1 .

This winter holiday was a different one for Chinese people. No Spring Festival getting together, no hanging out with friends. Instead, we had masks on our faces; traffic controls, delayed school days, temperature checks in public places.

Because of the outbreak of COVID-19(新冠病毒), the government called on everyone to stay at home as much as possible. Most people said they quite understood the new rules of the government and they did their own jobs to help fight the epidemic(疫情). Here are the stories of three teenagers and their families during the viral outbreak.

“I haven’t left my house for more than 20 days” Tong Zexin, a 15-year-old student from Harbin said. Sometimes he really wanted to run outside without a mask. “But I need to protect myself and cause no trouble during this critical time, and if someone gets sick, he may easily make others sick.” he said.

Li Mingyu is a fifteen-year-old boy from Lanzhou. His father is a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. The hospital he works in received several patients. Li’s father didn't have to treat the patients, but he made some traditional Chinese medicine and handed it out. “My father asks me to stay at home and study hard,” He said, “No matter what I will do in the future, I should be a good person and be helpful to society.”

On February 3rd, Zhao Junyan, a Grade 8 student from Shanghai, bought 15,000 masks from Indonesia back to China. Zhao, while travelling in Jakarta, he collected the masks with his uncle, who works in the city. With 5 huge suitcases, Zhao flew back and gave away all the masks to Cangnan, Zhejiang, his hometown. “What I have done is what a common Chinese person can possibly do.” Zhao said.

2 . If you go shopping in any toy store, you can see clearly the different games and toys for boys and girls: there are a lot of pink toys on one side of the store for girls and dark colored cars, guns, and soldiers for boys. Some big stores with toys may even have a pink floor for girls and a blue floor for boys. In fact, it is difficult to buy a toy for a girl that is not pink.

Some people think that too much pink is bad for girls. Sue Palmer, writer of Toxic Childhood, is very worried that most girls over the age of three are crazy about the color. According to some scientists, this happens for two reasons. Firstly, most companies offer too many products in pink. Also, many parents think their little daughter looks cute in pink. Sue Palmer says that girls at this age cannot make proper decisions by themselves, but the pink can affect (影响) the choices and the decisions they will make in the future.

Some parents are worried too. For example, Vanessa Holburn, thirty-two, who has two girls under the age of four. Their bedrooms are a sea of pink and Vanessa is not happy. “Pink says that you are soft and gentle. Blue says that you are strong and powerful. I want my daughters to be strong and powerful. I'm worried that pink will not help them with that,” she says.

But not everyone thinks there's something wrong with pink, Grayson Turner is a father of three girls and he isn't worried at all, “People forget that things change all the time,” he says. “My girls used to love pink when they were little but as they get older, they change.” Turner explains that his twelve-year-old daughter never wears pink clothes anymore. “This love of pink is just a fashion and all fashions change,” he adds. “It’s only since the 1940s that people have started dressing girls in pink-before that it was a color for boys.”

① 2019 marks the first year of the global commercial use of 5G. China is running ahead in this field. In March, 2019, the Shanghai Hongqiao Train Station became world’s first “5G train station”. What’s more, with the technology, it takes only 20 seconds to download a long movie. China is hopeful that we can even experience driver-less cars in daily life soon.

9 . In Hong Kong, most schools are very strict about what students wear to school. For example, they do not allow students to wear any kind of accessories, such as necklaces or earrings. Some people argue that small items, like simple earrings, should be acceptable. However, I feel that students should not be allowed to wear any kind of accessories to school.

Firstly, if students are allowed to wear accessories to school, they will be less focused on their studies. Instead of discussing schoolwork, they will spend time talking about accessories. For example, things like the latest trends or where to find them. Besides, if students are allowed to wear accessories to school, they will probably spend a lot of time reading fashion magazines and shopping. As result, they will spend far less time on homework and revision.

Another reason why I think accessories should not be allowed in school is that they can be very costly. Even if students choose not to buy designer accessories, they may still spend a lot of their pocket money on them. This is because there are many types of accessories available and they would probably want several items of each.

All in all, if students are allowed to wear accessories to school, it will distract(分散) them from their studies. In addition, it will cost them a lot of money. Therefore, I believe that students should not be allowed to wear accessories to school.

1. Which of the following things are accessories?
A.RingsB.SweatersC.ShoesD.Uniforms.
2. How do students probably get the information about new accessories?
A.By discussing schoolwork with friends.B.By chatting with some designers online.
C.By reading fashion magazines and shopping.D.By entering a school for only designers.
3. What is the writer's purpose of writing this passage?
A.To show different opinions towards whether students can wear accessories to school.
B.To argue why he thinks students should not be allowed to wear accessories to school.
C.To describe what accessories students are wearing to school in Hong Kong these days.
D.To advise more and more students in Hong Kong to wear simple accessories to school.
4. What is the structure of this passage?

10 . Have you ever heard of spirit bears? They are endangered members of the black bear family. One in ten black bears is actually born with a spirit bear.

Clover, a three-year-old spirit bear, lives at B.C. Wildlife Park near Kamloops, British Columbias, Canada. He lost his parents two years ago and was raised at a wildlife center.
