3 . Here's one very simple but lifechanging piece of advice that I first heard from Brian Tracy. Cut down on the TV at night by just one hour. Instead, use that hour to read books that could improve your life.
If you're a salesman, google for the best and most useful books on improving your sales.
This applies to all fields, not just the work-related ones. Maybe you want to improve your health, become a more energetic person. Or maybe you want to improve your study, your relations or perhaps do some personal development.
One hour a day is not much. But if you read for one hour a day on weekdays, that's about 260 hours a year. That's a large number of books and a lot of useful advice.
If you follow the ideas, who knows what great things and feelings could come into your life. Also, all that information and advice will start to open up your mind. You will start to see more chances in your life.
Now, you might think something like this:
1. I really don't have the money...
Answer: Visit your public library or search the database. Or look for books that are used in places like amazon.com.
2. I really don't have the time...
Answer: Buy audiobooks and listen to them in the car while driving to and from work. Or copy them to your MP3-player and listen while riding your bike /bus to work or school. Recently selling audiobooks through MP3-downloads has become popular...
Shut off the TV a little earlier and start reading.

5 . The way we cook is important. In many countries, the two sources of heat used for cooking are natural gas or electric stoves. The World Health Organization(WHO) warns that millions of people are dying every year from indoor air pollution. The WHO finds that poor cooking, heating and lighting technologies are killing millions of people each year.
Indoor air pollution results from the use of dangerous fuels and cook stoves in the home. WHO officials say nearly three billion people are unable to use clean fuels and technologies for cooking, heating and lighting. And they say more than seven million people die from exposure to indoor or outdoor air pollution each year. Of that number, the WHO says about 4.3 million people die from household air pollution given off   by simple biomass(生物燃料)and coal stoves.
These findings show that the home use of poisonous fuels is to blame for many of these deaths. These fuels include wood, coal, animal waste and so on. Carlos Dora is Coordinator in the WHO’ s Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health. He says people should not use unprocessed coal and kerosene(煤油)fuel indoors. He says opening a window or door to let out the harmful air will not correct the situation. It will only pollute the outdoors. “New technologies and clean fuels can rid people of this problem.”
The United Nations found that more than 95 percent of families in sub-Saharan Africa depend on solid fuels for cooking. It says huge populations in India, China and Latin American countries, such as Guatemala and Peru, are also at risk.
Nigel Bruce is a professor of Public Health at the University of Liverpool. He says researchers are developing good stoves and other equipment to burn fuels in a more efficient way.“There are already many technologies for clean fuels available now. An effective and reasonably low-cost ethanol(酒精)stove that is made by Dometic (a Sweden-based company)is now being tested out. Another interesting development is electric induction stoves.” In India, you can buy an induction stove for about $8. And in Africa you can buy a solar lamp for less than $1.
1. How is Paragraph 2 mainly developed?
A.By making classifications.B.By listing numbers.
C.By following time order.D.By describing a process.
2. According to Carlos Dora, what is the best solution to indoor air pollution?
A.People should use an effective air cleaner.
B.People should use new technologies and clean fuels.
C.People should open a window or door to let out the harmful air.
D.People should prevent themselves from being exposed to harmful air..
3. What can we learn from the passage?
A.Most of the deaths from indoor pollution are in developing countries.
B.Burning solid fuels can help limit indoor air pollution .
C.People can buy ethanol stoves made by Dometic in India.
D.There are already two technologies for clean fuels available for use.
4. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A.The way we cook is changing.
B.Cause of indoor air pollution.
C.The development of electric stoves.
D.Indoor air pollution kills millions each year.

6 . More than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed across the globe each day, and it’s likely that many taste bitter.
Now, a new study suggests that coffee fans can make their drink taste sweeter by simply changing the colour of their cups.
Scientists claim that blue and glass mugs, which are popular in some coffee shops, can reduce coffee’s bitterness, without any need for sugar, and that coffee drunk from white cups tastes the bitterest.
To prove their claims, the researchers invited 36 volunteers and used three different colored cups -- blue, white and transparent glass -- to do an experiment.
In the experiment, coffee consumed from the white cup was found to taste less sweet when compared to the other two colored cups, while the blue cup made the coffee taste the sweetest.
The scientists believe that the colour brown may be associated with coffee’s bitterness because coffee in a white cup appears the brownest and tastes the bitterest.
“Our study clearly shows that the colour of a coffee cup does influence the perceived (感受到的) taste and flavor of coffee,” said Dr George Doorn of Federation University Australia, “but the potential effects may be different between a one-time purchase and a return customer.”
“Anyhow, the effect of the colour of the cup on the flavor of the coffee suggests that café owners, baristas (服务员), as well as coffee cup manufacturers should carefully consider the colour of their cups, ” he added.
However, the idea that colour can alter the taste of food and drink is not new.
A study published last year revealed that red, strawberry-flavored mousse (慕斯蛋糕) served on a white plate was rated as 10 percent sweeter and 15 percent more flavorous than the same food presented on a black plate.
1. What color of the cup can best reduce coffee’s bitterness without adding sugar?
A.Blue.B.Brown.C.White.D.Transparent.
2. The scientists used ________ to do the experiment to prove their claims.
① different brands of coffee
② different colored coffee cups
③ several volunteers
④ several manufactures
A.① ②B.② ③C.② ④D.③ ④
3. Why does coffee in white cups taste the least sweet?
A.Because white cups are not as beautiful as other cups.
B.Because white cups make coffee appear the brownest.
C.Because white cups reduce the sugar in them.
D.Because white cups are better used to serve cakes.
4. According to the article, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Black plates increase the sweetness of food and drink.
B.Strawberry-flavored mousse is 10 percent sweeter than coffee.
C.People consume more than 2.5 billion cups of coffee across the globe every year.
D.People can make coffee taste sweeter by changing the color of their coffee cups.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文讲述了吃货文化的含义与发展,并讲述了吃货们开始自己动手做饭,以及相机和社交软件的发展对吃货文化的推动。

8 . You may have noticed something different when you ate at your favorite restaurant. Or perhaps you picked up on it while looking through your social media apps (社交媒体软件) . You guessed it——we’re becoming a foodie (吃货) culture.

For some, that means photographing every dish, but others are taking it one step further. Sophia Hampton, a senior at Staples High School in US, chooses to make her own food. She has been published in Future Chefs, a cookbook of recipes (食谱) by teens.

Hampton’s best advice for those who want to be foodies is to get in the kitchen.

“Start cooking,” she said. “There are so many resources online, like recipes and articles about food. Go to your local farmers’ market and start cooking with them.”

Besides blogs and online resources, there are also hands-on cooking classes for students. The Chopping Block, a Chicago cooking school, offers many different classes for teens, including courses on chocolate and French food.

By attending cooking classes, surfing online and going to restaurants, you can find endless recipes. But sometimes becoming a real foodie means being behind a camera. As our food-loving culture becomes more popular and teen-friendly, social media apps like Facebook, have become major players in food culture.

“Getting involved in foodie culture is as easy as having a camera and a social media app,” one foodie said. “I always go to streets and farmers’ markets to take beautiful pictures of food. Wherever food prices are expensive, the photos are free.”

1. What does Hampton advise those who want to be foodies to do?
A.Post their recipes online.B.Cook food by themselves.
C.Eat at their favorite restaurant.D.Take photos of every dish they eat.
2. Where can students find new recipes, according to the article?
① cooking classes                ② online resources     ③ new restaurant          ④ public libraries
A.①②③B.①③④
C.②③④D.①②④
3. What has made foodie culture more popular, according to the article?
A.People’s growing interest in traditional culture.
