We visited Hallstatt on a Monday in August. Hallstatt is a small but beautiful town in Austria(奥地利). It was once a quiet place with few European(欧洲的) visitors. However, in recent(近来的) years, Hallstatt becomes one of the most popular places in Austria. The town has fewer than 1,000 people, but 80,000 visitors come here every year.
However, years ago, it was most famous(著名的) for the salt(盐) mountain. Salt was quite precious, so this town was quite rich. In Hallstatt, people can visit one of these salt mountains.
We walked across the town and enjoyed the beautiful views(风景). The houses and hotels were very beautiful. We loved cute towns, so we spent most of our time here.
We also visited the Alps, because it was just a few minutes’ walk from Hallstatt to the Alps. This is a great place to go climbing, try paragliding, visit the Giant Ice Cave, enjoy beautiful views across the Alps, and even keep away from those Hallstatt crowds(人群). We spent just a few hours here. We hoped to have more fun next time!

On weekdays the Park wasn’t at all crowded and I am sure that the rain on Monday stopped people from visiting the Park—but not us! We bought a Disney raincoat at HK $45 for our son.
The Park is beautiful. It was perfect for our kids as the rides weren’t too scary and there was hardly any waiting time.
Because we lived at the Disneyland Hotel, they gave us an extra day when buying a one-day ticket.
On the 1st day we arrived at the Park at about 2 p.m., met Minnie and Mickey, rode space Mountain and experienced Tomorrow Land before watching the Lion King Show. We stayed until the Fireworks(焰火)over Cinderella’s Castle at 8 p.m. The following day was spent visiting our favorite rides again, watching the Disney Parade and High School Musical Performances, and after my husband and son went back to the hotel, my daughter and I stayed to meet all the Princesses.
My husband and I thought the visit to Disneyland would please the children and provide them with a highlight(精彩部分)on our 2-week holiday. As adults we both enjoyed Disneyland and had great fun.

Brazil is the biggest country with the largest population in South America. It is one of the world’s rising powers.
Brazil has been a big farming country for the last 10 years. It produces a third of all coffee in the world, which makes the country the biggest coffee producer in the world.
In Brazil, soccer is the most popular sport. Brazilians are soccer crazy, and their country has some of the best players. The most famous of all is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele. Brazil has won the World Cup five times, more than any other nation.
Tourism is also important in Brazil. In 2010, the number of foreign visitors to Brazil reached more than 5 million, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
What makes millions of visitors come here? The beautiful landscape may be the answer. The world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon Rainforest, covers about half of Brazil. It is home to hundreds of thousands of animal species. The great Iguazu Falls are made up of 275 to 350 waterfalls. Sometimes, rainbows will show up, with butterflies flying high in the sky. Can you imagine how beautiful it is?
The unique landscape gives its people special characteristics. Brazilians are hospitable and friendly. A man may kiss a woman on both cheeks when they first meet. Although most Brazilians are from different races(种族), including Amerindians, Europeans, and Africans, they get along well with each other.
It’s the different races that offer Brazil a very rich culture. From samba and carnivals to food and music. African culture is everywhere in Brazil. Brazilians are famous for being fun, easygoing and yes, exciting. Nothing can prove this more than a carnival. The event that’s celebrated in Rio de Janeiro is described as the “world’s biggest party”. It is held for four days in February or March every year. Everyone dresses in costurnes and parades through the city. They play musical instruments and dance.
However, Brazil also has its problems. Transportation is a nightmare, especially in big cities. By hosting the world’s two biggest sporting events—the World Cup in 2014 and the 2016 Olympic Games—the country has improved quickly.

When the problem got worse, we took her from doctor to doctor. During the treatment, Kendall continued to sing. Surprisingly, her tics disappeared when she sang. When Kendall was sixteen, we thought she would be cured soon. However, a terrible thing happened.
At a party, Kendall jumped on a friend for a piggyback ride. He bent lower than she expected, and she jumped higher than he expected. Kendall flew over his back and landed on the floor — on her neck. She was rushed to hospital, paralyzed from the neck down. She couldn’t move. But her biggest worry wasn’t whether she would walk again, but was whether she could try out for a show called American Idol.
As the days went on, feeling on her left side returned, but she was still paralyzed on the right. We weren’t sure how much of her movement would come back. A friend brought a microphone and put it on her bed. Every day, Kendall tried hard to pick it up. It was more important for her to pick up that microphone than a spoon or fork.
Sometimes she had to bite a toothbrush to take her mind off the pain. We all cried because of the pain we witnessed. But on the day, only three months after her accident, we cried full of joy when she sang, though she didn’t enter the Top 24 of American Idol.
When she was a little girl, she asked me why it was she that had tics. My heart hurt, but I told her, “Kendall, you have a pure heart, a fantastic voice, a strong mind. And you are a beautiful presence.”

Likiso finally returned in 2015 only to find that her hometown was already part of a new country South Sudan. Today, 31-year-old Likiso is a host on Radio Miraya. Miraya is the biggest network in South Sudan which has worked hard to push for peace in the area.
“Radio was the only source(来源) of information and happiness that kept my family going in the refugee camp. My mother would listen to the radio to keep up with what was happening back home. It is this experience that made me want to become a radio host,” Likiso recalled.
Recently a sad story shocked her country. A child was killed and her body was found in a toilet.“If that is not difficult to report, then I don’t know what is,” Likiso said. Of course, a young man decided to return home from the refugee camp he was living in to help homeless women. He built houses for them using unused water bottles.“At the time of my interview with him, he had already managed to take 10 women and their children off the streets.
In South Sudan, the radio has been seen as an important tool for providing information for hard-to-reach communities. It not only provides chances for local women and young people to learn about and take part in community events but also brings hope to those living in instability(不安定).

Hi Chris! How are you? I'm in Bayton with my family. Bayton is a seaside town with lots of beaches. We're here on holiday but the weather is terrible. There isn't much to do here when the weather is bad. It's a small town. There aren't any museums or cinemas. There isn't a library or a shopping centre. There are some shops in the town square. There's a supermarket, two banks, an Italian restaurant (it's got delicious pizzas) and a post office. Our hotel is next to the post office. Behind the hotel, there's a big park with a lake and lots of trees. There are a lot of ducks on the lake! Luckily, there is a sports centre with a fantastic swimming pool. It's great! The years passed. My father, who had come from Mexico in the 1920s to try to earn a living, worked long, long hours at the service station he ran. And my mother worked at home, keeping house for her husband and eight children. With his hard work and her thriftiness (节俭), they sent their first son off to college, then another child and then another. The older children helped with the school fees of the younger ones.
Just as the last two children were graduating from college, my father died suddenly of a heart attack, but my mother lived on for another twenty-three years. Their children had become lawyers, businessmen and teachers. In the last years of her life, my mother was finally able to buy some jewelry that she really loved.
A few years before she died, she told me that she wanted her jewelry to go to her granddaughters, and when she died, it was done. A diamond ring to this one, a pearl ring to that one, and so it went.
Then I discovered it: her first ring. It had been worn so long that it became so thin and would probably break at any minute. I took the ring, polished it with a cloth and carried it to the bank to place in a safety box. To me, it was a treasure that showed the devotion (奉献) my mother had made for us and the values that she lived.
The rest of my family doesn’t quite understand this, but when I look at that ring, I see the priceless jewel of my mother’s strength (毅力) and the deep love that she showed us every day of her life.
