文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了徒步旅行能给人们带来什么好处。

3 . Taking exercise in a crowded, noisy gym will improve your muscle but may not make much difference in your stress level. By contrast, hiking improves not only your physical fitness level, but your mental health as well. “I hike with friends every week. Whether I am wandering down a flat path along a river or climbing a rock y mountain in the wilderness, hiking can be beneficial to me because it exposes (使接触) me to outdoor scenes such as mountain s and rivers, which can always offer me good ideas about paintings and music,” Marry Copper, a hiker said.

Experts agree that hiking reduces stress. According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA), hiking increases the body’s production of endorphins, a type of chemical that improves mood (情绪). Endorphins also help you sleep more soundly, which will lower your stress level. However, not all scientists agree that hiking raises your endorphin level. Instead, some researchers believe that hiking causes the release of the chemical norepinephrine, which helps make you less excited or upset.

The controversy (争议) is ongoing, but it is clear that however it happens, hiking is useful when you are feeling anxious. Hiking can also help improve your confidence. Walking down a path is a repetitive motion, which can lead your brain into relaxing; you may “zone out” to the point where you won’t be thinking about anything in particular. Being outside in the open air may also help you exercise better because most people do indoors; getting out from under a roof can lift your spirits.

Hiking may improve your mood more than a gym workout will, but your risks are also greater. People sometimes try to make their own way rather than stick to established paths. They are proud to say they like to have an adventure. However, people who try to do something new could be attacked by wildlife and get hurt and lost. So stick to the known roads and bring a cellphone with you, and always tell someone where and when you are going hiking, even if you have a partner going with you.

1. Why does Marry Copper like hiking?
A.She dislikes exercising in the gym.B.She can meet new friends when hiking.
C.She can draw inspiration from nature.D.She has the spirit of adventure in the wilderness.
2. What do we know about the study of hiking?
A.Scientists have reached an agreement.
B.Sound sleep can increase the body’s endorphin level.
C.Stress is caused by the body’s production of endorphin.
D.The chemical norepinephrine could make people calm.
3. What is the author’s attitude towards exploring new roads during hiking?
A.NegativeB.PositiveC.ObjectiveD.Unclear
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.How can hiking cause controversy?B.Why do people like exercising outdoors?
C.What do hikers like to do in the wilderness?D.What benefits can hiking bring to people?

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。作者通过记述进入大学之后的第一次划船比赛表明尽全力比赛就是最好的奖品的道理。

4 . When I entered Oxford University, I wasn’t particularly interested in joining the rowing club. I just wanted to know what it is like to row in one of those narrow boats, so I signed up with the intention of quitting after the first session. At least that’s what I thought.

Six months later, I found myself sitting in a rowing boat with three teammates, waiting for a 2000-meter race to start. In the boat alongside us sat a crew from the university’s team, two of whom had won medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. My crew was only rowing at college-level and we had only trained a few times as a team, so facing such strong athletes was quite terrifying. I tried to focus my mind on the race, not on my opponents.

Go! We pushed off with all our might and rowed as fast as we could. As we reached the halfway mark, the other crew was ahead of us. But to my amazement we were gaining on them. If we could win the race, we would get through to the final! We pushed even harder, ignoring the pain in our legs and drawing energy from the cheers of our college friends. I could already sense the sweet taste of victory.

But then, disaster. One of my teammates lost control of his oar (桨), knocking him nearly out of the boat. We came to a sudden stop, and watched as our opponents crossed the finishing line. It was the most disappointing moment in my life. I wanted to punch my teammate who had ruined everything and push him into the water. But when I saw how angry he was with himself, I gave him a hug.

Although we lost, I’m still proud of how well we did that day facing a much stronger team. What I remember now is the thrill of racing, not the pain of defeat.

1. What was the author’s attitude to rowing in the beginning?
A.He was curious about rowing.B.He was fond of rowing.
C.He was eager to win in a rowing race.D.He was tired of rowing.
2. How did the author feel when he and his team reached the halfway mark?
A.Worried.B.Terrified.C.Disappointed.D.Surprised.
3. Why did they lose the game?
A.A group member made a mistake.B.The opponents were too strong.
C.They were worn out.D.They hurt their legs.
4. Which can be the best title of the text?
A.Nothing is impossible.B.Trying your best is the best award.
C.The early bird catches the worm.D.Never quit until the last minute.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一种名为SWIFT的自行车游戏,介绍了其原理、优势以及人们对此的态度。

5 . Back in January, my partner and I resolved to take exercise seriously. This would mean spending hours every week working out, stretching and sweating our way to better health, which is something that is particularly difficult when you glance at the weather outside and see dark clouds on the horizon.“It looks like it is about to rain. I guess I’ll go for a run tomorrow instead.”But then just as we were on the edge of giving up again, we discovered a brilliant new way to make exercise better: by turning it into a videogame.

SWIFT is a cycling game that you control by pedaling your real bike, which is fixed onto a device called a turbo-trainer. As you pedal, the trainer sends signals back to your computer to control the character on screen. And smartly, the game sends back instructions to the trainer to apply different levels of resistance, so that as you’re cycling up a hill in the game, you can actually feel it on the bike.

So, after restoring our small garage and signing up for a $12 per month subscription, we had our TV, bike and all-important cooling fan ready to go.

Once you’re ready, you can participate in virtual cycle rides in 3D-recreations of real places, like London and New York, or fictional locations. And importantly, other real human cyclists appear alongside you, sharing your journey.

The genius of the design is that it has used lots of the tricks of traditional videogames to keep pushing you a little bit further and harder: go a little faster, and you’ll be rewarded with a little achievement marker, and if you pedal harder, you might win a race against another real player. It’s essentially generating some sort of dopamine(多巴胺)hits that riding along on a traditional exercise bike simply can’t match.

I’m not the only person who has noticed this. Today many other companies in the tech industry are chasing the same users, and they all offer their own unique versions.

1. Why was it very difficult for the author and his partner to maintain exercise routine?
A.They didn’t have enough time.
B.The weather was unpleasant.
C.They lacked proper equipment.
D.Their garage needed restoration.
2. Which is NOT a must for SWIFT users?
A.A real bike fixed onto a turbo-trainer.
B.A subscription to access cycle rides.
C.An all-important cooling fan.
D.Outdoor running equipment.
3. Why does the design of SWIFT attract its users?
A.It offers its own special versions.
B.It helps them to master accurate weather information.
C.It uses videogame tricks that provide rewards for performance.
D.It provides professional training programs tailored individually.
4. What is the attitude of the tech industry towards the idea of SWIFT?
A.Favorable.B.Objective.C.Unclear.D.Doubtful.

7 . The rate of childhood obesity in the U. S. has tripled over the past 50 years. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) made waves this year by recommending that doctors put obese kids as young as two years old on intensive, family-oriented lifestyle and behavior plans. It also suggested prescribing weight-loss drugs to children l2 and older and surgery to teens 13 and older. This advice reflects the organization’s adoption of a more active position on childhood obesity.

Yet the lifestyle programs the AAP recommends are expensive, inaccessible to most children and hard to maintain. Few weight-loss drugs have been approved for children. And surgery has potential risks and few long-term safety data. Furthermore, it’s not clear whether interventions in youngsters help to improve health or merely add to the psychological burden overweight kids face from the society.

Rather than paying close attention to numbers on a scale, the U. S. and countries with similar trends should focus on an underlying truth: we need to invest in more and safer places for children to play where they can move and run around, climb and jump, ride and skate.

Why is it so hard to get kids moving? Experts blame the problem on the privatization of sports — as public investment in school-based athletics dwindles, expensive private leagues have grown, leaving many kids out. In addition to fewer opportunities at school, researchers cite increased screen time and a lack of safe places for them to play outside the home. New York City, for example, had 2,067 public playgrounds as of 2019 — a very small amount for its large population. In Los Angeles in 2015, only 33 percent of youths lived within walking distance of a park.

Kids everywhere need more places to play. Public funding to build and keep up these areas is crucial, but other options such as shared-use agreements can make unused spaces available to the public. These opportunities aren’t primarily about changing children’s waistlines — they’re how we keep childhood healthy and fun.

1. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A.Childhood obesity is well under control in recent years.
B.Weight-loss surgery are recommended to children 12 and older.
C.AAP plays a more active role in fighting against childhood obesity.
D.Expensive as it is, lifestyle programs are practical for most children.
2. The underlined word “dwindle” is closest in meaning to ______.
A.declineB.quitC.increaseD.develop
3. In the author’s opinion, what measures should be taken to create more safe areas?
A.Prepare fitness equipment at home.
B.Live within walking distance of a park.
C.Promote investment in private athletics.
D.Open up playgrounds when school’s out.
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Sports play an important role in children’s growth.
B.More safe areas for outdoor fun are in urgent need.
C.Family-oriented lifestyles are crucial to children’s health.
D.Medical intervention is important to ease psychological burden.

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道。文章主要报导了癌症幸存者Andrea Mason成功完成三项全能运动,并成立自己的慈善机构帮助更多的女性。

9 . A cancer survivor has become the first woman to complete an exhausting “Sea to Summit” triathlon (三项全能运动), which saw her swim, cycle, and run over 330 miles in just five days. Andrea Mason was overjoyed when she crossed the finish line early Wednesday morning.

The race was set in the French Alps. Setting off at 6:15 am on Friday, 39-year-old Mason battled through severe pain, and hallucinations (幻觉), but she pushed on — managing to complete the race in an impressive four days, 23 hours, and 41 minutes. Andrea had been diagnosed with cancer and needed life-saving surgery. Following a successful operation, she is now hoping to raise awareness of women’s health. In the past year, Andrea set up her own charity, Lady Talk Matters, in order to improve surrounding females’ health.

Andrea, from Blackpool in Lancashire, England, said, “I am so happy all went according to the plan as there were so many things that could have gone wrong. I wanted to do it in five days and I did so, but it was very tough. I had some low moments, particularly when I couldn’t sleep in my limited rest periods, and when I couldn’t keep any food down as I was running. For sure, I had some doubts along the way as I was exploring the unknown with such a huge run, particularly as large parts of it were in the dark. It was bigger than I imagined. The impact on my body was huge. But every time I felt like giving up, I thought about all the women out there in pain or who still hadn’t been diagnosed. That is why I put myself through this.”

Andrea had to swim 23 miles around Lake Annecy, cycle 205 miles with 30,000 feet of vertical climbing around Mont Blanc, and run 105 miles with 4,000 feet of vertical climbing around The Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc. You could say Andrea’s actually spent a lifetime training for an event like this. She completed her first three-mile race “powered by chocolate bars” when she was just four.

1. Why is the woman special?
A.She won first in the race of the triathlon.
B.She survived cancer and finished the triathlon.

A.An organization for helping people in need.
B.A group of people meeting for a very amusing game.
C.A group of people chosen to make decisions or schedules.

3. What problem did Andrea meet with during her race?
A.She lost her way due to the darkness.
B.She couldn’t swallow food while running.
