文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了新疆和内蒙古地“海鲜”很受欢迎,并且介绍了虹鳟鱼和南美白对虾的养殖方法。

1 . When you think of the sea, you may not think of Xinjiang or Inner Mongolia. But recently, the “seafood” produced in these places has become popular, especially after Japan put nuclear-contaminated water(核污染水)into the sea, reported China Daily.

In Nilka county in Xinjiang, about 6, 000 tons of rainbow trout(虹鳟鱼)will be produced this year. Rainbow trout belongs to the same family as salmon(鲑鱼), which is a kind of well-known seafood. It tastes like salmon too.

Why do farmers there choose to grow fish? The weather in some parts of Xinjiang is seldom hot, and the rivers are fed by meltwater(融水)from the Tianshan Mountains. Water deeper than 6 meters always stays at 10 C. As the meltwater is very clean and cold, it's a “comfortable” home for fish, Li Chunyu, a worker at a fish company in Xinjiang, told China Daily.

To make sure the river stays clean, the company uses machines to clean fish waste in the water. They also use net cages that are good for the environment. The nets are about 51 meters wide and lie 25 meters deep in the river.

Meanwhile, in Inner Mongolia, whiteleg shrimp(南美白对虾)grows well. Saline soil(盐碱土)covers a large part of the desert where few plants are able to grow. Farmers used to put water from the Yellow River onto the farmland to wash away the salt. This was a waste of salty water. Scientists then decided to create “seawater” with the salty water by adding in some other components(成分). Whiteleg shrimps can live well in this kind of water. They taste no different from the same kind of shrimp that grows in the sea.

③grows one kind of fish once a year                  ④cuts down the fish production
A.①②B.③④C.①②③D.②③④
4. Why is whiteleg shrimp introduced in the story?

D.To show another “seafood” grown without using the sea.

2 . If you put your history notes under your pillow and sleep on them the night before an exam, will you do any better in the exam? Most of us have hoped this might help. However, knowledge(知识)can’t go through the pillow into your brain. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn while you are asleep.

Scientists aren’t exactly sure how it works, but they have discovered that the brain can learn things during sleeping hours.

In one experiment(实验), scientists gave English speakers some Chinese words to learn. Then, they divide them into three groups. The scientists played(播放)the Chinese words for people in Group I while they were asleeep, without telling these English speakers what they were doing. The sound was low. So it didn’t wake them up, and only the newly learned words were used.

Another group listened to the same words while they were awake. The scientists found the people in Group I were better able to identify and speak out the words later. This was true only for the words that were played while they slept. The third group listened to words when they walked. The walkers didn’t have the same success remembering the words as the sleeping group.

The scientists later found that people had more slow wave(慢波的)brain activity all over the night. They said that more slow waves made people have a better memory for the new words.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要通过介绍中国几个比较有代表性的品牌,来阐述中国品牌一步步由“中国制造”迈向“中国设计”。

5 . “Made in China” is popular now—and it’s a fashionable one.

The story of Chinese fashion began in 2011 when Feiyue and Huili, the two Chinese sports shoe brands, suddenly got international attention. Their products were seen all over the world. A famous Chinese sportswear brand Li Ning was at the New York Fashion Week in September, 2018. They showed their new designs—sweaters and jackets with Chinese characters.

Shaun Rein, managing director of China Market Research Group, said that the latest Chinese brands no longer catch customers’ eyes by low price. He told CNN, “They are sure that they can go head to head with foreign brands.”

Maybe it is because China’s young people are now more confident about their own culture. They don’t show immediate interest in Western culture any more.

“Today’s young people in China are crazy about Chinese cultural elements,” Jin Qu, the manager of a clothing shopping website, said at a cultural festival in 2018. “They like these elements printed on their clothes, even the brand picture of Laoganma in China, which was once seen as outside of fashion. But now young people are proud of these Chinese symbols.”

In fact, many stars in the West now are interested in Chinese cultural elements in fashion. Rihanna, a US singer, for example, wore a Chinese red dress to the 2015 Met Gala in New York. The dress was designed and made by Chinese designer Guo Pei.

“We have to move from making to creating,” Chinese-American designer Aric Chen once told The New York Times. “We want to replace the words ‘Made in China’ with ‘Designed in China’.”

6 . Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)has a long history in curing illnesses and caring for people’s health.

The earliest known written record of TCM is Huangdi Neijing from the third century BC. This classic writing provides the main belief of TCM that remains the basis of its practice today. The belief of TCM is about the balance between yin and yang of the body. The two sides repeat many times in the same order according to season and age to influence people’s health. It is a wonder that TCM doctors could cure patients without machines but only with a physical examination, which has four basic methods of diagnosis(诊断)—observing, listening and smelling, asking, and pulse-taking (脉诊). Observing is watching the looks to know patients’ conditions. Listening and smelling can help to collect messages through hearing the sound and smelling the smell of patients. Asking means asking about symptoms (症状) or signs and the medical history that they use. And pulse-taking is noting the pulse conditions of patients to know the changes inside or reactions of the illness.

In the development of TCM,doctors of different dynasties worked in practice and conclusion. Shennong Bencao Jing, Shanghan Zabin Lun and Bencao Gangmu are all important works for traditional medicine learners.

Nowadays, TCM has become popular all over the world.

On the Loess Plateau (黄土高原), a donkey carries boxes of shadow play tools while five players walk with musical instruments on their backs. They travel through mountains and villages. When it becomes dark, they set up the light and paper screen and start their show.

This is a Daoqing shadow play (道情皮影戏). It is an art mixing Daoqing music and shadow play. The player holds the human characters behind the paper screen and plays a series of stories. The characters are usually made of cow skin.

The stage of the Daoqing shadow play is simple. It’s usually a table covered with a large piece of paper. The light was behind the paper screen. As the shadow player moves his fingers, the characters come to life and their looks, dress and movement can be clearly seen from the other side of the screen. The player is also the lead singer. All the characters are played and voiced by him. It’s not an easy job.

Shi Chenglin is an old shadow player. He says it takes a player ten to twenty years to be good at playing the characters well. He used to have students, but they gave up one by one.
