2 . I’m Peter from No. 2 Middle School. I usually ride my bike home. But today, there is something wrong with my bike, so I take a bus home.

3 . Jeff Keith has only one leg. When he was 12 years old, Jeff had cancer(癌症). Doctors had to cut off most of his right leg to save his life. Every day Jeff puts on an artificial (人造的) leg. The leg is plastic. With the plastic leg Jeff can ski, ride a bicycle, swim and play soccer. He can also run.
When he was 22 years old, Jeff Keith ran across the United States from the east to the west. He ran 5,200 kilometers, that is about 26 kilometers each day. 5 . Volunteering takes up our time, energy, and sometimes, money. But why do people still do that? Here are the reasons:
Volunteering is good for others. There are many people in need. Governments and professionals try to meet everyone’s need, but it’s difficult for them to do it all. That is why some people who need help. If people only think of themselves, the world will become a cruel (无情的) place. But when we try to help each other, we can help make our planet a better and happier home.
Volunteers and volunteer groups can bring food for hungry people, provide homes or clothes for those who need them, protect wildlife and natural areas. They can help people learn to read or do better at school.
On the other hand, volunteering is good for yourselves. You might get in return for your giving, for example, getting happier and healthier.

7 . As a volunteer teacher, I travelled a long way to a small village school in Longzhou, Guangxi. On my way there, I thought about the village, the school, and the children there. However, my heart sank when I arrived there. It was out of what I had expected. It didn’t look like a school at all! The school had only three rooms, one was for Grades 1, 2 and 3, one was for Grades 4, 5 and 6, and the third one was for me.
The children welcomed me warmly(热情地) on my first day. They asked me a lot of questions, and I told them stories about myself and my life in Shanghai. The next day, I gave them a test to find out their level(水平). To my surprise, though the test was very easy, over half of the students failed, yet they all wanted to learn new things. I knew they needed me.
I was busy preparing lessons and reading test papers every night. I enjoyed teaching these lovely and hard-working children, and I could see that they were making progress with my help. I have also learned a lot from them. I understand their lives better, and we are now good friends.
