With the weather getting warm, last week our school’s annual sports meeting was held on as scheduled. The opening ceremony, in it each class performed a marvelous march, was splendid. During the competitions, players on behalf of their classes spared no effort to reaching their maximum ability. I took part in the 800-meters race. I had worked out regular and made full preparations after the sports meeting. Determining and confident, I won first prize and bring honour to my class. During the sports meeting, not only we reduce our pressure, but we also gained an insight into how sportsmanship is.

On the afternoon of last Friday, the English speech competition, organized by our English club, was held in our meeting hall. It begun at 3:00 p.m. and Mr. Lee, our leading English teacher, gave an inspired opening speech. Then two students started to host the competition with both English and Chinese. Fifteen students were attended the competition and each gave an excellent English speech. If the competition finished, the competitors were ranked and prizes were presented to the first sixth speakers. The competition has received positively comments from students and teachers. They both believed that it could encourage more students show interest in English learning.

As we all know, sports play an important role in children lives. Children who competes in a sport will learn how to deal with stress. This is because even though they work hardly to master the skills needed for a sport, but it does not mean they will always win. Sports also help children see that foolish cheating is. In sports, it is no use pretending to fall down or being hurt, because in the end, the audience will see through it. Taking active part in sports event is fun but not always easy. Therefore, it helped children learn how to deal with failure, something that someone must learn to face in life.

In recent years, Lake Baikal, the deepest freshwater lake, has paid much attention to because of a extreme sport. Each March, about 150 people signed up for the Baikal Lake Marathon. They come to explore the lake's extraordinarily beauty and challenge themselves in unpredictable conditions. And on March, the ice is a meter thick and very hard. Runners cross the frozen surface, finishing on the western sides of the lake. Knowing as the “blue eye of Siberia," the lake has clear water. When seen from above, runners on the ice look as if he were jogging through space. The landscape might to be beautiful but it is a severe test. Runners say the cold climate is that draws them.

Growing up in Jamaica, Luis didn't know about basketball until he arrived in the US at the age of twelfth. At his new school in the new country, he showed no interest in play basketball at all. One day, he met the boy named Tom at his school, but soon they became good friends. Tom was fond of playing basketball and ask Luis to do that with him. At first Luis wasn't interesting. Jack Green was the football coach at an American college. He was appointed to find good players, and they weren’t smart enough to be accepted.
One day, the coach has brought an excellent player to the director of the college and suggested the student allowed to enter without an examination. “Well,” the director said after thinking for a while, “I’d better ask you a few questions first.” Then the student was called for and asked some easier questions, but he didn’t know any of the answers. At last the director said, “Well, what is thirty – four minus two?” It was quite a long time when the student answered, “Thirty – three.” The director threw up his hands and looked at the coach disappointed, but the coach said, “Oh, please let him in, sir! In our school, a variety of elective course are available. I have taken the table tennis course, and it is an amazed experience. Play table tennis every week helps to build up my body and relieve my stress. With the teacher’s help, I have learned how to make the eyes, brain or muscles work together after a whole morning’s study. Besides, the table tennis course is also good for character develop. In games, I have learned to cooperate with others in doubles, who will help me to have team spirit in your future career. I have come to realize that elective courses benefit to us both physically and mentally. I believe that they will have great impact on us as time went by.
