Madagascar (马达加斯加) has two seasons, a warm, wet season from November to April, and a cool, dry season between May and October. But different parts of the country have very different weather.

The east coast is     1     (hot) and wetter, with up to 4000mm of rainfall per year. In the rainy season, there are strong winds, and these can cause a lot of damage. Avoid     2     (visit) eastern Madagascar between January and March     3     the weather can make road travel very difficult. The dry season is cooler and more     4     (please).

The high, central part of the country is much drier and cooler. About 1,400 mm of rain     5     (fall) in the rainy season,     6     some thunderstorms. The summer is usually sunny and dry,     7     it can be cold, especially in the mornings, with freezing showers, and it may snow in mountain areas above 2,400m, and even stay there for several days.

The western part is the driest part of the island. Here, the winter     8     (month) are nice with little rain, cool temperatures and the blue sky. The summers can be extremely hot,     9     (especial) in the southwest. This part of the country is semi-desert, and only gets around 300mm of rain     10     year.

The journey of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was marked by many important things.

The places of these things now also become “red revolutionary bases (革命圣地)”. The “red spirit” has a deep     1     on lots of Chinese people, both old and young.

For example, the CPC’s birthplace of Jiaxing in Zhejiang is     2     popular symbol of courage and pioneering (先锋) spirit. Jinggangshan in Jiangxi is known     3     the “cradle (摇篮) of the Chinese revolution”. Mao Zedong started the first revolutionary base there.

Other     4     such as Yan’an in Shaanxi and Linyi in Shandong are also “old revolutionary bases”. The CPC worked together with people to     5     against wars. A hundred years have passed,     6     these “revolutionary bases” have changed greatly. Some of them are no longer     7     villages, and others become popular tourist areas. There are many young people having grown up. They are     8     their best to work for their hometowns in many ways.

How are the young people from these places influenced by “red spirit”? How do they carry out the spirit in     9     daily lives? To answer these questions, TEENS has interviewed several local young people. “Their stories showed that the ‘red spirit’ would never be out of time. It will keep     10     us to work hard, feel thankful and serve others,” Wang Jie, a young man said.

Vibrant and versatile are the right words not only to brand Shenzhen’s personality traits, but also to describe its natural beauty. While newcomers     1     (impress) by the lush(茂盛的) green and the diverse landscape beauty of the city.

The park covers     5     18-kilometer-long stretch of the land along the southern coast of Shenzhen on the north shore of Shenzhen Bay, starting at the west near Shenzhen Bay Bridge and ending at the Hongshulin Nature Reserve. If you are a landscape photographer, the park has many     6     (opportunity) for you. Recommended locations to enjoy the sunrise are     7     Dasha River Park Road meets Shenzhen Bay Park and the park entry point near the Shenzhen Bay Park Metro Station. Shenzhen Bay Park is home to a variety of species of birds,     8     (especial) during winter. Many bird photography enthusiasts gather at this time of the year     9     (photograph) birds. Overall, Shenzhen Bay Park is one of the best places to visit in Shenzhen.     10     (it) nature and serenity will cast a spell over its visitors.

4 . In s    1     China, there is a beautiful city called Guilin. It l    2     on the two sides of the Lijiang River. Tourists enjoy t    3     a boat trip along it. It is great fun. It’s also popular to h    4     a bicycle and ride around the countryside.

All around the city of Guilin, mountains s    5     in different shapes. Many visitors like to visit Guilin because it has f    6     landscape.

The Reed Flute Cave is an u    7     cave. In this cave, you can see many rocks in unusual s    8     . Some rocks hang down. Others p    9     upwards. It’s amazing. The cave is praised a    10     the “Art Palace of Nature”.

If you are doing business about electronics today, you are sure to know about Shenzhen. For me, I am     1     Indian. My company     2     (success) sold the products made in Shenzhen in India, and that brought me to Shenzhen.

Shenzhen is one of China’s Special Economic Zones (经济特区) set up in the 1980s. It has grown to be a city famous     3     electronic products. Shenzhen is a modern city. You can get around in a taxi,     4     using metros or buses is much cheaper and more convenient. I visited only parts of Futian, Nanshan, and Luohu districts during my stay.

The     5     (one) place I visited in Shenzhen was the shopping area     6     sells almost all kinds of electronics at reasonable prices. In the evening, I hung out with my friends in that area and had great fun     7     (speak) to folks from the US, Germany, Australia and other     8     (country). In a word, we     9     (impress) deeply.

Although my trip was short, my visit to Shenzhen gave me a much     10     (clear) picture of this city. I am looking forward to my next visit!

7 . High in the mountains of Peru, an ancient city hides in the clouds. The ruins of the city sit on a rides between Machu Picchu (Old Mountain) and Huayna Picchu (Young Mountain). Far below, the Uraubamba River flows through the forest. From below the city is h    1    . For nearly 450 years, the w    2       did not know        Machu Picchu, the City in the Clouds, was there.

Outsiders did not visit Machu Picchu until about 100 years ago. Hiram Bingham, an explorer and a professor from Yale University, was the first to come to the city. Bingham went to Peru to explore in 1909. In 1911, Bingham met Braulio Borda, a man who owned a large farm near Machu Picchu. Borda told Bingham that there were   some old b    3     covered by the forest in the mountains near his farm.

Traveling on horseback, Bingham went to Borda’s farm. Bingham climbed up to ridge and t    4     to his surprise, were the ruins of a lost city.

Bingham returned to the United States to tell o    5     about the City in the Clouds. Yale University and the National Geographic Society gave him money to return to Peru and remove the trees from the ruins.

Machu Picchu was built by the Inca. The Inca ruled a powerful empire in South America u    6     the Spanish conquered then in the sixteenth century.

Archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was a royal residence built by the Incan king.

However, the people of the great Incan city seemed to have d    7    . What   happened to the people of Machu Picchu? That remains a mystery. Around A.D.1450, Spanish soldiers captured many Incan cities. When the Spanish captured a city, they destroyed the temples. However, the temples at Machu Picchu were not destroyed. One theory is that a s    8     and serious disease killed the people of Machu Picchu. Another theory is that a group of people called the Antis f    9     the Amazonian jungle attacked and killed the people of the city.

Today, Machu Picchu is the most important tourist site in South America. Thousands of tourists visit d    10    . Archaeologists worry that too many tourists will damage the site. However, it will be difficult to stop people from visiting the City in the Clouds because the location is so beautiful.

Wuyi Mountain, famous for its beautiful water and mountain scenery, is one of the most popular places in Fujian province. In Dec. 1999, it was included into the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Relics List. It became the     1     (four) mountain on this list in China after Taishan Mountain, Huangshan Mountain, and Emei Mountain.

Wuyi Mountain lies     2     the north of Fujian Province. Wuyi Mountain is hundreds of kilometers long, just like     3     green dragon flying among Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Guangdong Provinces. Wuyishan City is named after this mountain and has a long history.

In the 70-sq-km Wuyi Mountain, tourists can enjoy many     4     /'speʃl/ and unique natural features, like fantastic mountains, winding rivers, deep caves, strange     5     (stone) and so on. Wuyi Mountain is also a good place for green plants and animals. It is     6     /həʊm/ to about 2,527 plants and 5,000 wild animals.

Wuyi Mountain also has great cultural     7     historical value. Wuyi tea has an especially good reputation. Da Hong Pao tea in the area is     8     (consider) the king of teas. Of all the Chinese teas, it was the     9     (early) kind introduced into Europe and America.

If you come to visit Fujian, you shouldn’t     10     /mɪs/ it.
