“There are a lot of unsustainable and unrealistic workouts on TikTok, and even some dangerous advice,” said Jess Brown, a certified personal trainer in Westchester, New York. “What’s more, much of the fitness information on TikTok isn’t backed by science or posted by fitness professionals. The workouts are usually generalized to anyone, too, and don’t take into account your health, your family history, your flexibility, your range of motion—the list goes on,” said Monica Jones, a certified personal trainer in Washington, DC.
One of the more popular TikTok fitness trends involves developing your abdominal muscles. These challenges often show an influencer doing one exercise or series of movements that, if repeated daily for a week or two, is promised to result in a sexy six-pack. “No way,” Brown said. “We’ve proven again and again that spot reduction isn’t a thing.”
“Unfortunately, there will always be trends centered around getting fast results, because those grab people’s attention. But it’s important to look at your fitness and health as a lifelong journey, not something you can achieve within 10 to 90 days,” Jones said.
How can you separate quality workouts from dangerous ones? First, check the information of the posters. They should be certified fitness professionals who have experience working with people. You also want a coach who emphasizes improving strength and health, not one who focuses on body type. A quality influencer should encourage mental well-being, self-care and the importance of listening to your body in addition to physical fitness.

It is hard not to desire victory in all your efforts when the world seems so competitive and especially if you’re a boy growing up with those values. A boy grew up in a similar environment where winning was all that was valued and he longed to succeed. The boy was good at running, so he called everyone in the nearby villages for a race. A large group of people came to see this exciting event!
The boy had been training hard for this race. He ran among the strongest boys from around the villages and it looked like heat on a finish line, but the young boy came out victorious! The crowd went wild with delight as they cheerfully waved banners(横幅) praising him. The boy loved the attention. It made him feel happy.
There were several types of races, sprint, long distances, relays etc. The boy was unbeatable in all the races he competed in. The crowd loved him even more after each victory; they clapped with excitement. The boy felt very proud of his accomplishments.
But among the crowd was a wise older man who did not seem as impressed with the boy’s victory as the rest. Just as the boy thought all the races for the day were over. The old man shouted from the crowd, “there is one more race left—the most important one.” The boy was surprised by the additional race, but he was confident he could win any race.
The old man brought two new competitors for the boy, a blind man and a weak old lady. “What type of race is this? I can easily win them.” the boy exclaimed. “The most important one,” said the old man. So, the boy ran the race as he knew he would win this time too. When the boy crossed the finish line, the blind man was still at the start and the old lady had just started to move. The boy raised his hands after his victory, waiting for the familiar cheering.

7 . Here’s what Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: “It is only ideas gained from walking that have any worth.” Researchers have discovered numerous connections between walking and producing ideas. A Stanford University study found that participants were 81 percent more creative when walking in contrast with sitting.
The movement aspect of walking is obviously key. You’ve probably heard the phrase “exercise your creativity”, which refers to the brain as muscle. Our creative mindset is triggered (触发) by physical movement, which is exactly why walking-with your dog, a friend, or alone-feeds creative thinking.
But the scenery is almost as important as the sweat. The National Human Activity Pattern Survey indicates that Americans spend 87 percent of their time indoors. Being inside, you’re more prone (倾向于) to stagnation, the opposite of energy. Without energy, you can’t wonder or create. Just by going outside, you are stepping out of your habitual surroundings and your comfort zone, which is necessary if you want to open your mind to new possibilities.
Our brains work harder to process in different environments, so walking outside develops our ability to learn new ideas, to take in new sights, sounds, smells, and flavors. Shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” is a common form of relaxation and medicine in Japan. It was developed in 1982, and recent studies show that being in the forest and walking among the trees lowers your stress levels. But you don’t have to live near a forest to receive the psychological benefits. Research has shown that being in nature, and the disconnection from multimedia and technology, increased performance on a creative problem-solving task by a full 50 percent in a group of hikers.
So instead of setting a fitness goal, why not set a creativity goal that starts with walking? Engage more closely with your surroundings for the next four weeks. Turn off your phone and give yourself the chance to be present in the world, to hear conversations and natural sounds, to notice the way people move, the way the sun reflects in a puddle. Walk not just for exercise. Walk for wonder.

10 . A fourth-grade star athlete has made headlines for keeping up with high schoolers. However, it’s not for the honor. The selfless student is a guide runner for a blind autistic (患自闭症的) teen who needs a helping hand on the cross-country track.
Rebel Hays, 11, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, stepped up as a guide runner for a ninth-grader, Paul Scot, when West Fork High School put out a call for volunteers. Paul, their student, wanted to compete.
As they ran together, the pair became good friends. “Paul and Rebel’s story is so much more than running,” said Rebel’s mother, Lou Ann. “Paul doesn’t have many friends, so Rebel doesn’t just guide him a traces. They also spend time together,” she said, telling jokes. “Paul is grateful for his young guide’s direction.” “Rebel directs me whether there’s a ditch (沟)or there are hills, who encourages me to run faster.” Paul said.
In honor of their partnership, West Fork High School wrote a post on Facebook. With the help and direction from Rebel, Paul finished 59th out of 135 runners in the 3A boys race at the state Meet in Hot Springs in early November. Paul still has one more year of eligibility (资格) for cross-country and has now set a new goal of under 20 minutes.
