Gina is only 12 years old. She is a girl who is     1     of love.

At the     2     of four, she began to learn how to play the guitar. And she did     3     in it. She wanted to help the poor kids in her town, so she decided to raise money by     4     the guitar in the street. At     5    , only a few people gave her money. Three days later, she put a sign beside her, saying why she was doing so.    6     people saw the sign, they were all moved and started to help her     7     the work. Gina also sold her favourite things to collect money. When her classmates got to know this, they all began to     8     their old toys, clothes and books to collect money, too. Gina has raised money for two years, and now she has got     9     than $ 3, 000. She says she will continue to do something like this and help the poor     10    .

We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day. It is bad     1     our environment. However, we can do something to help. Recycling is one of the     2    (great) ways to make a difference in the world. It is important for both our natural environment and     3    (we), especially when we can get a little money for doing so.

Mr. Black is our class     4    (teach). He loves to recycle and always encourages us all to take part in it. By recycling bottles, newspapers, and other things, he     5     gets about thirty dollars a month. It is not a lot of money,    6     he is happy to have a little extra(额外的) money now and then. Most of the time he     7    (use) the money to take his family to the cinema. So his family always look forward to     8    (go) to the movies at the end of every month.

6 . Do you often help the people who are in need? If everyone does it, it will make a big difference to the world.

One day two boys walked along the road to school. They saw an old woman carrying a large basket of pears. She looked very tired. They went up and said “Let’s help you.”

“Thank you,” said the woman. “That’s very kind of you.” Then she told them that she wanted to go to the market to sell the pears. So the boys decided to lift the basket together. They walked slowly with the heavy basket but they were happy.

The other day I saw a little girl pick up a banana peel (皮). She threw it into the dustbin (垃圾箱). “I hope nobody would throw that on the street,” she said. “Someone may slip (滑倒) and fall.”

Perhaps some people may say that these are not great things. That’s right. But almost all great things are made up of such small things. We shouldn’t wait for the time to do great things. We should begin with these little things that are full of love.

7 . Helping others is a great thing to do. There are many ways of helping others. You can help people, animals or the environment. It can make you feel good too! How can you help?

Charities (慈善机构) are organizations that help others. You can help charities by giving your time, giving money or giving things that you own. You can also help people or places you know.

Volunteering

Volunteering is when you give your time to help others. Some ways of volunteering are:

·visiting old people to talk to them or help them.

·walking dogs at an animal shelter (避难所).

·cleaning up a park.

Fundraising

Fundraising is when you collect money to help others. Some ways of fundraising are:

·making cakes or biscuits to sell.

·doing a sponsored (赞助) activity. For example, family and friends give you money if you finish a long walk.

Donating

Donating is when you give your things or money to help others. Some ways of donating are:

·giving your old toys or clothes to a charity that helps sick children or poor people.

·giving your old books to a library.

·giving your money to a charity.

So, what can you do to help others?
