Anand is from a city in the south of India. In 2017, he was     1     as an engineer at a car factory.

Norman Bethune is one of     1     (famous) heroes in China. He was a Canadian doctor. He came to China to help the Chinese people and died for them.

Norman Bethune was born in 1890. He became a doctor in 1916 and went to Spain in 1936 to treat (治疗) the wounded (受伤的) soldiers during the war there. He soon realized that many people were dying     2     they did not get to hospital quickly enough. Dr. Bethune developed new ways of taking care of the sick. He invented special medical tools to use outside hospitals and close to the fighting areas so that doctors could treat the wounded more quickly. His     3     (invent) saved many people.

In 1938, Dr. Bethune came to China and helped treat the wounded during the Anti-Japanese War. At that time, there were few doctors, so he had to work very hard on his own. Just at his moment, a man riding a horse came up to him. But the farmer felt disappointed when he saw who he was. It was the great man who lived nearby. He thought the great man wouldn’t help him, and hoped another farmer would come up. But to his surprise, the great man got off his horse as soon as he came near, “I see you need help,” he said, “I’m here just at the right time.” Then he took one end of the bag and the farmer took the other, they lifted it together and put it on the horse.

“Sir,” asked the farmer, “how can I pay you?”

“It’s quite easy,” the great man answered, “when you see anyone else in trouble, do the same for him.”
