Carl Lewis holds the record as the only man to capture the gold in the 100-meter, 200-meter, long jump, and 4×100-meter relay at the same Olympic Games. He has been a member of five Olympic teams, but it wasn't until the 1984 Games in Los Angeles that he came into his own, winning the 100-meter, 200-meter, long jump, and 4×100-meter relay. He continued to create history at the 1988 Games in Seoul, where he won the 100-meter and the long jump for a second time. In 1992 in Barcelona, Carl won the long jump and 4×100-meter relay again. Carl Lewis finally finished competing in 1996 in Atlanta where he won the long jump.
He happens to live right down the street from me, so I decided to interview the greatest Olympian of all time.
1. When you started running, did you realize that you were going to be great?
No, I was awful when I started! I was 5'5" until the end of tenth grade, but by the time I graduated I was six feet. I'm sure I would have quit if it hadn't been for my parents telling me not to give up.
2. What thoughts went through your mind before a race? What did you tell yourself?
Leading up to the race, I'd go over my race technique. But once I stepped into the block, I would try to relax and clear my mind so the only thing I could hear was the gun going off. While I was actually running, I had to be aware of what was happening, but I couldn't let that affect my race. I had to run my own race.
3. What advice would you give athletes?
Never give up. I was supposed to give up, but because my mom was the best liar on earth, telling me I would grow and that I was good at running, I continued to run. And you know how people say, "You can be whatever you want to be." You just have to be a leader, not a follower, choose to make a difference, and you will be whatever you aspire to be.

The OP, also known as the Optimist, is a small, single-handed sailboat that is easier to sail than larger boats. It is suitable for younger sailors. But this doesn’t mean Bao’s adventure was simple. He sailed for three days without stopping all by himself.
During the race, Bao found himself in a windless area in the Dongjiakou Channel. He was in danger if he didn’t keep moving. To keep himself safe and continue the race, he had to paddle(划桨) for a few hours without the help of the wind. This caused him to fall five hours behind other sailboat racers.
To catch up, Bao had to sail for about 11 hours each day for the rest of the race, longer than he’d been sailing previously(此前地). At night, he had to face the unknown ocean alone.
Luckily, Bao had the skills to beat the other sailors. He’s been sailing since he was 9 years old with the help of his father, a sailing coach. He practices sailing even during holidays.
“Sailing is very interesting and helpful. It has taught me how to fight against pressure and show my intelligence,” Bao said.

On September 29th, 2019, China won the Women’s Volleyball World Cup trophy(奖杯) in Japan. China won the gold medal with perfect 11-0 record. It was also the team’s 10th world title. “The trophy is the best gift to celebrate the 70th birthday of New China,” People’s Daily said in an article.

Since then, its fighting spirit has inspired generations of people, both within the team and across the country. People always follow the women’s volleyball as an example and learn from their spirit of never giving up.
Working hard was key to the team’s success. The World Cup was played in several different cities and team didn’t have much time to train. But they trained hard as soon as possible. On September 25th, for example, they arrived in Osaka at 2:30 p.m. and started training only an hour later.
Never giving up, especially during difficult times, is also part of the team’s fighting spirit, according to head coach Lang Ping. Many of the team’s members kept on playing even after being injured.

Christmas is for giving and sharing, for brightly covered gifts. But, mostly Christmas is for love. I had not believed this until a boy gave me a special gift one Christmas.
Without parents, Brian lived with his mean aunt. I had not noticed him particularly until he began to help clean up the room after school, at risk of being punished by his aunt. During those hours, Brian spoke mostly of his mother, a kind, gentle, loving woman who always spent time with him.
As Christmas came near, however, Brian didn't stay after school. I looked forward to his coming. One afternoon, I stopped him and told him how I had missed him. I saw his eyes lit up. I explained how he had been my best helper and this made him more excited. "I was making you a surprise. It's for Christmas." He became embarrassed and ran away.
Finally came the last school day before Christmas. Brian entered the room with his hands hiding something behind. "I have a present for you." He held out his hands, and a tiny box was lying there.
"It's beautiful, Brian. Let's see what's in it."
"Oh, you can't see what's in it," he said, "and you can't touch it, but mother always said it makes you feel good all the time, warm on cold nights and safe when you're all alone."
I looked into the empty box. "Brian, what will make me feel so good?"
"It's love, and mother always said it's best when you give it away."
Yes, Christmas is for celebrations, songs, and gifts. But mostly, Christmas is for love. So now I still keep the small box.

In large families, it is quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then they can only go to their friends for help.
It is very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a circle of friends. Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among themselves on the phone.
