A boy was at a market with his sister. She was     1     at something.

I volunteered for four weeks in children’s home, and it was a wonderful experience.     1     a long journey, I arrived at the orphanage (孤儿院) and saw the children. It was a good way     2     them and we     3     them up. All the children were clever and kind. The orphanage became my home and the children thanked for the help of the     4    .     5     the place was poor and there were difficulties, they were happy. They got a lot of help from having a teacher, practicing     6     English and doing their homework. When we played games together, they were all     7    . When I     8     them English, they understood me     9    . A volunteer can bring new information, education and ideas for the children, and open their eyes to the world. When we volunteer, we play a role in improving others’ lives. At the same time, we are helping ourselves.

Last summer vacation, I     1     at an organization (组织) called Cradles to Crayons. It gives away things such as clothes and shoes to children in need. I spent two     2     a day helping choose and pack (打包) things there.

I quite liked the work. When volunteering there, I met some of the nicest people. They were always happy and     3     to help. I enjoyed talking and working     4     them.

At the end of each day, the volunteer leader (领导人) would tell us how many children we helped that day. I was surprised to     5     how a small act could make a big difference in someone’s life. I only volunteered for a short time each day, but many children got help. I got such a strong     6     of satisfaction from this.

My volunteer experience at Cradles to Crayons also taught me to be thankful for what I have in life food, clean water, clothes, family...They are easily     7     to us, but for some others, they may be hard to get. We should value (珍视) them.

Red Nose Day (RND) is an event (事件) to     1     money in the UK. People celebrate Red Nose Day in spring every     2     years. It’s called Red Nose Day because on this day many people buy a plastic (塑料的) red nose to wear! And the money from     3     red noses goes to the charity (慈善).

On this day, thousands of people put on red noses and     4     clothes at home, at work, at school and     5     everywhere. It calls on people in the UK to try to help the     6     people across the UK and Africa.     7     don’t need to wear school uniform (校服), and they wear all kinds of clothes and red noses at school. They have many     8     to raise money, such as making and selling red noses at school and putting on a show. Everyone raises money and donates (捐赠) it     9     the poor. They learn     10     to do their best to help others on this day.

Wearing a red nose for a day may seem to be a funny way to raise money for charity.

A warm smile or some kind words sometimes can change or even save a man’s life.

It was a cold morning. Cassie stopped by Dunkin’s Donut s for breakfast. She was     1     for her food when she saw a homeless man. He was     2     up coins off the street outside.

Soon the man walked into Dunkin’s Donuts. He wanted to buy     3     to eat with the coins. Cassie felt sorry for him, so she     4     to buy him a cup of coffee and bread. The man gladly     5     her gift, and the two sat down at a table to talk while they ate their breakfast.

The man was called Chris. He had a     6     life. “My mother died and I never knew my dad,” he told Cassie. “People don’t like me     7     I’m homeless.” The two talked for about two hours. Cassie felt good about getting to know him. Before Cassie left the shop, Chris wrote down a     8     note (便条) for her.

Do you like dogs? Ethan Katz is an English boy. He enjoys     1     with dogs. His two dogs came from animal shelters (收容所). When he was ten, he     2     up with the idea to sell T-shirts for City Dogs Rescue in Washington, D.C.

The     3     parents are both volunteers for City Dogs Rescue. With their help, he went on a website for T-shirt designing (设计) and money-raising.
