文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述安德鲁在学校里总是一个人吃饭,没有朋友,他的母亲为此很担心。有同学发现这个情况后主动接近安德鲁,与他成为了好朋友的故事。

1 . Andrew Kirby was used to sitting alone at lunch. The high school sophomore was never especially social and making friends hasn’t been easy. He was born with a neurological disorder and has undergone several major surgeries over his life.

“A lot of times at lunch I’ll text Andrew,” explained his mom, Kay Kirby. “I said, ‘Are you eating with anyone?’ And he said ‘No.’ And I sat at my desk at work and just prayed ‘Good Lord, please send somebody to eat with him.’”

But that changed on the first day of school this year when members of the Student Council noticed that Andrew was eating alone and invited him to join them.

“If we were sitting by ourselves, we would want someone to sit with us so we didn’t want kids to have to sit by themselves,” one student said. Added another, “Everyone needs to have someone and anyone can be a help with that.”

“It’s very encouraging to know that there are teenagers out there that took their time. They weren’t being in their own clique, they weren’t being selfish, and they took their time to reach out to somebody who might be different. And you know, you never know what a child is going through—maybe they’ve got a bad home life, maybe they’re depressed, and there’s a kid sitting by themselves and they noticed that,” Kay said. “I have peace at lunch now. I don’t feel like I need to text him and check on him.”

What started as a small act of kindness has even gone beyond the lunchroom. The group invited Andrew to go to the movies with them a couple weeks ago.

What’s more, he’s been eating lunch with them every day since.

1. What problem did Andrew have at school?
A.He wasn’t easy-going to deal with.B.He liked to eat alone at lunch.
C.He was joked more by his classmates.D.He had trouble spending time with others.
2. What does the underlined word “that” refer to?
A.Sitting alone at lunch.B.Undergoing major surgeries.
C.Texting at lunchtime.D.Making friends.
3. What does Kay feel now?
A.Worried.B.Pleased.C.Puzzled.D.Embarrassed.
4. What does Kay think of the teenagers?

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文讲述是如何处理青少年中来自同龄人压力的建议。

2 . As you grow older, you’ll be faced with some challenging decisions-like whether to cut class or try cigarettes. Making decisions on your own is hard enough, but when other people get involved and try to pressure you one way or another, it can be even harder. People who are at your age, like your classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, or get you to do something, it’s called peer pressure.

Peers can have a positive influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system (太阳系). Maybe you got others excited about your new favourite book, and now everyone’s reading it. These are examples of how peers positively influence each other.

Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them; your soccer friend might try to convince (说服) you to be mean (吝啬,小气) to another player and never pass him the ball.

It is tough to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.

You’ve probably had a parent or teacher advising you to “choose your friends wisely” Peer pressure is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who don’t cut class, smoke cigarettes, or lie to their parents, then you probably won’t do these things either, even if other kids do.

If you continue to face peer pressure and you’re finding it difficult to handle, talk to someone you trust. Don’t feel guilty (内疚) if you’ve made a mistake or two.

1. For whom is the passage most probably written?
A.Students.B.Parents.C.Teachers.D.Doctors.
2. In the last three paragraphs, the author mainly________.
A.explains why friendship is so importantB.gives advice on how to deal with peer pressure
C.discusses how peers influence each otherD.shows how to make more good friends
3. Which of the following may help handle (处理) peer pressure?
A.Spending more time with classmates.B.Taking up more relaxing hobbies.
C.Choosing friends with no bad habits.D.Helping others who are in trouble.
4. What is the topic of the passage?
A.Friendship.B.Making decisions.
C.Self-confidence.D.Peer pressure

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章认为社交媒体会给用户带来各种影响,有积极的,也有消极的,人们应该理性使用社交媒体。

4 . By now, we are all aware that social media has had a tremendous influence on our culture, in business, on the world-at-large. Social media websites revolutionized the way people communicate and socialize on the Web. However, aside from seeing your friend’s new baby on Facebook, or reading about Justin Bieber’s latest conflict with the law on Twitter, what are some of the real influences?

Social networks offer the opportunity for people to re-connect with their old friends and acquaintances, make new friends, share ideas and pictures, and many other activities. Users can keep pace with the latest global and local developments, and participate in campaigns and activities of their choices. Professionals use social media sites like LinkedIn to enhance their career and business development. Students can work together with their peers to improve their academic and communication skills.

Unfortunately, there are a few downsides too to social networking. If you are not careful, immoral people can target you for cyber bullying and disturbance on social sites. School children, young girls, and women can fall victim to online attacks which can create tension and suffering. If you are a victim of cyber bullying, do not take it lying down, but try to take appropriate legal action against the attacker.

Many companies have blocked social networks as addicted employees can distract themselves on such sites, instead of focusing on work. In fact, studies show that British companies have lost billions of dollars per year in productivity because of social media addiction among employees.

Also, what you carelessly post on the Internet can come back to trouble you. Revealing (泄露) personal information on social sites can make users vulnerable (易受伤害的) to crimes like identity theft, stalking, etc. Many companies perform a background check on the Internet before hiring an employee. If a potential employee has posted something embarrassing on social media, it can greatly affect their chances of getting the job. The same holds true for our relationships too, as our loved ones and friends may get to know if we post something undesirable on social networks.

Social media has its advantages and drawbacks as each coin has two sides. It is up to each user to use social sites wisely to enhance their professional and social life, and exercise caution to ensure they do not fall victim to online dangers.

1. Paragraph 2 mainly shows that social networks ________.
A.help students finish their homeworkB.offer professionals good chances
C.benefit users in various waysD.guide users to make right choices
2. Faced with problems caused by social media, some companies ________.
A.forbid the use of social networks during work time
B.avoid posting embarrassing information
C.refuse to hire potential addicted employees
D.take legal action against the attackers
3. The main purpose of this passage is to ________.
A.share experiences in using social mediaB.remind people to wisely use social media
C.provide some advice on social problemsD.raise public awareness of social problems
4. Which of the following shows the development of ideas in this passage?
A.B.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文阐述了学生到了新的学校,遇到了新的老师同学,在一个陌生的环境里,怎样度过新学年的第一天。

5 . It’s school time again! You’re probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. Luckily, these “new” worries only stick around for a little while. Let’s find out more about going to a new school.

Most teachers kick off the new school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the stuff you’ll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class, too. When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules and school rules so you’ll know what’s allowed and what’s not. Please pay close attention.

You might already know a lot of people in your classes on the first day, but it’s a great day to make a new friend, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don’t. Make the first move and you’ll be glad you did, and so will your new friend!

Seeing friends you haven’t seen for some time can make the first day a good one. You can make the day feel special by wearing clothes that you really like. Maybe you got a great T-shirt on one of your vacations, or a pair of sneakers (运动鞋). It also can make you feel good to be prepared and have all the things you need, such as pencils, folders, and whatever else you’ll be needing. But make sure that you pack them the night before in case you don’t have time in the morning.

1. The underlined phrase “kick off” in the second paragraph probably means “________”.
A.startB.studyC.findD.learn
2. The last paragraphs mainly tell us about ________.
A.what to know about a new schoolB.how to prepare for a new school
C.what to do on your first day of schoolD.how to spend your first day of school
3. According to the passage you usually do everything on the first day of school except ________.
A.introduce yourselfB.learn about the school rules
C.make new friendsD.go over your lessons
4. If you happen to see an old friend on the first day of school, from the passage we know that you will feel ________.
A.nervousB.madC.happyD.upset

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。作者主要通过回忆少年时代送奶员给自己带来的快乐,想念那时的岁月,逝去的总是美好的和有趣的。

10 . When I was a boy growing up in New Jersey in the 1960s, we had a milkman delivering milk to our doorstep. His name was Mr. Basille. He wore a white cap and drove a white truck. As a 5-year-old boy, I couldn’t take my eyes off the coin changer fixed to his belt. He noticed this one day during a delivery and gave me a quarter out of his coin changer.

Of course, he delivered more than milk. There was cheese, eggs and so on. If we needed to change our order, my mother would pen a note — “Please add a bottle of buttermilk next delivery” — and place it in the box along with the empty bottles. And then, the buttermilk would magically (魔术般) appear.

All of this was about more than convenience. There existed a close relationship between families and their milkmen. Mr. Basille even had a key to our house, for those times when it was so cold outside that we put the box indoors, so that the milk wouldn’t freeze. And I remember Mr. Basille from time to time taking a break at our kitchen table, having a cup of tea and telling stories about his delivery.

There is sadly no home milk delivery today. Big companies allowed the production of cheaper milk, thus making it difficult for milkmen to compete. Besides, milk is for sale everywhere, and it may just not have been practical to have a delivery service.

Recently, an old milk box in the countryside I saw brought back my childhood memories. I took it home and planted it on the back porch (门廊) . Every so often my son’s friends will ask what it is. So I start telling stories of my boyhood, and of the milkman who brought us friendship along with his milk.

1. Mr. Basille gave the boy a quarter out of his coin changer to __________.
A.show his magical powerB.pay for the delivery
C.satisfy his curiosityD.please his mother
2. What can be inferred from the fact that the milkman had the key to the boy’s house?
A.He wanted to have tea there.B.He was a respectable person.
C.He was treated as a family member.D.He was fully trusted by the family.
3. Why does home milk delivery no longer exist?
A.Nobody wants to be a milkman now.B.It has been driven out of the market.
C.Its service is getting poor.D.It is not allowed by law.
4. Why did the author bring back home an old milk box?
A.He missed the good old days.B.He wanted to tell interesting stories.
C.He needed it for his milk bottles.D.He planted flowers in it.
