Which of your hands do you use often? A few of us use both our hands well. Most of us are right-handed. Only about five people out of a hundred are left-handed. New-born babies can take things with either of their hands, but after about two years, they like to use their right hands. Scientists don't know why this happen. They have studied it.
They think our animals ancestors (祖先) were right-handed, but this may not be true. Monkeys are our closest relations in the animal world. Scientists have found that monkeys like to use one of their hands more often than the other one, but it can be either hand. Next time you visit a zoo, watch the monkeys carefully, you'll see that some of them use their right hands, while others use their left hands. But men use their right hands better, and this makes life difficult for the left-handed ones. We live in a right-handed world.

The University of Minnesota recently studied emissions(排放物)from different cars. The scientists found that sometimes, electric cars are more harmful than petrol(汽油)cars.
Surprising? Well, please pay attention to the word “sometimes”. Electric cars are supposed to be clean. The problem lies in the power that is used to charge(充电)them. If the power comes from wind or solar energy, electric cars will cause little pollution. However, if the power is produced from coal, they will be very harmful. According to the study, emissions from these cars kill about 3, 000 people a year. However, pollution caused by petrol cars only leads to 880 deaths a year.
In fact, sales people are not lying when they say electric cars are clean. However, they are right only when the power used to charge their cars is also clean.
So how clean electric cars are depends on what its electricity comes from. In France, more than half of the power comes from nuclear stations. Electric cars there should be as clean as they are marketed(推销)to be. In many developing countries, however, electricity still mainly comes from coal. India, for example, depends on coal for 61 percent of its power. Only two percent of its electricity comes from nuclear energy. In countries like India, electric cars are not clean at all!

While Shiny's great grandfather went to sleep during the race, Smily's great grandfather won the race by slowly walking towards the finish line.

In some cities the rubbish is collected and taken outside of city to a dump (垃圾场). Often the city dump is placed where the ground is low or there is a big hole. The kitchen rubbish is broken into small pieces and sent into thesewagesystem (系统). The sewage system takes away the used water from toilets, bathtubs (浴缸) and other places.
To keep mice and flies away, some earth is used to cover the newly dumped rubbish. Later, grass may be planted on the rubbish-filled land. Finally, a house or a school may be built there, and then you'd never know that this had once been an old rubbish dump.
In other cities the rubbish is burnt in special places. The fire burns everything except the metal. Sometimes the metal can be used again in factories where things are made of metal.
