2 . The greatest feeling in the world comes not from receiving gifts or getting good grades in the exams. It starts when you do something for others. You feel it when you drive for an hour to a hospital to meet the sick children. And you feel it when you sit down to comfort (安慰) your friend after her mother died.
My friend took me to a Youth Group meeting in his school. Then they invited me to join in feeding the homeless. Early that Saturday morning, a group of 15 teenagers began making sandwiches, washing fruit, and counting bags of cookies. For the first time in my life I realized that we, the teens of America, could make a difference. It made me join the Youth Group.
I work at a coffee shop. It’s not the best job, but sometimes it’s worth (值得) it. One day, the store was empty and I was bored. Looking out of the window, I noticed an old man sitting outside. He never came in to buy anything because he didn’t have any money. I took a cup of coffee, walked outside, and handed it to him. The smile on his face made my day, and as I walked back into the store. I paid for the coffee myself. Then I knew how the members of the Youth Group feel every time they help someone. Knowing that you can help others is great.

For most of us, watching a movie is a pretty common thing to do. But for the blind people who can’t see, it can be very difficult. In Kunming, Yunnan Province, there is a very special theater, Xin Deng Theater (心灯影院). It’s blind-friendly.
More than 5,000 volunteers help at the Xin Deng Theater on weekends. Most of them are university students. Their job is to narrate (讲述) films to blind moviegoers. Before working, volunteers will learn how to tell of a film.
Every Saturday, volunteers will come to the bus stop to pick up the blind and take them to the Xin Deng Theater. Then all the blind will sit down to enjoy a movie together. When the movie begins, a volunteer will give lively narrations. He describes what is happening on the screen, including facial expressions (面部表情), the background and even the clothing. With the help of the narrator, the blind immerse (沉浸) themselves in the movie. They laugh when something funny happens and sigh (叹气) during sad situations.
Volunteers at the Xin Deng Theater help blind moviegoers better enjoy their theater trips. Yifan, one of the volunteers, has narrated more than 20 movies. “I could feel they were enjoying the film. I was so glad that my volunteer work could bring enjoyment to them,” he said. “I felt as though I was shining a light on their lives.”

10 . Alexander Scott, who lived in Pennsylvania, is regarded as a hero because she thought of others before herself. Alex’s goal was to find a cure for people with cancer. Alexander Scott was four years old when she started her own lemonade stand. While she was too weak to fight it off, she was still strong inside. Alex raised thousands of dollars for cancer research.
Alex was born in 1996. When Alex was just a baby, they found a tumor on her back and then they removed it. Two days before Alexander Scott’s first birthday, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. Alex has tried so hard to fight her cancer.
When Alex was four years old, she was trying to find a cure to help others. That’s when Alex had the idea to start her own lemonade stand. She opened her first lemonade stand in July of 2000. In her first year she raised $2,000. As word spread Alex started to get more and more donations from people. Alexander Scott has raised more than $900,000 for pediatric cancer.
Alexander is a hero to others near and far. While Alex was trying to fight off cancer, she raised over $700,000. Her goal was $1,000,000 for cancer. Most of it was from people that donated money to help find a cure for cancer. Another reason is that when people saw Alex started to have a lemonade stand to help others. They started to do the same thing. Today there are about 200 lemonade stands held to raise money for cancer. After Alex met her goal, she’s probably going to save a lot of children and adults’ lives.
That’s why people keep going on with her goal. Maybe we can meet her goal by donating money and helping others so you can find a cure for cancer. If you want to help Alex Scott you can click her own web site www. alexslemonade. com. There are a lot of pictures, and facts about Alex Scott.
