to Santander(£150 return).
A Coruña to Ferrol by train takes an hour and 10 minutes and costs £5.5.

After four years of planning and careful consideration of the environmental issues, construction started in 2001. Dutch engineers with experience of reclaiming land from the sea were employed in the building of the first two islands. The site for all three islands is an area of the sea where the water is not very deep. Sand is taken from the seabed and sprayed into the construction site. Although the shallow water facilitates this process, the islands are still very exposed to the currents and tidal movements of the sea. Rocks are used to hold the sand in place resulting in a large crescent (月状的) structure. This acts as a breakwater and protects the islands from the sea.
The first two islands are in the shape of date palm trees and consist of a trunk and 17 frond, or leaves coming off the trunk. The first island, named Palm Jumeirah, has three five-star hotels in the trunk, and luxury homes in the leaves. It is astonishing that when these homes went on sale in 2004, they were all sold within three days.
The second palm, Jebel Ali, was started in 2002 and is designed to be an entertainment centre. Six marinas (小游艇船坞) are planned, with a water theme park, and homes built on stilts (桩柱) in the water.
The Palm Deira planned to be the largest of the three islands, with a length of 14 km and a width of 8.5 km, an area larger than the city of Paris. It will consist of residential properties, marinas, shopping malls, sports facilities, and clubs. These will be open to both residents and tourists.
More artificial islands, the World Islands, are now being constructed near the Palm Jumeirah. They consist of 300 private islands grouped into the shape of the continents of the world and will be used for estates, private homes, community islands, and resorts.
Unquestionably, these artificial islands are one of the wonders of the modern world. They will also maintain Dubai’s status as one of the leading tourist destinations in the region.

Social media shows the smiling volunteers coming from the cave to a round of applause while wearing special sunglasses to protect their eyes after so long in the dark.
Researchers at the Human Adaption Institute monitored the volunteers closely during their time in the cave. They would regularly check the team's sleeping patterns, social activities, and cognitive(认知的)functions.
During their time in the cave, the volunteers had no communication with the outside world. They slept in tents and made their own electricity with a pedal bike since there was no natural light. They also drew water from a well 146 feet below the earth. Since there was no sunlight, the team had to follow their biological clocks to know when to sleep, eat, or do daily tasks.
All he volunteers were interviewed after the experiment. Christian said he thought he had been underground for 23 days because of losing his sense of time. Another volunteer, Johan, said he was eager to leave the cave. But most of other volunteers felt differently, with two thirds saying they wanted to stay in the cave for longer. “For once in our lives, we had time and could stop to live and do our tasks. It was great.” said Marina. However, Marina did admit that she felt happy to be outdoors and hear natural sounds again.
The researchers behind the project say their next step will be doing more experiments to find out how people can adapt to various extreme living conditions. With our planet's environment being destroyed, we have to find ways to adapt to it. Then we will have a better chance to survive in our future planet or other planets, whether they are similar to ours or not.
1. Why did the volunteers wear sunglasses when coming out of the cave?A.To allow their eyes to return to normal. |

In fact, only 14% of plastic packaging is collected for recycling, one reason for which is that not all plastic can be recycled, sometimes because of the type of plastic, or because it’s polluted by food waste. Most plastic is burned, thrown into a landfill (垃圾填埋场), or spread around the natural environment.
Experts say companies should replace single-use containers with ones that can be used over and over. They could be metal or glass and be refilled at a store, by a company, or at home. Reuse, as well as removal of a lot of packaging we don't need, will also have to be a key part of the solution.
Several global companies have tested reusable packaging. But the effect of these programs was small at the beginning. As of 2019, less than 2% of the plastic packaging from dozens of companies was reusable. But the circular-economy (循环经济) movement has been gaining steam. In the United States, the reusable-packaging market for beauty and personal-care products grew by about 65% from June 2020 to May 2021.
Can reusable packaging help us save the environment? There’s a “payback” period with any reusable item. That’s the number of times it must be reused before it’s actually better for the environment than the single-use ones. Think about reusable sandwich packaging. The energy and resources needed to make and wash it are far more than what goes into making single-use bags. But reusable bottles could pay off.
What customers do is also important. If someone buys a metal shampoo bottle, gets lazy, and throws it into the garbage instead of refilling it, that might be worse for the environment than a single-use bottle. That’s because it took more energy to make the reusable metal bottle.
For a reuse program to work, experts say simple is best. One company experimenting with reusable packaging is Loop. Loop used to sell its products online, and customers sent empty containers back for a refill. The company has switched to stores to make the process easier. Customers return their bottles in person instead of having to mail them back to Loop.

In April 2019, Science posted an article that details how various horses and donkeys had been seen digging wells up to six feet deep to try and reach fresh water when they were miles away from the nearest natural source. Apparently, they use their hooves (蹄) to dig into the ground until they have enough water. They were found doing so at one site in Mojave Desert, California, and four different sites in the Sonoran Desert, Arizona.
Scientists quickly set up cameras to watch the area and noticed that as many as 57 species visited the well to drink. Most of them were different types of birds, including Cooper’s hawks, owls, and red-tailed hawks. They were not alone. American badgers and even black bears were seen drinking from the new wells too. It seems that many of the wells became an oasis (绿洲) for those in the surrounding areas as the likes of river toads, sheep, and mule deer all moved into the area.
It seems the wild donkeys and horses that dig wells have done a lot more than create a place to drink; they have changed the local environment now that everything has access to fresh water. Cottonwoods and willows quickly started to appear in some of the spots as they germinated (发芽) in the fresh soil. Not only has this changed the landscape, but it could be the difference needed to bring some of the endangered and critical desert trees back from the edge. Scientists have called it “ecosystem engineering”, an event that sees animals change their environment. The most well- known example of this has often come in the form of beavers (an animal), who create dams that prevent wildfires, raise the water table, and enhance species diversity. Now, it seems the wild donkeys and horses have found a new way to improve their areas, too.
