1 . When Chinese people greet each other for the first time, they often ask, “May I know your family name, please?” There is no question that family names are very important to the Chinese. They are closely connected with the Chinese culture and values. In many ways, they hold the key to our understanding of the Chinese family history.

Chinese people usually talk about Baijiaxing or Surnames when it comes to Chinese family names. Written in the early Northern Song dynasty, the book recorded 504 common family names in China. But according to the present records, the Chinese have at least 5,662 family names altogether. 3,484 of them are single character family names, and 2,032 are two-character family names. Another 146 are three-character family names, which are hardly seen today.

Chinese family names have a history dating back more than 4,000 years. But the origin (起源)of them is very complex. There is one family name with many origins, as well as several family names with the same origin. Still, there is the name that has changed into many in the course of the developed history.

Chinese family names have witnessed(见证)thousands of years of development. They are not just the characters that Chinese people put before their names, but a unique part of the Chinese culture. Experts are now making great efforts for the application(申请)of Chinese family names for the UNESCO (联合国教科文组织)program Memory of the World, hoping to introduce the culture behind Chinese family names to the world.

2 . If you’re having a hard time getting along with your new teacher, going to class can be a bad time. But you really want to get good grades, what should you do? Here are some suggestions for you.

Talk to your teacher. A short discussion can clear up the clouds between two persons. Always be polite and show admiration. Express yourself bravely and show the ideas from your heart.

Ask your teacher how you can do well in class. Teachers have years of education and experience in the subjects they teach. Learning more about this fact helps make a good relationship between you and your teacher. Discussing the best ways to succeed in class shows your teacher you care about the class.

Learn to understand his teaching method. Sometimes, the reason why you don’t like your teacher is the way he runs the classroom. If you’re used to a very relaxing class, learning to develop in a strict environment is difficult. In fact, giving yourself time to accept this new style of teaching is possible.

The World Wide Web(www.万维网)turned 25 years old on March 12th. It has become a very important part in our daily lives. We can’t imagine living without the web, the short form of the World Wide Web.
In 1989, a British engineer named Tim Berners-Lee came up with the idea of the Web. It is a group of “pages” of information that are connected to each other around the world. That is the very beginning of the Web. Since then, the Web has greatly changed the way people live. With a click(点击)of a mouse we can read news, buy things, make friends and learn anything we’re interested in.
Now, 25 years after its birth, how will the Web influence life in the future? Scientists believe there are both advantages and disadvantages. w     W w .x   K   b 1.c o M

We could share plenty of information to make our daily lives more convenient(方便的). So one day in the future, your front door could send you a message. “Dear sir, everyone has left the house, but I’ m still open!”
But scientists warn(警告)us that if we share personal information on the Internet it could get into the wrong hands.
“It’s not wise to spend a whole day in front of the screen. People need to get close to nature and enjoy the sun. Never be controlled by the Internet.” said Berners-Lee.
