2 . When he did it, all 16 hours, 46 minutes and nine seconds of physical and psychological hell, his father told him: “You woke up this morning as a boy with Down syndrome.     1

Chris Nikic. He’s 21.

He made the unrealistic his reality.     2     Last fall, he became the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman triathlon — a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run.

Chris Nikic is not just an Ironman — he’s a superhero. “Since the race, we have received thousands and thousands of messages from people around the world who are inspired by his journey.     3     They have kids with special needs or Down syndrome. And so it’s touched Chris and touched us quite a lot.” said Chris’ father, Nik Nikic.

4     Because he lets them use him as a mirror to look inwardly and say, ‘Look, if he can do so much with so little, what can I do with what I’ve got?’ It’s not about him — it’s about how he makes other people feel about themselves,” Nik Nikic said.

Chris Nikic’s story spread among the staff at Special Olympic Missouri. As explained by Brian Neuner, chief development and marketing officer, “    5     And so, this was just an amazing example of where his ability was realized, even though he has a disability. 3 . The COVID-19 illness causes mild or moderate symptoms for most but severe symptoms are more likely in the elderly or people with existing health problems. Most infected patients have recovered from it so far.

The leader of the IOCS coordination commission for the Tokyo Olympics says there is no May deadline to cancel the games and he remains confident the event will go ahead despite sports coming to a stop globally amid the coronavirus epidemic. John Coates, who will have to go into government-mandated self-isolation when he returns to Australia this week from Olympic business in Europe, told the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper: “It’s all proceeding to start on the 24th of July.” Dick Pound, a former IOC vice president, said that the end of May seemed to be a possible deadline for the IOC to make a call on the Tokyo Olympics. But Coates told that the IOC didn't recognize the deadline and he thought Pound had backed away from it, too.

The latest measures, which include bans on gatherings of more than 500 people, came in the wake of the suspensionz(暂停) of sporting events in parts of the world affected by the virus outbreak. That has caused postponements and uncertainty for qualifying in some Olympic sports, although the IOC and Tokyo organizers have consistently said the games will go ahead as scheduled. As for athletes traveling to Japan from affected countries. Coates said some national Olympic committees were already preparing. “The Chinese are probably the best organized,” he told the SMH. “The Chinese are in various parts of Europe and the last I heard is they're bringing them all together in a university in Paris where they'll be fully contained, 600 of them, and they will go straight from there, straight into Japan. They won’t put anyone on a plane who has got coronavirus.

2. What can we infer from John Coates’ words in Para. 2?
A.All sports games will start on July 24.

5 . Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.

Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.

There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.

Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.

Move More
