3 . On Saturday morning, John got up early to go to a sports club. On his way, he saw three of his schoolmates at the mall, Rae, Asoka and Aduki. They were always together because they were very good friends.
“I’m shopping for new shoes,” Rae told John. “But I have big feet so nothing fits! We have been shopping everywhere but I can’t find any big shoes!”
“And we walk very slowly,” Aduki said, “because of Asoka…”
“I know,” John said, looking at Asoka. “I heard you hurt your knee in P. E. class yesterday. Does it hurt?”
“It’s OK if I move very slowly,” Asoka told him. “We are going to eat ice-cream at Dairy Queen. Do you want to come?”
“Sorry, I can’t. I am going to meet Edward at the sports club. See you later!” said John.
John was walking past a coffee shop when he saw Ms. Kanga. She was looking at a new sidewalk. As John came closer he could see that Ms. Kanga was angry. “Somebody jumped in the middle of the sidewalk when the cement was still wet!” she said, pointing to two small footprints in the new cement. “Now I can’t go home because I have to fix the sidewalk!”
“Who did it?” asked John.
“A first-year student over there said that three girls were walking by here just now. But he doesn’t know which girl jumped in the cement!”
Three girls? “Small” footprints? Somebody “jumped”? “I know who did!” said John.

4 . One day, while his mother was out hunting, the gray cub (幼兽) found the way out of the cave (洞穴). At first, he was afraid. But the need to know and understand was greater than his fear, so he went out. He soon learnt that the floor of the world was not flat like the floor of the cave. And he fell, screaming in fear.
But he soon sat up, and started walking and looking around him. He met a squirrel, and a woodpecker, both of which moved away from him. So he learned that the world had things that stayed in one place, and other things that moved.
He had beginner’s luck when he fell into a ptarmigan’s nest. In the nest were seven chicks. He realized this was meat, like his mother gave him. So he ate them all. As he walked away from the nest, the mother ptarmigan (雷鸟) attacked him. He fought back, biting her wing with his small teeth. He was excited and happy. He was fighting for meat, fighting to kill. It was what wolves did. He learnt another important lesson.
Then he left the ptarmigan free and rested. As he watched her, something rushed down from above him, picked up the ptarmigan and flew back up into the sky. It was an eagle.
He was learning. Live things were meat, but if they were big enough, live things could also hurt. It was better to eat small live things.
Later something small jumped in front of him, so he put his paw on it. It was a young weasel (鼬鼠). It made strange noises, and soon the mother weasel appeared. She jumped at his neck and bit him with sharp teeth. She wasn’t big, but he didn’t know how dangerous weasels were.
Suddenly she jumped, and bit into his throat. He tried to fight, but the weasel held on. The cub was sure to die, but luckily his mother, the she-wolf, heard his frightened calls and came to save him.

10 . Going to a movie now has been a part of our life. But have you ever thought of blind people watching movies?
64-year-old Wang Fokun lost his eyesight in his fifties. He had to give up his hobby of watching movies then. But in the past two years, a theater has helped him to get his love for the cinema back. Every Saturday, Wang travels 40 minutes to “watch” a movie.
It’s at Xindeng Theater in Kunming that Wang “watches” the movie. With the help of volunteers, Wang enjoys himself along with many other blind people. The volunteers describe what is happening on the screen, including when the story happens, what the actors or actresses look like, what they are doing…Thanks to the description, the blind can throw themselves into the movie. They laugh when something funny happens and cry during sad scenes.
The task of describing the movie is not as simple as it sounds. The volunteers must be familiar with every scene in the movie. “I watch a movie at least three times and write down every small part,” one of the volunteers said. And they have to practice many times before they do the job. However, they all enjoy the experience. “We’re glad to bring enjoyment to the audience (观众) by explaining the movie,” they said. So far, thousands of blind people have enjoyed more than 100 films described by them. They all agree that the volunteers do a great job.
