That is why doctors advise if we have to use a computer for a long time, we should take a short break every fifteen or thirty minutes.

Keeping good eyesight is important. If we do these few simple things,we can protect our eyes and reduce the chances of losing our eyes. As a popular English saying goes,"It's all fun and game, until someone loses an eye. " When people say this, they mean that losing an eye is a very terrible thing.

It was a cold winter day. A woman drove up to the Rainbow Bridge tollbooth (收费站). “I’m paying for myself, and for the six cars behind me,”she said with a smile, handing over seven tickets. One after another, the next six drivers arriving at the tollbooth were informed, “ A lady has already paid for your fare.”

It turned out（证明） that the woman, Natalie Smith, had read something on a friend’s refrigerator: “Practice random(随机的） kindness and senseless（无意识的） acts of beauty.” The phrase impressed her so much that she copied it down.

Judy Foreman spotted （认出）the same phrase on a warehouse（仓库） wall far away from home. When it stayed on her mind for days, she gave up and drove all the way back to copy it down. “I thought it was beautiful,”she said. Then she wrote it at the bottom of all her letters.   Her husband, Frank, liked the phrase so much that he put it up on the classroom wall for his students, one of whom was the daughter of Alice Johnson, a local news reporter. Alice put it in the newspaper, admitting（承认） that though she liked it, she didn’t know where it came from or what it really meant.

Two days later, Alice got a call from Anne Herbert, a woman living in Marin. It was in a restaurant that Anne wrote the phrase down on a piece of paper first, after thinking about it in her mind for days.

“Here’s the idea,” Anne says. “Anything you think there should be more of, do it randomly.” Her fantasies（想象） include painting the classrooms of shabby（破旧的） schools, leaving hot   meals on kitchen tables in the poor part of town, and giving money secretly to a proud old lady. Anne says, “Kindness can build on itself as much as violence can.”

The acts of random kindness spread. If you were one of those drivers who found your fare paid, who knows what you might have been inspired to do for someone else later. Like all great events, kindness begins slowly, with every single act. Let it be yours!

There was a farm, where lived Farmer John with his wife Molly. They raised a pig, a cow and many other animals on their farm. Also there lived a little mouse.

One day John came back with a bag. From the bag, John took out a mousetrap and set it. When the mouse saw this, it ran away in fear and decided to run around the farmyard to warn all its animal friends.

First it met the chicken. "There is a mousetrap on the farm!" The mouse said in fear. But the chicken answered peacefully, "There is nothing to do with me. This is a danger for you, not for me." Then the mouse rushed to the pig and the cow to tell them about mousetrap. But they showed no worry about it, either. Sad and depressed, the little mouse returned to the house.

On that night, Molly heard a sound of the mousetrap. She hurried to see what was in it, but because of the darkness, she did not see that it was a poisonous snake, caught in the trap by the tail. Unluckily the snake bit Molly. John drove her to the hospital at once. Later, when they returned home, Molly still had a fever. John remembered that chicken soup was good for a fever, so he went to his farmyard to bring the chicken. Molly's sickness continued and many friends came to visit her, the farmer killed the pig so he could treat all the visitors.

Unfortunately, Molly became weaker and weaker and one day she died. Many neighbors, relatives and friends arrived for the funeral . John had to kill the cow to treat all of them.

The mouse watched all that happened with great sadness.

The earth is about 4, 600 million years old. We humans have lived on the earth for only 35, 000 years, but during this period we have changed our planet a lot in many ways.     36    

All over the world people have cut down millions of trees, so more and more kinds of animals and plants are disappearing. In big cities, cars and buses have polluted the air. Factories have also polluted the land and the water.

    37     It is important to the earth. But now air pollution is destroying it and that has made a very big hole in the ozone layer（臭氧层）.    38     This is very dangerous because it can cause cancer.

Carbon dioxide （CO₂） in the air has increased a lot.     39     It has formed a"blanket （毛毯）”around the earth.     40     This makes our earth become warmer and warmer. Therefore this causes the level of the ocean to rise.

All these problems are very serious. We must do something to stop our earth from being polluted anymore.

(1) In the United States people sometimes go camping for vacation. Instead of staying at modern hotels and restaurants, they live in the woods and do everything for themselves for a few days to relax.

When you are camping，you make all of your own food. It is rather like a large picnic. Barbecues(烤肉架) are very common while camping. You can bring meat and vegetables to the camp. To make a fire, you can find or bring your own wood and light it with a lighter(打火机). (2) Remember to put stones around the fire so that it won't get too big or dangerous! When the fire is ready, you can cook food over it. Besides meat and vegetables，you can also cook marshmallows(果酱软糖) with the fire.

Children really like this activity at night. The whole family sit around the fire, eat marshmallows，and drink hot chocolate—especially when it is cold outside! Everyone can sing camping songs and dance together.

Camping is a fun activity for the family to do. Vacation does not have to go to faraway places，it could be as simple as putting up a tent in a nearby forest!

Car Free Day encourages drivers to give up their cars for a day to protect the environment. People from around the world get together in the streets to remind the world that we don't have to accept the society full of cars.

It was first started by 35 cities in France and September 22 is Car Free Day. The first Car Free Day in China was in Chengdu in 2001. The slogan for the day is "If we drive for one less day, we can have one more nice day. "

Organized activities are held in many cities on Car Free Day. In Brussels,Car Free Day shall be valid （有效的）for everybody except persons with a special permit （许可证） , but they have to （2） slow down to the speed of 30 kilometers per hour, The public transportation is free on that day. In London, they have special green areas" . Walking, biking, and public transportation are encouraged. The streets are open only to walkers, bicycles and buses from 7:00 a. m. to 7:00 p. m. In Beijing, it asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. More and more people are joining in the activity. In the first quarter of this year, Beijing only had 52 blue sky days, and you may see haze （雾霾）almost every day! We must do more for Car Free Day as a Beijing driver said, “We may not change the weather，but we can choose not to drive. "

But we do not want just one day and then a return to "normal"life. We should go on with Car Free Day.
