2 . High school is difficult for everyone. You are going through an awkward time and you may either fit in (适应) right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in (or not), joining a club will be good for you in the short term and long term.

Joining a club is a great way to meet new people, especially if you are new to the school. Joining a club forces you to communicate with people who have similar interests as you. Even if you are the shyest and quietest person, you are sure to develop a relationship with at least one person in the club that you decide to join. Speaking from personal experience, I have met some of my best friends from my extra-curricular activities and had many new doors open to me.

Another really nice thing about joining a club is that doing activities looks good on college applications. Being known as outgoing is a highly valued trait (特质); it shows that you are willing to put yourself out there, be determined, and best of all try new things. Another nice thing is that (depending on the activity) it could help you develop skills that you could use during a college interview.

Productivity is something that teens seem to continuously have a problem with. Most teens go to school and then come home and spend the rest of the day in front of the television or phone, but activities prevent this. Teens are also very easy to influence and if they fall in with the wrong crowd they may have to face consequences (后果) such as problems with the law. Clubs are a great place to spend time and be with good people who you can fall back on if you need them.

Maybe the most important reason why you should join a club is the long-term benefit (益处) it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, keeping an eye on the time, and being organized are things you will use every single day of your life.

4 . The China International Search and Rescue Team(CISAR) was formed in 2001 and is now made up of several hundred rescue workers and about 20 police dogs. The team brings help and hope to those whose lives are changed by a storm, flood, earthquake, or any other natural disasters.

After long and careful training, the team went on its first international rescue tasks in 2003. That year, the Chinese team helped save lives after earthquakes in Algeria and Iran. It was the first time that a Chinese team had worked outside China whose members won high praise for bravery and skill.

Since then, the CISAR has completed many tasks. The list of people to whom help has been given is long. The team treated more than 3,000 people who were wounded in the 2006 earthquake in Indonesia, helped 2,500 wounded people after the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010, and spent several months giving aid to over 25,000 people suffering from the 2010 floods in Pakistan. On April 26, 2015, a group of 62 people from CISAR went to Nepal after the 8.1 magnitude earthquake that happened there.

Rescue workers are trained to find people, treat wounds, and hand out food, water, and other supplies. They have to be able to do work that is difficult under conditions which can be very dangerous. After a disaster, there is usually no electricity or water, and there may be diseases and other dangers. Rescue workers get to save lives, but they must also bury the dead. That means they have to be strong in both body and mind.

8 . Zhang Ying, 23, could have been a news host after four years studying broadcasting and talk show hosting at the university. So could Du Xintong. Instead of just becoming talking heads on TV, they decided to use their knowledge to help millions of children with speech disorder to find their own voices. They co-founded Voice Changer, which offers language rehabilitation(复原)for teenagers in China through online and in-person service platforms.

According to Zhang, each child needs to finish at least one three-month course, which consists of three 40-minute sessions a week. The length of the overall training program is dependent on each child's condition upon their evaluation.

“When we are teaching in-person courses, the parents cannot accompany their children. The children may feel a bit nervous in a strange environment, but they soon get used to it and start to enjoy the training,” she says.

They also launched a mini program on WeChat that provides online services for families of children with speech disorders-parents can upload their child's information and recordings to the self-testing tool and get a report. As well as online speech therapy(治疗),there are also online courses for parents, including guidance for speech therapy at home.
