1 . Here we are at last Niagara Falls（尼亚加拉大瀑布）! We    1    （fly）from London to Toronto and then my dad hired（租用）a car and we drove to see the waterfalls. Wow-it's    2    fantastic place. 4 . Liyuan Library

Liyuan Library (篱苑书屋), known as one of China's most beautiful bookstores, is located in a small hillside village near Beijing.

The project, designed by architect Li Xiaodong, was built with 40,000 wooden sticks. In the village, Li found large amounts of wooden sticks piled around each house. The villagers gather these sticks all year round to fuel their cooking stoves (炉子). Thus they decided to use this o    1     material in a special way.

“This project is about the relationship of a building to the surroundings and i    2     role (角色) in serving the community (社区), rather than a building as an individual object,” Li told the visitors.

In the two-and-a –half years of the operation, Liyuan Library has experienced unexpected levels of use and appreciation. A new bus s    3     has opened close by for the frequent visits by thousands of people, including local villagers, tourists from the Beijing urban area, and many international visitors as well.

“Everybody is f    4     to visit,” explained Li. “However, visitors are encouraged to bring two books to the library, and take one back home from the collection in order to keep the place a center of k    5     exchange.”

Instead of adding a new building in the village, they chose this site in the nearby mountains, a pleasant five-minute walk from the village center. In doing so, they could p    6     a place for clear thoughts when one takes the effort to head for the reading room.

Li described his practice in the following way: “We try to m    7     technology, community, local materials, modern thinking and a traditional sense of identity together.”

5 . If the Slender West Lake is compared to a pretty young lady, the Five-pavilion Bridge(五亭桥) is like a beautiful belt worn on her. The Five-pavilion Bridge is not only the symbol of theSlender West Lake, b    1       that of Yangzhou as well. Built in the Qing Dynasty, it has ah    2    of over 200 years.The Five-pavilion Bridge, also named the Lotus Bridge, is a stone arch bridge(拱桥),which runs for o    3     50 metres across the lake. There are ceiling decorations inside the pavilions and windbells hanging   o    4    . They look like five flowers rising slowly out of water. The lower part includes 15 bridge openings of d    5     sizes.When you s    6     on the Five-pavilion Bridge, you will see the Fishing Terrace(钓鱼台).It is also called the Blowing Terrace, where the instruments used to be played. It’s said that

Emperor Qianlong once fished here. To s    7     him, the local salt businessmen of Yangzhou secretly chose several good divers and sent them carrying live fish down into the water. The divers were c    8     with lotus leaves, breathing through lotus stalks.

Whenever the emperor threw his line, the divers would put the live fish onto his fishhook. In this way, Qianlong wash    9     as the live fish took the bait at once.The terrace is surrounded by water on three sides, namely in the south, north and west, each side with a moon gate. From the west moon gate, one can see the Five-pavilion Bridge over the l    10     .

6 . This summer vacation, I took a trip to Weishui. It is in the southwestern part of Songzi City. It is really a very great place    1     beautiful mountains, a clean reservoir (水库) and kind people. Trees and flowers are everywhere. Every year lots of     2     (visit) come here to enjoy themselves.

Maybe you know Chaibuxi, Wufeng County(县). There are all kinds     3     strange stones. Some of the smaller stones look like beautiful girls, and the    4     (big) stones look like handsome men. Other stones look like cats, mice,     5     ['elɪfənts] and so on. Of all the stones, the stone like a beautiful girl in a legend(传说) is the most famous.     6     (she) name is Yannv. I am sure you know this name.

I also went to Qingjiang Gallery(清江画廊), Changyang County. A river runs through the whole county. If you go    7     the river, you will never get lost. It's easy for you     8     (find) your way. The people there are very     9     (friend). And they all like singing and dancing. We danced with them around the campfire(篝火) that night. I really had a good time.

Lofton is a little village in England. It is not f    1    from the city of Manchester.

Though(虽然) their homes are in Lofton, many people have jobs in Manchester. S    4     work in large factories there. A few work in shops o    5    offices. Most of these people go to work by train. It usually t    6    about half an hour to go from Lofton to Manchester. In the evening a lot of people like watching TV.
