文章大意:本文主要讲锻炼时听音乐对人的大脑思考有积极的作用。

1 . If music makes you smart and exercise helps you to think, surely exercising to music can turn you into a person who is better at learning and understanding.

A team of scientists from a university did research on 33 volunteers. They found that people who exercised while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons did much better in language ability test than without music.

The volunteers said they felt better after exercising with or without the music. But their improvement on the test doubled after listening to the music during exercise. “Exercise seems to cause great changes in the nervous system (神经系统) and have a direct result on learning ability,” said the scientist Charles Emery. Scientists have found that music can be good for health and education. It helps relieve stress, sadness and nervousness, wakes up the body and improves memory and thoughts.

Scientists have been using Mozart’s music, especially his violin pieces, to help disabled children. Mozart is often chosen because his music is not over-exciting. A study showed students who often exercise to Mozart’s music get higher marks. With important exams drawing near, your parents will not probably allow you to listen to music. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了优秀学习者的一个必备技能——自我反思,以及自我反思的原因和方法。

3 . Do you ever feel like you are running from one activity to another, or studying one subject after another at a mad rush? When things happen at such a fast pace(节奏), you will easily fail to notice what you are doing, or what you are learning. It is important to stop yourself every now and then to think about what you’ve been doing or learning. This is called self-reflection (自我反思).

There are mainly two forms of self-reflection. Some people prefer to do their self-reflection in their minds, while others keep written notes. Whether the reflection is done in mind or on paper, either of them can work.

School textbooks are often divided into units. It is a good choice for a student to get started a self-reflection. When one unit is over, there are always some kinds of tests. You can use these natural breaks as chances to stop and reflect. Find a quiet place. This can even be sitting at your desk at school when you finish something early and the other students are still working. If you are going to take notes, take out a piece of paper or your reflection notebook. Just take down the important points but not everything. Let your mind think over the notes you have written and make some connections.

Sometimes just stopping to think deeply allows your brain to make connections so that new information can be quickly recalled(回想起) when you need it again. Next, think about things that you still wonder. For example, maybe you learned a new way to solve a math problem, but you’re not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to continue looking for answers the next time you come across the same topic.

Self-reflection is an essential skill for a better student. If you have never taken time to reflect, try it now.

1. What will happen if we study at a too fast pace according to Paragraph 1?
A.We will be very tired.B.We will get good grades in exams.
C.We will not notice what we are learning.D.We will have more time to do other things.
2. Why should we do self-reflection?
A.To have more activities and subjects.
B.To make things happen faster and better.
C.To make our brain more and more active.
D.To have a better understanding about what we learned.
3. When we study a textbook, how can we do self-reflection correctly?
A.Find a quiet place and think deeply.B.Reflect after finishing the whole book.
C.Take down everything that you learned.D.Discuss with classmates.
4. What does the underlined word “essential” mean in the passage?
A.Important.B.Difficult.C.Impossible.D.Harmful.
5. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Self-Reflection in Mind or Taking Notes
B.Self-Reflection Makes You a Better Learner
C.Why Not Try These Steps of Self-Reflection
D.Find a Good Place and Time for Self-Reflection

4 . Why did Chinese people have more than one name in ancient times?

In ancient China, people’s names had three parts, their family name, given name and courtesy name. Take famous poet Li Bai for example. His family name, which came from his father’s name, was Li. His given name was Bai, and his courtesy name was Taibai.

People used their given names when they were among family members. But in social life, they called each other by their courtesy names to show respect. This was mostly done among people of similar age. If you were talking about yourself, or if your elders were talking about you, the given name would be used instead of the courtesy name.

Men would get their courtesy names when they turned 20. It was a symbol of adulthood (成年礼). Women would get their courtesy names after getting married.

One’s courtesy name often had something to do with one’s given name. For example, the name of Mencius was Meng Ke. His courtesy name was Ziyu. Both Ke and Ziyu mean carriage (马车)”. Zhuge Liang’s given name was Liang, which means “bright”. His courtesy name was hongming, which means “very bright”.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了如何健康饮食的五点建议。

8 . Healthy eating doesn’t just mean what you eat, but how you eat. Here is some advice on healthy eating.

Eat with others. It can help you to see others’ healthy eating habits. If you usually eat with your parents, you will find that the food you eat is more delicious.

Listen to your body. Ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty—sometimes you are just thirsty, and you need no food. Stop eating before you feel full.

Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Because you don’t eat for the past ten hours, your body needs food to get you energy. You will be smarter after eating breakfast.

Eat healthy snacks like fruit, yogurt or cheese. We all need snacks sometimes. In fact, it’s a good idea to eat two healthy snacks between meals. This doesn’t mean that you can eat a bag of chips instead of a meal.

Don’t eat dinner late. In our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last minute. Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8-10 hours.

As we get older, we look back and wish that we had made better choices, so what can we do to avoid future regrets?

Make better plans

If you start to do something, you need to make a plan before doing it. The earlier, the better. You will know what comes first and what comes last. You’ll also know what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. If changes happen, you can have more time to deal with them.

Live a more active life

You can go around more often. More outdoor activities can keep you relaxed and active. You also need to be kind. “Thank you” can bring a smile to someone’s face. Learn to say “sorry” and don’t be angry with others.

Make friends carefully

A friend may make your life and he or she can break your life as well. So you have to think twice when you choose a friend. Good friends will always give you good ideas. When you get into trouble, ask others for help. That little help may get you good results.
