文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了严厉的父母对孩子的影响及为了孩子们的健康成长我们应该怎么做。

1 . Thomas is always worried recently. When he wants to play basketball after school, his father says “NO, study should come first.” Every time he turns on the TV after he finishes his homework, his father will shout at him, “Do you have a lot of time? Why not read more books instead of watching TV?” He wants to have a picnic with his father on the weekends, but he knows nothing is more important than study for his father. So Thomas feels sad all the time.

Are you a strict parent? Do you often say NO to your children? A new study found that strict parents may make a child become fat and poor in health.

If the father is very strict while the mother is kind, what will be the result? Is it better for the children? “No, it isn’t.” said Thomas Schofield from a University in the US. “Instead of saying, ‘I’m strict and my wife is the loving mother.’ or something like that, it is better to know that what bad effect (影响) it has to your children.” Schofield said in the paper.

“The best thing we can do is to tell parents not to be too strict with their children. If we want to make sure we’re doing something good for our children’s health, the best and safest way is to love him, care for him and share the growth with him.” Schofield advised.

2 . Everyone has worries. How do you deal with (处理) your worries? There is always something you can do to help yourself feel less worried. Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won’t solve your problems. Grades at school are often a top worry for children. If you worry most about grades, ask yourself these questions:

◆Why are grades important? What do grades mean to me?

◆How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn’t a test?

◆Do I have a good place to do my homework?

If your worry is about a fight you had with your friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to watch a basketball game, say sorry to him or her and so on. Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose one thing that could get your friend back. You can ask for help when you’re worried. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了家长和孩子之间的沟通问题,并提供了一些建议来消除代沟。

3 . Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代沟).

Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express (表达) yourself well if you are angry. Go some places to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.

Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.

Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊重) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.

Talk about your values (价值观). The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.

A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

1. According to the passage, who have a communication problem?
A.Parents and other people.B.Only school kids and their parents.

5 . Jin Ying, 25, is a lover of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She took part in a three-month training lesson on tuina in the winter of 2023 at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.

Jin’s life has been different since the training. For example, she didn’t do too much exercise in winter, because the cold of winter means people should slow down, according to TCM. For her, learning about TCM was not about becoming a TCM doctor but about leading a healthy life.

She is not an unusual example of young people becoming interested in TCM. It’s reported by China Youth Daily that 93.3% of the 1,000 young people have tried TCM. Between Western medicine and TCM, young people often choose TCM “because of its efficacy (疗效),” according to Ma Huifang, a TCM doctor. Some people question why TCM has different treatments (疗法) for the same illnesses. “In fact, this is an advantage of TCM. We give people the treatments according to their own health condition. And it can make the treatments more accurate and more useful for different people,” said Ma.

Younger age groups are showing more interest in TCM. At the same time, TCM also gives young people a better life. It helps young people understand Chinese medicine and learn why it is an important part of Chinese culture.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了当事情不对劲时要学会放手以及什么时候放手很重要。

6 . Roger Federer, a world-famous sports star, quit (放弃) the 2020 Olympic Games to deal with his knee problem. It was a hard decision because no one wanted to be a quitter. But finding the courage to let go can be good for you.

Nothing is fun all the time. Never giving up doing something difficult teaches us important skills like perseverance. However, learning to let go when things aren’t right is important too. Maybe your heart isn’t in playing the piano any more, or you only play football because your friends do and you want to try a different sport instead. Making the decision to walk away can make you have more free time and energy to spend on something you really enjoy. In fact, studies show that not paying much attention to the goals you can’t reach or don’t really want can build up your confidence and help you lead a happier and healthier life.

But how can you know it’s time to stop or move on? Eric Bean is an expert in sports psychology (心理学) who helps athletes and teams understand their feelings. He says, “Quitting is never a matter of black and white.” He suggests thinking carefully about why you aren’t enjoying something any more. Is it because you’ve argued with a teammate or can’t get on with a new art teacher? Talk about this with an adult or a friend who you trust. That can help you decide whether you should stick or quit.

Quitting doesn’t completely mean giving up, though. For example, playing an instrument might be more fun if you want to take away the pressure of exams. If you decide to give up an activity, Bean suggests picking up another where you can still enjoy things like teamwork, creativity, and exercise.

1. The writer mentions “Roger Federer” in Paragraph 1 to show that ________.
A.we should never give upB.we should get away from trouble

文章大意:本文探讨了技术对人们生活的影响。虽然技术使世界更加紧密连接,但也存在使人感到孤独和脱离社交的担忧。作者认为技术是一种工具,取决于如何正确地使用它,可以将孤独转化为友情和爱。

7 . There is no doubt that technology has had a big influence on our lives. People from all around the world can now talk to each other almost at once on mobile phones and the Internet. People can easily solve their problems with the help of computers and the World Wide Web. With the technology, it seems that the world is more connected now than ever before. Even so, there have been worries about technology making people feel lonely and disconnected from others around them.

So does this mean that technology makes us lonely?

In my opinion,   it is hard to say “Yes” or “No”.

It’s true that humans need communication with each other. If we depend on technology too much to communicate, this can badly impact our mental (心理的) health. For me, technology is a tool. And just like any other kind of tool—like scissors, a pencil or a ruler. For example, it depends on how we use it: in a right way or in a right place. Take social media (社交媒体) as an example. If you only use it to compare yourself with others, you might feel sad and lonely. But if you use it as a tool to connect with friends and family or to start a new community to talk about your hobbies and interests, the loneliness will turn into love and friendship.

When you feel lonely after staring at your computer screen all day, maybe you can use that technology to reach out to a reliable (可靠的) friend and invite him or her out for lunch or a coffee.

1. According to the passage, if people depend on technology too much, they may ________.
A.sleep lessB.live longerC.feel lonelyD.get more jobs

3. According to the writer, technology is ________.
A.a toolB.an influence
C.a pair of scissorsD.a way of communication
4. When we use technology to ________ others, we can find love and friendship.

5. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Social media is important to us.
B.Technology can be both good and bad.
C.People need to communicate with each other.
D.Computers and the Internet help us with our work.

8 . My grandfather is eighty years old. He always complains (抱怨) about how fast things have changed, and he often says that life used to be better.

And mothers used to stay at home and take care of their children, but now everyone is busy working. No one has time to look after their children at home.

And the cars! No one walks any more. More and more people drive. We used to walk five miles to school on school days, even in winter. But now students don’t. And at school, children don’t have to think anymore. In Maths class, for example, we used to add, subtract, multiply and divide by using our heads. But now kids don’t use their heads any more. Instead, they use calculators.

Most families have computers now. In the past we didn’t have computers. We didn’t even have lights. My mother used to spend all day cooking in the kitchen. But now we don’t often eat home-cooked food.
