文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。气候变化不仅威胁我们所居住的环境,它还对我们的情绪健康构成了非常现实的威胁。本文主要介绍了“生态焦虑”,并分析了它的影响以及应对策略。

1 . A recent global study, which surveyed 10,000 young people from 10 countries, showed that nearly 60 percent of them were extremely worried about the future state of the planet. The report also showed that nearly half of the respondents (受访者) said that such distress affected them daily, and three-quarters agreed with the statement that “the future is frightening.” This, and many other studies, show clearly that climate change is not just a threat to the environment. It also poses a very real threat to our mental health.

Psychologists have classified these feelings of sadness, distress, and worry about the current climate emergency as eco-anxiety. According to the Climate Psychology Alliance, eco-anxiety is defined as the “intense physical and mental discomfort in response to dangerous changes in the climate system.”

Eco-anxiety doesn’t just affect young people. It also affects researchers who work in climate and ecological science, burdened by the reality discovered in their findings, and it affects the poor people across the globe, who hopelessly bear the harmful impacts of climate breakdown.

In recent years, we’ve seen wildfires tear through Canada and Greece, and summer floods destroy regions in Pakistan that are home to nearly 33 million people. Studies have shown that those impacted by air pollution and rising temperatures are more likely to experience mental distress.

The cause of this mental distress is absolutely external. According to Caroline Hickman, a researcher on eco-anxiety from the University of Bath, anyone experiencing these emotions is displaying entirely natural and rational reactions to the climate crisis. Her suggestion? Take eco-anxiety as a tool for good-as an emotion that can urge people to act in protection of our planet.

This is why, in 2024, we will also see more people around the world join the fight for climate justice and apply for jobs that seek sustainable development. Eco-anxiety is not something we will defeat with therapy—we will solve it by taking action.

1. What does the underlined word “distress” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Shock.B.Anxiety.C.Happiness.D.Anger.
2. What is eco-anxiety according to the Climate Psychology Alliance?
A.It is a strong reaction to the natural disasters.
B.It is a kind of mental disease for the young people.
C.It is a physical and mental discomfort when we meet difficulties.
D.It is a strong physical and mental discomfort for the dangerous climate changes.
3. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?
A.The process of eco-anxiety.B.The impact of eco-anxiety.
C.The causes of eco-anxiety.D.The benefits of eco-anxiety.
4. What’s the approach to solving eco-anxiety according to Caroline Hickman?
A.Defeat it with a therapy.B.Just wait for a good solution.
C.Join the fight for climate justice.D.Use it to urge people to protect our earth.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。针对在未来社会的不确定性背景下,对需要培养什么样的人进行了论述。

3 . For many years we have talked about education in a changing society but have done little to educate for uncertainty. Perhaps the best insurance we can offer for this uncertainty is the presence of a good mind. To develop a good mind the student must learn how to learn and develop a taste for learning. The world of tomorrow needs flexible individuals, intelligently mobile individuals, individuals who can land on their feet when their jobs become technologically outdated, and individuals who can deal with the unexpected.

To educate for flexibility we must distinguish between training and education. To train is to emphasize immediate goals to neglect (忽视) the long-term growth. To educate, however, is to foster (培养) limitless growth to develop the good mind.

An inevitable element in education for flexibility is an attitude favorable to change. This is hard to develop. It requires faith in oneself and in the future. Then, what can the school and college do to build an attitude more favorable to change? Certainly they can and must develop the self-confidence of students, and build them up with repeated success instead of constant failure. Schools and colleges can help students admire what is admirable and provide continuing guidance in how to become a real person having faith in the future and having a good mind of his own.

To meet the striking social changes of the future, continuing education is a necessity. As Native Americans noted, you should keep on learning as long as you're ignorant. The flexibly educated person knows that today's fact may be tomorrow's misconception. So we should raise awareness of lifelong learning.

The test of a modern society capable of meeting change with accelerated (加速的) evolution instead of revolution does not lie in asking, “Is everybody learning?” To be learning is not only a condition for survival; it is also the basis for being richly alive.

1. What does the underlined words “land on their feet” mean in Paragraph 1? ________
A.Rise to their feet.B.Keep the feet on the ground.
C.Stick to convention.D.Get out of a difficult situation.
2. What can schools and colleges do to develop flexibility? ________
A.They can offer short-term training to students.
B.They can help students develop a good attitude to life.
C.They can build up students’ confidence with constant success.
D.They can stimulate the sense of pride of students and teachers.
3. What can we infer from the passage?________
A.Real education is aimed at long-term growth.
B.A flexible mind could turn misconception into truth.
C.Evolution speeds up the changes of the modern society.
D.Lifelong learning is the only guarantee of a bright future.
4. You can read this text in a/an ___________.
A.reference bookB.journal of education
C.traveling magazineD.art book

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,作者通过自己到美国的经历,学到了一条非常重要的原则:只要你不放弃,几乎所有的困难最终都会消失。

4 . I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt’s house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then. I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.

I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see — the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving never to come back was hardly in my head then.

The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost — having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried, and things became even more complex for me. Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other. I was often sad, and saw no end to “the hard times.”

My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with Immigration officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.

From my experiences I have learned one important rule: almost all common troubles eventually go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.

1. How did the author get to know America?
A.From her relatives.B.From her mother.
C.From books and pictures.D.From radio.
2. Upon leaving for America the author felt ______.
A.confusedB.excitedC.worriedD.amazed
3. What can we learn about the author from Paragraph 4?
A.She worked as a translatorB.She attended a lot of job interviews
C.She paid telephone bills for her familyD.She helped her family with her English
4. The author believes that ______.
A.her future will be free from troublesB.it is difficult to learn to become patient
C.there are more good things than bad thingsD.good things will happen if one keeps trying.

文章大意:本文是夹叙夹议文。文章主要讲述作者对读书的喜欢和对读者的建议。

6 . It has been heard for years: technology is ruining our lives. We are often told that it weakens our eyes light and productivity. I don’t buy into that mindset(心态) because we all have free will and can limit our technology intakes responsibly. However, one of the strongest bad effects of the technological age has been the downfall of reading books.

Before we had phones, books were sources of entertainment. I know I’m not the only one who spent nights as a child with a flashlight hidden under my covers so that I could finish a book when I was supposed to be sleeping. I still remember one of my favorite novels was Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, from which I learned about the value of friendship.

Reading a book often feels even more pleasant than watching a movie. We create our own worlds, pictures of the characters and views of the events described. Reading requires complete focus, so it pulls us out of our daily lives, our fears and our problems. Reading a book brings us into a state of peace and adventure, letting us dive into others’ worlds.

Reading a book takes time and requires attentions, which is almost impossible in a world in which plenty of distractions(使人分心的事) exist at the mere opening of a phone lock screen. Many people even report feeling distracted by their phones while watching TV. If people are feeling distracted when watching TV shows, how can they focus on reading a novel, a task that requires complete attention?

I was recently on vacation and found myself on an eight-hour plane ride with no Internet access. At first, this seemed unbearable, but then I remembered I had packed a book in my bag. I started the book, and within minutes, I was totally absorbed. I spent the rest of my journey reading it.

I advise anyone wanting to rediscover the joys of reading, to simulate(模拟) the environment I was forced to enter into by getting on the airplane. Turn your phone off and find a quiet space. Pickup an old favorite book from childhood or a new one. Then, sit down and begin to create your own world.

1. What can we know about the author?
A.She was into reading in her childhood.
B.She suffered from sleeping problems.
C.She prefers watching movies to reading books.
D.She thinks technology is bad for her health.
2. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The decline of reading habits.
B.The influence technology has on reading books.
C.The benefits of reading books.
D.The reasons why people are less likely to read books.
3. How did the author feel about reading a book on the plane?
A.It drove her mad.
B.It failed to bring her peace.
C.It made her stay focused.
D.It helped her fall asleep quickly.
4. What’s the author’s suggestion on reading?
A.Reading a book aloud.
B.Creating an undisturbed environment.
C.Finding an electronic book.
D.Practicing your attention and patience every day.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章主要介绍了Sora这个强大的AI工具并对其在改变人工智能应用前景方面的强大程度展开了讨论。

8 . Many got sleepless nights after Sora amazed the world with its remarkable ability of creating videos directly from text instructions. Discussions about what the artificial intelligence model can do and make a difference continue.

Some said it could give a huge blow to traditional industries such as film and television making, looking forward to the day when a movie can be created right after a novel is put into the model. But others remain skeptical about how powerful the model can be in changing the landscape of AI application.

Developed by a group of young talent from Microsoft-backed company OpenAI, the text-to-video model can generate videos up to a minute long while maintaining visual quality and adherence to the user’s prompt.

Shen Yang, a professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University , said, “Sora represents a revolutionary leap in the field of AI-generated content (AIGC).”

As one of the leading scholars in AI research in China, Shen leads a team that studies the philosophy of AI. Until he learned about Sora on February 16, Shen was quite satisfied with his team’s AI-generated videos. A two-minute video on the Spring Festival produced by Shen’s team have recently won many likes on social media platforms. “Compared with the new model Sora, what we used are tools of the previous generation. There’s a huge gap in between," said Shen.

As a frequent user of AI, Shen said the technology not only helps improve his productivity, but also benefits his daily life. His wife was suffering from cancer and many complications, and he used AI to assist in finding treatment, which has remarkably prolonged her life. He even wrote an award-winning science fiction novel using AI.

However, new technologies do not mean good news to everyone. Many also concern about AI models’ safety issues since related regulations are lagging behind.

Sora is going to bring changes in many fields, including short video, film and television, news, games, advertising, education, and even industrial manufacturing, according to Shen. There is still much room to improve AI models. For instance, current AI models are not capable of drawing characters accurately and quickly. Shop signs lack meaning in Sora’s demo video showing a woman walking down a street in Tokyo. But these problems are believed to be solved as models update.

1. Which of the following might have similar meaning to the underlined word in Paragraph 2?
A.push.B.strike.C.warning.D.bonus.
2. What can we know from the passage?
A.All people can not benefit from the new AI technologies.
B.AI model’s safety isn’t concerning despite lagging legal restrictions.
C.The AI-generated videos by Shen Yang’s team were better than those created by Sora.
D.The text-to-video model was developed by a group of young talent from Tsinghua University.
3. What kind of attitude does Shen have towards Sora?
A.Favorable.B.Objective.C.Unconcerned.D.Reserved.
4. Which of the following is the best title?
A.Sora: An AI video.B.Video Making: AI Models.
C.Sora: A Powerful AI Tool.D.Video Making: Future of AI.

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道,文章主要报道了被称为“加沙牛顿”的15岁少年发明为帐篷供电的照明装置,带给难民光明。

10 . Hussam Al-Attar, a 15-year-old boy in Gaza, is able to build a device to provide electricity for the lamps of the tent he is staying in with his family.

Al-Attar got two fans at a resale market and used them to create small wind turbines (涡轮) to produce electricity. His invention led others in the camp where he stayed to start calling him the “Newton of Gaza”. That comparison involves the English scientist, Isaac Newton. Newton is known for his major scientific discoveries in the fields of physics, mathematics and astronomy more than 300 years ago. A famous story about Newton describes how an apple falling on his head led him to discover the nature of gravity.

Al-Attar and his family are staying in a tent that is partly attached to a house. He was able to climb onto the roof to set up two fans, one above the other. The wind could turn the fans, which produced small amounts of electricity. He then connected the fans to wires and built a charging station. Al-Attar also built switches to control a lighting system made out of wood.

Al-Attar’s first two attempts failed, and it took him a lot of time to develop a working system. He started developing it further, bit by bit, until he was able to extend the wires through the room to the tent, so that the tent would have light. He was happy to be able to create something to help ease “the suffering” of his family members. Now, he is just looking forward to the future when conditions can improve in Gaza.

“I am very happy that people in this camp call me the ‘Newton of Gaza’,” Al-Attar said. “Because I hope to achieve my dream of becoming a scientist like Newton and creating an invention that will benefit not only the people of the Gaza Strip, but the whole world.”

1. Why did Al-Attar buy two second-hand fans?
A.To light his tent.B.To cool his home.
C.To challenge Newton.D.To learn to repair a device.
2. Which of the following did Al-Attar use to power his invention?
A.Sunlight.B.Electricity.C.Burning wood.D.Flowing air.
3. What can we learn from Al-Attar’s devotion to his invention?
A.Personal ability is boundless.B.Patience is the key to success.
C.Family support determines success.D.Failure tends to discourage motivation.
4. What did Al-Attar mainly convey in the last paragraph?
A.His future goal.B.His great achievements.
C.The benefits of his camp.D.The hardship of his creation.
