As a new in the school, I really wanted to have some good friends two months ago. My classmates Lisa, Tina and Nancy seemed to be closer to me, so I really expected to be friends with them. Although we don’t have a lot in common, I tried to please (取悦) them.
I spent an hour playing tennis with Lisa every Tuesday afternoon, though I was not good at it. I didn’t like playing chess, but I had to watch chess games with Tina every Wednesday afternoon. And every Thursday afternoon, Nancy always asked me to enjoy classical music which I knew nothing about.
A month later, we grew apart gradually. I was so sad and told my stories to my grandmother. She didn’t say too much but gave me a saying: “I don’t know the secret to success, but the secret to failure is trying to please everyone.”

8 . Zhang Jianna is a 49-year-old city cleaner from Chaoyang District, Beijing. She has studied English alone for about 10 years. Now she can speak English with foreigners and help them when they are in need.
Zhang became interested in learning English in 2014. She worked in the Sanlitun embassy (大使馆) area at that time. One day, when she was working, a man from another country asked her for help.
