1 . Do you have any friends? What do you think of friendship? Here are some opinions from Ann, Pedro, Crystal and Roy.

Ann comes from Japan. She thinks a true friend won’t leave her alone when she is in trouble. Pedro is from Canada. He thinks that friendship means giving. If you want others to care about you, you must care about them first. Crystal was born in China. She has the same opinion as Pedro. The real meaning of friendship is giving others something instead of thinking about taking anything back. What about Roy from Japan? He doesn’t care about the looks of his friends. In his opinion, a sincere（真诚的） heart is more important than looks. If you are in the same country as Roy, you can write e-mails to him.

Some people say that, “Time is money.” But I think time is much more important than money. Because when money is spent, we can earn (赚得) more. However, when time is gone, it’ll never return. That is why we mustn’t waste it.

It goes without saying that the time we have to do something is usually limited (有限的). Every second is very important. We should make full use of our time to do something useful. It is a pity then that there are a lot of people who do not know the importance of spending their time. Some people waste their time by smoking, drinking and playing too much. They don’t realize that they are wasting away their own life.

In a word, we should make good use of our time. We shouldn’t leave today’s word until tomorrow. Remember we have no time to lose.

3 . Since 2017, short videos have gotten millions of views（关注）online. Many people create and share short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can even add music and special effects（特效）to your videos. The videos are 15 seconds to a few minutes long. They show people do activities like cooking, exercising and singing.

Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of the teenagers said they enjoyed watching these short videos. About 47 percent of them have posted their own videos, according to a recent report by the China National Youth Palace Association.

The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting things they wouldn’t usually see. Many teens like to share the fun things they do with others as well. For example, a 12-year-old user named Xiao Qianyu has posted videos to show her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.

However, the videos can also cause some trouble. Some teenagers spend too much time watching them and not enough time studying. Some videos are vulgar（庸俗的）and not good for teenagers.

To deal with these problems, Douyin added a new function（功能）. It locks the app if someone uses the app for over two hours a day. The government also asked companies to make more strict rules for these apps and cancel（取消）the unsuitable videos.

5 . Most Chinese parents have great expectations(期望) for their children. When children are born, their parents have planned everything for them. It is common for parents to want their children to be successful. However, many children in China are unhappy. They live a planned life and are asked to fulfill their parents’ dreams.     

In my opinion, there are two sides of parents’ expectations. On the one hand, the expectations can encourage children to work harder for a better life. According to some studies, whether a child will be successful or not depends mostly on his or her parents’ expectations. But on the other hand, unrealistic(不切实际的) expectations can be harmful to children. Every child has his or her own thoughts and feelings. Parents’ expectations can take children’s freedom away. Wise parents allow their children to have some freedom. They encourage their children to do things they like to do and never only care about their grades.   

My parents’ expectations for me are to be happy, kind and healthy. They never put too much pressure on me, so I live a happy life. However, I have my own dreams. I keep working hard, though my parents do not want me to do so. I will never give up because my parents always encourage me when I am in trouble. In a word, I think parents’ expectations are necessary. However, parents should not give their children too much pressure. Instead, they should give them enough freedom. Parents must make sure their expectations for their children are realistic so that their children will not lose their self-confidence(自信).

Did you ever see a donation（捐赠）box in your neighbourhood? Did you ever put your old clothes into the donation box? If not, you can have a try now, because the clothes donation is becoming more popular especially at the end of the year.

“I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I’ll put them into the donation box.” Miss Wang, a smart young woman says.

“That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil cases.” Mrs. Lee, an old woman says, sometimes I like to look through the box for some nice clothes.”

However, there are some problems. Recently, a CQTV reporter did a survey（调查）. Here are the results:

*The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away clothes.

*Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of（而不是）wearing them.

*Some neighbourhood doesn’t set the box in right places, so there are few clothes in it.

In order to make the donation box work well, our city is trying to help out in different efficient（有效的）ways. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it’ll be better for people in need to take the clothes away.

9 . One day we find that students hardly spend much time on sports. Is it because they aren’t interested in sports? No, they often say they have other more important things to do.

What are these important things? Exams! They have to spend much time on all kinds of exams at school. So many of them almost become bookworms(书虫). Books stop them from going out for sports. Because of the pressure from their parents and teachers, the students have to work harder and spend most of their time on books. They want to get good results and make progress.

So it is necessary for them to give all of their free time to their study and stop their school sports.

In fact, education can’t go without enough exercise, because a quick mind hardly goes along with a weak body. If you don’t have a strong body, you can never get anything or any great success in your life.

10 . Do you know how to be a healthy kid? Here are some rules you should follow.

*Eat different food, especially fruit and vegetables. You may have your favorite food, but you’d better eat something different. If you eat different food, you will probably get more nutrients (营养物质) your body needs.

*Drink water and milk as often as possible. When you’re really thirsty, cold water is the No.1 choice. Milk is a great drink that can give you more calcium (钙) your body needs to grow strong bones.

*Listen to your body. How do you feel when you are full? When you are eating, notice how your body feels and when your stomach feels comfortably full. Eating too much will not make you feel comfortable and will make you fat.

*Limit screen time. Screen time is the time you watch TV, DVDs and videos, or computers. It is good to take more exercise such as basketball, bike riding and swimming. You can’t watch TV for more than two hours a day.

*Be active. One thing you’d like to do, as a kid, is to find out which activity you like best. Find ways to be active every day.
