Today, I’m going to tell you something about my trip to Dongqian Lake. Dongqian Lake is     1     largest natural lake in Zhejiang Province. I visited it last summer. It was my first time to go there. The weather was fine and the air was fresh. The flowers there not only looked beautiful,     2     also smelt nice. These gave me great pleasure!

We are staying in Hunan Province. I’m having a wonderful time here in Zhangjiajie, a city     1     is famous for the strange shapes of its mountains and rocks. Some of the rocks look like humans while others look like wild animals. Last night, we     2     woken up by some noise. We came out silently and found it was from a hungry monkey.

This morning,     3     I was walking along the river, I pulled some leaves off a tree. Lingling said it was wrong. I apologized and promised not     4     do that again. Tomorrow we’re going to Dongting Lake,     5     second largest freshwater lake in China. I can’t wait to fly there!

Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, and self-driving cars can f    1     the nearest parking space themselves? Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a “smart” city like this could happen sooner t    2     you think.

Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, and     3     (complete) new cities are being built. Songdo is a typical city. Motuo lies in the south of the Himalayas in Tibet. It is known as the “Natural Museum of Tibet”. It is home to all     1     (种) of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, plants and animals. Its     2     (特殊的) geographic location makes it a beautiful place, but meanwhile, one of the hardest places to reach. It was the last city in China     3     (没有) a highway.

The construction (建设) of the highway to Motuo started in the1960s. However, it was not completed     4     (直到) over 50 years later. In 2013, the Motuo Highway was opened.

The highway is 117 kilometers long. To make it     5     (更安全的), the two-way highway is open in only one direction every other day. It is a great engineering project. Why is that?

In this area, earthquakes and heavy rains happen very     6     (经常). There could be falling rocks or even landslides. People must build many walls and nets to     7     (保护) the highway.

Another challenge is the snow. Large amounts of snow sometimes destroy rocks and roads. As a result, the construction of the highway to Motuo was stopped several times. To     8     (解决) this problem, people built a tunnel (隧道) that goes through the mountain area.     9     (最后), Motuo is no longer shut off to the world.

The highway stands for the Chinese     10     (精神) of “never giving up”. It is a way to connect Motuo to the outside world and shows how China looks after people in the far areas.

Beijing 2022 was the first international multi-sport event to be held on schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic. Athletes were kept safe within a closed loop(闭环), preventing any imported cases (输入性病例) from s    7     to the outside public. “With an infection rate (感染率) of 0.01, it was one of the safest places on the p    8    , if not the safest place on the planet, and this is a great achievement,” said Bach.

The popularity of ice and snow sports is growing around China. The country has achieved its goal to engage (使参与) 300 million people in winter sports. Winter sports facilities (设施) have even spread to the s    9     parts of China where winters are warmer. For example, an indoor ski resort (滑雪场) opened in Guangzhou. The Sunac Snow Park is as large as 22 soccer f    10     and has received more than 2 million visitors since it opened in 2019.

7 . Weifang in Shangdong Province is not a very big city. But Weifang is well-known as the birthplace of kites in China. It has a long history of     1     (make) kites.

According to a local     2     (art) , Weifang kite-making dates back to 2,000 years ago. At first, the army used kites to measure distances and send     3     (message). During the Ming Dynasty(1368—1644), kites became popular among ordinary people.

Kites are made from bamboo and decorated with     4     (tradition) Chinese paintings. Weifang kite-making was included in     5     national-level intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) list in 2006. Weifang     6     (hold) the International Kite Festival each year since 1984.

Yang Hongwei, 56, was born in a kite-making family in Weifang. After practicing the skill for 10 years, she set up her own shop in 1992. On her kites, people can see not only common patterns     7     butterflies and birds, but also some prints telling Chinese myths (神话), legends (传说) and history. Yang talked     8     details with experts and made lots of effort     9     (check) historical records.

In her free time, she travels to many countries, including Germany, Australia, the United States and New Zealand. She tells the stories of Chinese kites they made. “It is an important job of     10     (my) to spread our culture around.” she said.

I come from Cambridge, a beautiful city in the east of England. It is on the River Cam and     1     (have) a population of about 120,000. My hometown is     2     (especial) famous for its university. Many famous people     3     (study) here. There are lots of old buildings and     4     (church) to visit. Students and tourists enjoy trips along the river     5     boat. London has a population of about seven and a half million, so it is     6     (big) and busier than Cambridge. England itself     7     (be) a part of an island, and you are always near the sea. In England, you will notice     8     green the countryside is wherever you go. It is neither very hot in summer     9     very cold in winter. So come and see England any time of the year, but please remember     10     (bring) an umbrella with you. You will need it most days.

In Singapore, cultural differences are shown in buildings, styles, shops and in many other ways. Take food as an     1     (例子), each culture has its own place to sell their traditional food, but there are also the     2     (著名的) Hawkers Markets. Different foods are sold here in these     3     (繁忙的) markets. And there very popular with Singapore citizens and     4     (游客) from around the world. The food is good and very     5     (便宜的).
