1 . Self-driving cars are believed to be the future of driving. Companies including Toyota, Uber and Google are all competing to be the first to bring them to market.
However, car makers need to solve one problem first: How driverless cars communicate with passers-by, bikers and other drivers. Most drivers today use gestures to show their purposes. They wave a car into a lane(车道), or nod at passers-by and cyclists, to let them cross the street. But self-driving cars don’t have this ability. What can they do? US carmaker Ford and its partner Virginia Tech think they have the answer, reported Business Insider. The team is testing a method that uses light signals to show what self-driving cars are doing. For example, if a driverless car is yielding, it could flash two white lights side to side. A solid white light tells there are no humans in the car. A slow blinking light shows the car is coming to a stop. A rapidly flashing light tells passers-by that the car is about to speed up. To test the method on real roads, the team designed a special suit that looks exactly like a car seat. When a driver wears it, it appears to people that the car is really driverless. The team then successfully got more than 1,500 hours of data after about 2,900 kilometres of “self-driving” through busy cities. The data recorded how people interacted with a driverless vehicle. Ford says they plan to share the data with 11 other companies, reported dogonews. com. The company wants to work with other carmakers to design a signaling system that would be understood by all.

6 . What is 5G? It is the fifth generation (代) of mobile network technology. These new networks are coming.
China issued commercial license (发放商用牌照) for 5G on June 6, 2019. This means that China’s Telecom (中国电信) companies have been able to offer 5G networks to mobile phone users.
Each mobile network generation is faster and more powerful than the one before it. 1G let us talk to each other. 2G let us send messages. 3G gave us data (数据) and the Internet. And 4G made all of these things faster. What’s special about 5G?
5G has a very short delay (延时) between sending and receiving information. Now, 4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds (毫秒) to send and receive data. But 5G will reduce the delay to 1 millisecond or less. This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster, but also deeply change our lives.
Entertainment (娱乐)
5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can download (下载) a movie in seconds.
Transportation
5G will also bring us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals (信号) to each other. 5G will allow cars to react (反应) even faster than real drivers.
Smarthomes
5G also makes the Internet of Things possible. Internet of Things is a large network that connects everything to the Internet. Smarthomes are part of it. For example, if its sensor feels the air becoming dry, a smart sprinkler (洒水器) can water your plants by itself.

8 . The first AI-driven (人工智能驾驶的) bus went on a road test in Shenzhen on December 2nd last year. So the unmanned (无人驾驶的) car is no longer a far dream.
Most people are excited about AI-driven cars. AI could be a “better driver” than humans as its reaction (反应) time is much shorter than humans’. Also, AI never gets tired and there is no fear of it driving under the influence (影响). Besides, when two humans drive too close on a road and one has to slow down to avoid (避免) an accident, both would expect the other to do so, and the problem could be serious because they cannot talk to each other. However, that problem will not happen to two AI-driven cars because they could “talk” through the cloud and decide which one should slow down.
But some people are worried. The test in Shenzhen was done on a special road. There are more uncertain things on real roads, such as being driven fast by some bad people. And the biggest problem for AI is not about learning to remember road signs, but about whether it can take instinctive (本能的) action in sudden and unexpected situations (情况). Also many cases of people taking control of the computers which are fixed in unmanned cars have been reported. This could be very dangerous.
All in all, AI-driven cars will keep improving and all the possible problems will be solved (解决) before they are widely used. We will meet them soon in the future.

9 . Man has invented four kinds of satellites. The first kind of satellites studies the geography of the earth. They are used to make maps. They also help countries to see where they may find oil or gold.
The second kind of satellites is used to guide ships and planes. A ship or a plane can send a message to the satellite, and the satellite can find out where the ship or the plane is.
The third kind studies the weather. These satellites watch clouds and strong winds moving across the earth. They warn countries to make preparations when very bad weather is coming.
The last kind is used for communication. Telephone calls between countries can be sent by these satellites. Some can carry hundreds of calls at the same time. The call is sent to the satellite, then the satellite sends it to a station in the country and this country is being phoned. These satellites also carry pictures; they can receive and send about eight programmes at a time.

10 . China has got very important findings into its space with great efforts, and in 2019, China became the first country to send a rover without astronauts to the far side of the moon. But it had to go at it alone in developing a space station, in part because it has been excluded(排除) from the International Space Station Project. The US leads that partnership with Russia, Europe, Canada and Japan but China. They will not co-operate with the Asian countries in orbit. China has had the first solid-liquid bundled(捆绑) launch vehicle and the Long March 6A rockets. China has successfully mastered a number of key new technologies such as launching the Pujiang 2 and Tiankun 2 satellites precisely into our planned orbits. This success shows that China has mastered solid-liquid bundled launch vehicle technology and has become a new member in the new generation launch vehicle family.
For the first time, our China has studied many useful technology ways to overcome many difficulties to sent the rover to the moon. These all depend on our scientists. They are working hard day and night to do lots of research by themselves. Because the scientists from other countries can’t give the knowledge to our China. So I advise our students to study harder to work for our Chinese space. I believe you can make it.
