Teenagers sometimes turn to extreme methods to slim down quickly in a society where being thin is often seen     1     being beautiful. According to a recent survey of senior high school students’ lifestyles, almost one fifth of teenagers     2     (regular) skip meals, one in ten over-exercise and four per cent even take weight-loss medicine. Experts are concerned about     3     (them) health. They are increasing their efforts to educate teenagers about the side     4     (effect) of losing weight too quickly. They have also warned them       5       using such extreme methods, which are harmful.

It is normal for teenagers to be slightly overweight and there is no reason     6       they should be worried. However, for those who are dangerously overweight, it is very important that they try to lose weight properly.

Therefore, it is important to have a healthy     7     (balance) diet since teenagers are still growing and their bodies need a lot of nutrition       8     (function) well. What’s more, they should keep regular hours and get plenty of exercise to stay     9     (energy) and fit. We strongly encourage teenagers to follow these lifestyle tips, because living well is the     10     (safe) and most effective way to get into shape.

2 . Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.

Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf causes serious water shortage in some local areas.

There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.

Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment   and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They   are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces.

There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.

A.It eats up city areas of Portugal and Spain.
B.It causes water shortages around the world.
C.It needs water and energy to keep its courses.

2. Why does the author use power walking as an example in Paragraph 3?
A.Because it is cost-effective.B.Because it improves our health.
C.Because it is an outdoor sport.D.Because it uses fewer resources.
3. What does the author probably recommend according to Paragraph 4?
A.Cycling around a lake.

China’s women’s basketball team was beaten by the United States in the final of the FIBA World Cup in Sydney. The silver medals that the Chinese were left with still represented their country’s best finish in the global showpiece in 28 years. Not since 1994 – in a tournament (锦标赛) held, like this one, in Australia – had they won a medal of any colour.

At the World Cup, China played a total of eight matches, winning six of them. They entered the final of a major international competition for the first time in almost three decades, before losing to defending champions the United States to finish runners-up for the second time in history.

China’s performance at the tournament received much attention from Chinese people both at home and abroad, especially as the final fell on the country’s National Day. Chinese flags were waved and the national anthem (国歌) was sung in the stadium, giving people a feeling that the team was playing on their home court.

Although losing the game, the team was met with praise and encouragement from Chinese netizens as people have walked away from a “medal-oriented” mentality, and started to accept more the spirit of sportsmanship and “perform your best” spirit. Many Chinese netizens said they were proud of the players for trying their best and fighting until the last minutes which showed the true sportsmanship. The mental strength and quality of the Chinese women’s basketball team are even more valuable than being the runner-up in the World Cup, they said. The Chinese women’s basketball team is already the champion in our hearts, commented an internet user.

“We should admit the gap in the strength between the two teams. However, the women basketball players have presented an exciting game, playing good defense and never hesitating to attack. I am so proud of them, and it is special our National Day.” said one Weibo user.

1. What makes this final most impressive?
A.Winning the six matches as a whole.
B.Entering the final competition of all time.
C.Meeting with our country’s National Day.
D.Receiving much attention home and abroad.
2. How do Chinese netizens feel about China’s winning silver medals?
A.Surprised and upset.B.Excited and inspired.
C.Annoyed and grateful.D.Encouraged and curious.
3. Why do people feel that the team was playing on the home court?
A.The team won the silver medals after 28 years.
B.The match received amounts of attention globally.
C.China’s women’s basketball team entered the final.
D.Chinese flags and anthem sprang up in the stadium.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Our country’s National Day.B.Our gratitude to the coach.
C.The FIBA World Cup history.D.A special gift for the National Day.
