There was a park near my home. But I didn’t go there very often because many people said there was nothing special. One afternoon I went into the park. I walked quickly because there wasn’t much to see. I walked for some time and found myself standing in front of two paths(小路).“Which way should I go?” I asked myself. I looked at one path, and then the other. I found that the two paths were different from each other.
The left one was wide and clean. There were lots of flowers on both sides of the path. Though the flowers weren’t very beautiful, they made me feel good. Then I looked at the right one. The path didn’t look nice. It looked as if it had not been cleaned for months. For a long time, I couldn’t make up my mind.
After a while, a strange feeling made me follow the dirty path. It wasn’t nice, but I didn’t want to give up. At last, I came to the end of the path. To my surprise, there was a small garden. It was beautiful. I thought it was the nicest part of the park. Later, I told the others what I had seen in the park, but they just smiled at me without saying a word. I knew they didn’t believe me. They couldn’t even remember that path because it was so small.
My trip to the park that day made me understand something about life. Don’t be afraid to choose a different path. You may get a big surprise!

Most of us were uncomfortable with this. We couldn’t fall back for more than a few inches before stopping ourselves.
Finally, Judy gave it a try. She is a thin, quiet, dark-haired girl who always wears big white sweaters. Judy crossed her arms over her chest, closed her eyes, leaned back, and did not stop. She looked like one of the TV ads where the model jumps into the pool.
For a moment, I was sure she was going to fall onto the floor. At the last moment, her partner grabbed her head and shoulders and pulled her up immediately.
“Whoa!” several students yelled. Some clapped their hands. Our teacher finally smiled. “You see,” he said to the girl. “You closed your eyes. That was the difference. Sometimes you cannot believe what you see. You have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them too even when you’re in the dark. Even when you’re falling.

One day, while looking through a flower list that she often ordered from, a picture of a plant immediately caught her eye. She had never seen a flower like it before. “I have to have it,” she said to herself, and she immediately ordered it. When it arrived, she found a place to plant it. She planted it at the bottom of a stonewall at the back of her yard. It grew vigorously, with beautiful green leaves all over it. Day after day, she continued to take care of it, but there were no flowers.
One morning, as she stood looking at the plant, she felt disappointed. She wanted to know why her plant had not bloomed.
However, at this moment, her disabled neighbor invited her to his yard and said, “Thank you so much! You can’t imagine how much I have enjoyed the flowers that you planted.” The young woman walked through the gate into her neighbor’s yard. She saw that on the other side of the wall the plant was full of flowers.
They were, indeed, the most beautiful flowers she had ever seen. The plant had grown up through the crevices (裂缝) in the wall.

They drive on the wrong side of the road and run red lights. They use mobile phones while driving. These reckless (鲁莽的) behaviors have caught the public's attention.
In the first half of 2017, food deliverymen had 76 traffic accidents in Shanghai, according to Shanghai Public Security Bureau. That means every two and a half days, a food deliveryman will die or get hurt on the road.
What makes deliverymen take such risks? The strict rules of the food delivery service companies and the anxious (焦急的) customers may be the answer.
Many companies will fine a deliveryman up to 2,000 yuan, if he fails to deliver an order on time, reported China Daily. Fines also go to those who get bad reviews from customers.
To solve the problem, food delivery service companies need to improve their incentive systems (激励制度), noted CRI Online.
Some cities are also taking action. Shanghai has asked companies to train their deliverymen on traffic rules and safety. Now in Shenzhen, if a deliveryman gets caught breaking traffic rules more than twice, then he will be banned from driving food service delivery vehicles (交通工具) for a whole year .

About a year ago, an old man got on the bus and said loudly to the driver, “Good morning!”Most people looked up, wondering why, and the bus driver didn’t take it seriously and just replied in a cold voice, “Mm - hmm”The next day the man got on and again he said in a loud voice, “Good morning!” to the driver. Another “Mm - hmm”. By the fifth day, the driver finally answered him with a little happy “Good morning!” Then the man said, “My name is Benny.” The driver told the man that he was Sam.
That was the first time any of us had heard the driver’s name and soon people began to talk to each other and say hello to Sam and Benny. Soon Benny spread his happy “Good morning!” to the whole bus. Within a few days, his “Good morning!” was returned by a lot of “Good mornings” and the whole bus seemed to be friendlier. People got to know each other.
“Benny truly showed friendship among us with a simple ‘Good morning!’,” I thought.
Then suddenly, Benny stopped showing up. Everyone began to ask about Benny, wondering what happened to him. No one knew what to do and the bus got quiet again. So, last week, I started to act like Benny and say “Good morning!” to everyone and the whole bus cheered up again. Hopefully, Benny could come back to see his “Good morning!” mattered a lot.
Sometimes we see some strangers so many times that we know their faces well, but we never even say hello to them. By saying hello, friendship starts to grow, and sunshine comes to the world around us, and love spreads over the community we are in. Why not start a “hello” today?

What do you think of your school? Have you ever expressed your ideas to your teachers or the headmaster? The following are the posts in an online chat room. Students from different schools have written down their thoughts.

I’d like to make some suggestions about our school uniform. In the school, we students have to wear uniforms every day. But the dark red and gray sportswear looks dark and old. It can’t stand for young and active spirit. We can add some white or orange colors and make a new type of uniform. I hope our headmaster will think about my idea. |
I’d like to say thank you to my headmaster. About half a month ago, my left ankle was badly hurt when I was playing basketball. Our headmaster saw it and came to me. He also took some ice cubes for me and took care of me until my parents came. I just want to thank him for that. |
I have two suggestions for my headmaster. First of all, I think we should have more courses like STEM, Drama or Robot programming. It is quite boring to study basic subjects all the time. And second, I hope we can have more teaching equipment for teachers and students. Some students now don’t have laptop computers to program their robots and some teachers also need 3D printers to build some special model bridges for Physics teaching. |
Today I want to talk about the possibility of personal classes. Now many high schools are trying the “personal class” system. Besides some regular classes, students can choose some more lessons they want to take. I think it is more effective. And it is also good for us. We don’t have to stay in one classroom all the time. We can meet more teachers and students. |
A.teaching equipment | B.school uniforms |
C.computer programs | D.personal classes |
A.early June | B.late May |
C.late June | D.early July |
A.students have too few classes every day and they love sports |
B.students want to cancel the basic subjects and they need new courses |
C.courses like STEM are interesting and students have no computers at all |
D.studying basic subjects only is boring and the school needs more equipment |
A.Johnathon | B.Larry | C.Mandy | D.Frank |
A.Regular classes will help teachers meet more students |
B.Regular classes will help students learn better |
C.Personal classes will help students learn better |
D.Personal classes will help students stay in one classroom |
A.how to share personal experiences | B.how to make schools better |
C.how to arrange spare time activities | D.how to deal with other students |

With all of these misfortunes, it’s hard to believe that I had the best time in Beijing. That day, my translation app wasn’t working properly so I couldn’t have a conversation. I got lost and took the wrong bus. The driver and the bus guard were kind enough to let me stay on the bus so that they could drop me off at the right bus stop.
When I didn’t have one yuan to pay for the bus ticket, a kind lady paid for me. She got off the bus with me and didn’t leave until my bus came. We only communicated by sign language. She asked me if I was hungry and gave me a huge tomato and two delicious local buns. My bus came and she talked to the driver to make sure he would drop me off at my stop. I expressed my thanks to her many times with tears falling from my eyes. I cried the whole trip.
That night, I left China full of gratitude to the Chinese people who made sure a young foreign traveler was safe and had good memories of their country.
