If you love sightseeing, you can take a night cruise on the Pearl River. You can watch old buildings and also modern ones along the river. It’s also amazing to walk a    3     Haixin Bridge and get a bird’s-eye view of the whole city from Canton Tower.

If you enjoy n    4     beauty, you can go to Baiyun Mountain or Haizhu Lake. Guangzhou is known as Flower City, that is, you can see beautiful flowers e    5     in Guangzhou.

This summer holiday, my parents took me to have a 7-day j    1    .

First, we had a trip to Qingdao. We went there by car. It took us five hours to get there. It is a beautiful seaside city. After having lunch in a restaurant, we travelled around the city w    2     resting for a moment. We went swimming in the sea, and climbed Laoshan Mountain. There were many c    3     on the mountain. When we got to the t    4     of the mountain, we were tired but we were happy. We s    5     three days in Qingdao.

In the following four days, we went on a trip to Beijing. First, we visited the Summer Palace. It is a very beautiful park. We enjoyed o    6     there. Then, we went to the Great Wall. There is a famous saying, “He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man.” It was hard for me to climb the Great Wall. Sometimes, I need my parents to p    7     me up. F    8     , I got to the top of the Great Wall. And I became very excited. The Great Wall is w    9     enough for five horses to walk side by side. I even played games with my parents on it.

The total cost of the trip is about 4,000 yuan. It’s an experience that I will never f    10     .

4 . Beijing’s annoying smog s    1     to have hurt the city’s appeal to tourists. Last year ，Beijing Youth Daily reported that the number of visitors to Beijing   had   fallen   50   percent since January. It’s said that the city’s bad air q    2     was responsible for the decline. It’s also more difficult to a    3     high-end employees to work in Beijing, especially those with children.

H    4    , the blanket of poisonous smog hasn’t hurt Beijing’s office market, which has jumped up quickly on a g    5     ranking to become the fourth-most-expensive location to rent office space in the world. According to a recent research, office space in Beijing’s Central Business District c    6     on average $1,412 per square meter per year.

That’s more expensive than No. 5-ranked central Tokyo or No.6-ranked Madison & Fifth Avenues in New York. The research took into c    7     both published rental rates and “additional costs”，which i    8     agent fees and other costs to make the deal happen.

London remains the world’s most expensive city in w    9     to rent office space. Hong Kong, home to the priciest office space in Asia, comes in second globally. The cities experiencing the highest annual g    10     in office rental rates are both in South Africa with 40 percent rate for Durban and 44 percent for Sandton.

5 . My d    1     city is not very big, because I don’t like big c    2     like Beijing or New York. There should be a lot of people, playgrounds and restaurants in the city. There aren’t many cars and there isn’t a    3     traffic jam in the city. There should be a lot of free public bicycles a    4     the road for people to use. It is enjoyable and fast to r    5     a bike to have a short trip.

People are all rich in my dream city. They have enough houses to live i    6    . They have e    7     food to eat. There aren’t any beggars(乞丐).

My dream city is also very c    8    . People cannot smoke in the city. They are kind and f    9    . They often share happiness with each other. I h    10     to find such a city one day.

8 . High in the mountains of Peru, an ancient city hides in the clouds. The ruins of the city sit on a rides between Machu Picchu (Old Mountain) and Huayna Picchu (Young Mountain). Far below, the Uraubamba River flows through the forest. From below the city is h    1    . For nearly 450 years, the w    2       did not know        Machu Picchu, the City in the Clouds, was there.

Outsiders did not visit Machu Picchu until about 100 years ago. Hiram Bingham, an explorer and a professor from Yale University, was the first to come to the city. Bingham went to Peru to explore in 1909. In 1911, Bingham met Braulio Borda, a man who owned a large farm near Machu Picchu. Borda told Bingham that there were   some old b    3     covered by the forest in the mountains near his farm.

Traveling on horseback, Bingham went to Borda’s farm. Bingham climbed up to ridge and t    4     to his surprise, were the ruins of a lost city.

Bingham returned to the United States to tell o    5     about the City in the Clouds. Yale University and the National Geographic Society gave him money to return to Peru and remove the trees from the ruins.

Machu Picchu was built by the Inca. The Inca ruled a powerful empire in South America u    6     the Spanish conquered then in the sixteenth century.

Archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was a royal residence built by the Incan king.

However, the people of the great Incan city seemed to have d    7    . What   happened to the people of Machu Picchu? That remains a mystery. Around A.D.1450, Spanish soldiers captured many Incan cities. When the Spanish captured a city, they destroyed the temples. However, the temples at Machu Picchu were not destroyed. One theory is that a s    8     and serious disease killed the people of Machu Picchu. Another theory is that a group of people called the Antis f    9     the Amazonian jungle attacked and killed the people of the city.

Today, Machu Picchu is the most important tourist site in South America. Thousands of tourists visit d    10    . Archaeologists worry that too many tourists will damage the site. However, it will be difficult to stop people from visiting the City in the Clouds because the location is so beautiful.
