Imagine you are a 15-year-old girl who seems never as good as your dead elder sister.
This is Julia’s situation at the beginning of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. It is a book which is written by Erika L.Sanchez. But things change quickly. Julia’s sister, Olga, is killed in a traffic accident. Her mother is heartbroken and so is Julia. Olga becomes prefect after her death. Their mother continuously compares Julia to prefect Olga, who now can do nothing wrong.
You expect that you’ll feel sorry for Julia, but Sanchez tries hard to make her unlikable. This is unexpected for a young-adult book. Sanchez has written a character who the reader might not want to be friends with. Rather than using your wrist(手腕 ), Michael Chou, the inventor, suggests pushing the scoop away from you and bringing the power of your arm and chest muscles into play.
His Midnight Scoop has a curved end. It allows you to easily use that power. It is the first change in design since the ice cream scoop was invented in 1897.
Chou calls his invention the Midnight Scoop because he spent many late nights designing it. The final product took 38 redesigns to come to success.
“Every time I scooped ice cream, I couldn’t help but feel there was a better way. I like my ice cream frozen and hard. Melting it with a hot spoon or letting it sit out for half an hour ruins(把……弄糟)it,” he said.
As an aerospace engineer, Chou is familiar with mechanical forces(机械力). Thus, he could design the scoop to rely on the power of one’s arm and chest.
But, at the same time, he is a 35-year-old father of two. This makes him familiar with ice cream. “That drove me to create the Midnight Scoop, because I needed a fast and efficient way to get ice cream to my son and daughter,” Chou explained.

【推荐3】American eating is funny. People in America eat almost everything with a fork. And it seems that holding a knife in one's right hand longer than a few seconds is thought to be against good table manners.
The system (制度,规则) is that if it is necessary to use a knife, people take the fork in their left hands, and cut off a piece of meat or others. Then they put the knife down, transfer the fork to their right hands, and then transfer the food to their mouths with the fork. This is clearly funny, but it is considered good manners.
There are several results of this system. First, if it is not necessary to use a knife, Americans don't use one, because this greatly complicates (使复杂化) things. Therefore, sometimes they will try to cut things like potatoes and even bacon with a fork. Second, since only one implement (器具) is being used, food has to be chased around the plate with the fork. Third, tables are usually laid with one knife and two forks. The outside fork is for the salad. There is no need for foreign visitors to follow the American system and try to eat the salad with only a fork, but if you do use your knife, remember to save it for the meat.
